Researchers Disclose Critical Vulnerability in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Sep 22, 2022
Researchers have disclosed a new severe Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) vulnerability that could be exploited by users to access the virtual disks of other Oracle customers. "Each virtual disk in Oracle's cloud has a unique identifier called OCID," Shir Tamari, head of research at Wiz,  said  in a series of tweets. "This identifier is not considered secret, and organizations do not treat it as such." "Given the OCID of a victim's disk that is not currently attached to an active server or configured as shareable, an attacker could 'attach' to it and obtain read/write over it," Tamari added. The cloud security firm, which dubbed the tenant isolation vulnerability " AttachMe ," said Oracle  patched the issue  within 24 hours of responsible disclosure on June 9, 2022. Accessing a volume using the CLI without sufficient permissions At its core, the vulnerability is rooted in the fact that a disk could be attached to a compute ...

Why Application Security Should Be Considered An Enabler For Business

Why Application Security Should Be Considered An Enabler For Business

Jul 16, 2020
If you ask Alex, he won't admit being old-fashioned. He has been working in the IT industry for a while now and accepts that security is important for the business's health. But reluctant to take security as the business enabler. In today's environment, moving to digitization is a critical step required to drive innovation and business growth. When the application development takes the driver seat, security stalls the progress by saying NO to many things on the highway. — Is what he says. At that point, my friend Daniel got involved and argued that application security is no longer optional to our business as we rely on apps for our day-to-day activities. And, he added a powerful quote: "Because we've brakes in our cars, we can drive fast" - Robert Garigue Businesses will less likely advance if they don't have security (brakes) to do safely. The car's speed obtains improvement with brakes – the improvements to business are the improvement to th...
Researchers Uncover ECScape Flaw in Amazon ECS Enabling Cross-Task Credential Theft

Researchers Uncover ECScape Flaw in Amazon ECS Enabling Cross-Task Credential Theft

Aug 06, 2025 DevOps / Container Security
Cybersecurity researchers have demonstrated an "end-to-end privilege escalation chain" in Amazon Elastic Container Service ( ECS ) that could be exploited by an attacker to conduct lateral movement, access sensitive data, and seize control of the cloud environment. The attack technique has been codenamed ECScape by Sweet Security researcher Naor Haziz, who presented the findings today at the Black Hat USA security conference that's being held in Las Vegas. "We identified a way to abuse an undocumented ECS internal protocol to grab AWS credentials belonging to other ECS tasks on the same EC2 instance," Haziz said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "A malicious container with a low‑privileged IAM [Identity and Access Management] role can obtain the permissions of a higher‑privileged container running on the same host." Amazon ECS is a fully-managed container orchestration service that allows users to deploy, manage, and scale containerized ...

Today, every unpatched system, leaked password, and overlooked plugin is a doorway for attackers. Supply chains stretch deep into the code we trust, and malware hides not just in shady apps — but in job offers, hardware, and cloud services we rely on every day. Hackers don't need sophisticated exploits anymore. Sometimes, your credentials and a little social engineering are enough. This week, we trace how simple oversights turn into major breaches — and the silent threats most companies still underestimate. Let's dive in. ⚡ Threat of the Week UNC5221 Exploits New Ivanti Flaw to Drop Malware — The China-nexus cyber espionage group tracked as UNC5221 exploited a now-patched flaw in Ivanti Connect Secure, CVE-2025-22457 (CVSS score: 9.0), to deliver an in-memory dropper called TRAILBLAZE, a passive backdoor codenamed BRUSHFIRE, and the SPAWN malware suite. Protecting your IT infrastructure with Security Configuration Assessment (SCA)

Oct 03, 2023 Network Security / XDR / SIEM
Security Configuration Assessment (SCA)  is critical to an organization's cybersecurity strategy. SCA aims to discover vulnerabilities and misconfigurations that malicious actors exploit to gain unauthorized access to systems and data. Regular  security configuration assessments  are essential in maintaining a secure and compliant environment, as this minimizes the risk of cyber attacks. The assessment provides insight into your current security posture by performing configuration baseline checks on services and applications running on critical systems. How SCA works  SCA is performed by checking the configurations of your IT assets against known benchmarks such as the Center for Internet Security (CIS) benchmark and compliance standards such as NIST, GDPR, and HIPPA. Regulatory standards provide a global benchmark for best practices to help organizations enhance their IT hygiene and improve customer trust. The CIS benchmark provides a guideline for best practices...
