In search of the Twitter Hacker !

In search of the Twitter Hacker !

Mar 12, 2011
Labor woes. Steroids. Corrupt college programs. There are many serious issues facing the sports world. But they all are a distant second to one other. It's someone so skilled, so savvy, that you may not have even heard of him. The Twitter Hacker. Let's start at the beginning. Or what could be the beginning. The Twitter Hacker is so stealthy and subtle that there's no way to know when he began hacking into the accounts of our athletes. But one of the first cases that caught some attention came last May when the following appeared on the Twitter account of Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce after the Celtics took a 2-0 lead over the Magic in the Eastern Conference finals: "Anybody got a BROOM?" Ha! A confident athlete talking trash. Nothing remotely out of the ordinary there. But soon after, Pierce's digital media rep claimed that tweet did not come from Pierce, claiming the "BROOM" tweet was "courtesy of a hack." And that they were ...

Viral FaceApp Unnecessarily Requests Access to Users' Facebook Friends List

Jul 29, 2019
FaceApp—the AI-powered photo-morphing app that recently gone viral for its age filter but hit the headlines for its controversial privacy policy—has been found collecting the list of your Facebook friends for no reason. The Russian-made FaceApp has been around since the spring of 2017 but taken social media by storm over the course of the past few weeks as millions of people downloaded the app to see how they would look when they are older or younger, or swap genders. The app also contains a feature that allows users to download and edit photos from their Facebook accounts, which only works when a user enables FaceApp to access the social media account via the 'Login with Facebook' option. As you can see in the screenshot above, besides requesting for access to your basic profile information and photos, FaceApp also fetches the list of your Facebook friends "who also use and have shared their friends' lists with FaceApp." Have you yet asked yourself why...

Hacker Clones German Defense Minister's Fingerprint Using Just her Photos

Hackers have already bypassed Apple's fingerprint scanner using fake fingerprints, and now they have found a way to reproduce your fingerprints by using just a couple of photos of your fingers. Special Fingerprint sensors have already been used by Apple and Samsung in their smartphones for authentication purposes and in near future fingerprints sensors are believed to be the part of plenty of other locked devices that can be unlocked using fingerprints, just to add an extra layer of authentication. But, How secure are your fingerprints? A member of Europe's oldest hacker collective, the Chaos Computer Club (CCC) , claimed to have cloned a fingerprint of a Germany's federal minister of defense , Ursula von der Leyen , using pictures taken with a " standard photo camera " at a news conference. At the 31st annual Chaos Computer Conference in Hamburg Germany this weekend, biometrics researcher Starbug , whose real name is Jan Krissler , explained ...

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reportedly investigating a hacker ring that is targeting phones and computers of celebrities and stealing nude photos and other personal items. The probe stems from nude photos of Vanessa Hudgens that were recently leaked online, reports the New York Daily News.  According to TMZ.com, the federal investigators met Hudgens Wednesday to discuss her latest nude photo scandal and believe she might be the latest victim of a notorious hacker crew that has targeted scores of celebrities, including Scarlett Johansson, Ali Larter, Busy Philipps and Miley Cyrus. A source told the website that one ringleader had fingerprints on every job and the primary motivation appeared to be the thrill and challenge - not money. The new round of Hudgens' photos surfaced on the Internet Monday after similar full-frontal nudes appeared online in 2007 and 2009. Hudgens, 22, is seen kissing 'Zoey 101' actress Alexa Nikolas in one of the new photos. ...

Apr 23, 2011
Facebook hacker posts stolen pics on porn site ! A 26-year-old man faces 13 felony charges after being accused of hacking into Facebook accounts, stealing photos of young women and posting them on porn sites, reports the Kansas City Star. Along with content belonging to the 13 young women (ages 17 to 25), Timothy P. Noirjean is accused of victimizing, investigators found 92 folders on his computer containing names or photos of women, as well as 235 email addresses with security information. Noirjean confessed to accessing more than 100 Facebook accounts, and told police he was unaware that it's a crime. The shocking thing here isn't that there are predators on the Internet, that Noirjean claims ignorance of the law, that police arrested Noirjean in his parents' basement (which, according to the report, they totally did) or that young ladies of today have porn-worthy photos of themselves in unencrypted files on their computers. It's that Noirjean carried out his crime...

Researchers Uncover Brazilian Hacktivist's Identity Who Defaced Over 4800 Sites

May 28, 2020
It's one thing for hackers to target websites and proudly announce it on social media platforms for all to see. It's, however, an entirely different thing to leave a digital trail that leads cybersecurity researchers right to their doorsteps. That's exactly what happened in the case of a hacktivist under the name of VandaTheGod, who has been attributed to a series of attacks on government websites since July 2019. In a report shared with The Hacker News, researchers from Check Point said they were able to map VandaTheGod's activity over the years, and eventually zero down the attacker's real identity to a Brazilian individual from the city of Uberlândia. The cybersecurity firm said it notified concerned law enforcement of its findings for further action, adding the social media activities on profiles associated with VandaTheGod came to a halt towards the end of 2019. A Long Social Media Trail VandaTheGod has a long history of going after government we...
