And here's how it works: a pop-up message comes up saying you have a virus. And to fix the problem, all you have to do is install the software. "Frequently they'll ask you for a credit card for payment and promise that they will fix whatever's wrong with your computer. Clients who do that discover that they have a charge on their credit card, their credit card information is out there for the crook who invented the scareware and their computer is often even further infected and sometimes completely disabled," says Penny Lyons, Univision Computers Customer Service Representative. Jun 13, 2017
In this year's annual event, Apple announced that the company had paid out $70 Billion to developers in the App Store's lifetime and that $21 Billion of the amount was paid in the last year alone. But has all this money gone to the legitimate app developers? Probably not, as app developer Johnny Lin last week analyzed the Apple's App Store and discovered that most of the trending apps on the app store are completely fake and are earning their makers hundreds of thousands of dollars through in-app purchases and subscriptions. Scammers Use 'Search Ads' Platform to Boost App Ranking Shady developers are abusing Apple's relatively new and immature App Store Search Ads, which was launched at last year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), to promote their app in the store by using a few strategically chosen search ads and a bit of SEO. "They're taking advantage of the fact that there's no filtering or approval process for ads, and ...

Researchers at the insecurity outfit Websense found the exploits and put its report up on its security labs blog. "The BBC - 6 Music Web site has been injected with a malicious iframe, as have areas of the BBC 1Xtra radio station Web site," an anonymous Websense insecurity researcher wrote. Websense claims the injected iframe is at the bottom of the BBC 6 Music webpage and has been set up to automatically download some dodgy code from a .cc website. Apparently the hack is exactly the same on the BBC's 1Xtra website. "If an unprotected user browsed to the site they would be faced with drive-by downloads, meaning that simply browsing to the page is enough to get infected with a malicious executable," Websense continued. ...
