ThreatsDay Bulletin: AI Malware, Voice Bot Flaws, Crypto Laundering, IoT Attacks — and 20 More Stories

Nov 27, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
Hackers have been busy again this week. From fake voice calls and AI-powered malware to huge money-laundering busts and new scams, there's a lot happening in the cyber world. Criminals are getting creative — using smart tricks to steal data, sound real, and hide in plain sight. But they're not the only ones moving fast. Governments and security teams are fighting back, shutting down fake networks, banning risky projects, and tightening digital defenses. Here's a quick look at what's making waves this week — the biggest hacks, the new threats, and the wins worth knowing about. Mirai-based malware resurfaces with new IoT campaign ShadowV2 Botnet Continues to Target IoT Devices The threat actors behind the Mirai-based ShadowV2 botnet have been observed infecting IoT devices across industries and continents. The campaign is said to have been active only during the Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage in late October 2025. It's assessed ...

How Spies Could Unmask Tor Users without Cracking Encryption

Aug 01, 2015
T he O nion R outer (Tor) is weeping Badly! Yes, Tor browser is in danger of being caught once again by the people commonly known as " Spies ," who's one and only intention is to intrude into others' network and gather information. A team of security researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have developed digital attacks that can be used to unmask Tor hidden services in the Deep Web with a high degree of accuracy. The Tor network is being used by journalists, hackers, citizens living under repressive regimes as well as criminals to surf the Internet anonymously. A plethora of nodes and relays in Tor network is used to mask its users and make tracking very difficult. Any user when connects to Tor, the connection gets encrypted and routed through a path called a "circuit ." The request first reaches an entry node, also known as a ' Guard ' that knows the actual IP address of the user, and then goes through every ho...
Over 25% Of Tor Exit Relays Spied On Users' Dark Web Activities

Over 25% Of Tor Exit Relays Spied On Users' Dark Web Activities

May 10, 2021
An unknown threat actor managed to control more than 27% of the entire Tor network exit capacity in early February 2021, a new study on the dark web infrastructure revealed. "The entity attacking Tor users is actively exploiting tor users since over a year and expanded the scale of their attacks to a new record level," an independent security researcher who goes by the name nusenu  said  in a write-up published on Sunday. "The average exit fraction this entity controlled was above 14% throughout the past 12 months." It's the latest in a series of efforts undertaken to bring to light malicious Tor activity perpetrated by the actor since  December 2019 . The attacks, which are said to have begun in January 2020, were first  documented and exposed  by the same researcher in August 2020. Tor is open-source software for enabling anonymous communication on the Internet. It obfuscates the source and destination of a web request by directing network traffic through...

Tor-Based Dark Web Email Service Targeted by Government Spies

Tor-Based Dark Web Email Service Targeted by Government Spies

Apr 25, 2015
The administrator of the popular Darknet email service , SIGAINT , is warning its users that the email service has become a target of a suspected law enforcement agency who tried to compromise it. About a week ago, SIGAINT has been targeted by an attacker who tried to hack the service by using nearly 70 bad Tor exit nodes , one of the service's administrator informed its users via the tor-talk mailing list on Thursday. Before jumping on the news, Let's first understand what are Exit Nodes? As I said, SIGAINT uses TOR anonymization network which means when an email sent from one user to any destination, the email routed through multiple relays/nodes that actually aren't aware of the sender's identity. The last machine that processes the email known as a Tor exit relay or Tor exit node. The end user who receives that email can see the IP of the exit node instead of the IP address of the original sender. And this is how, SIGAINT allows you to send ...
Mozilla Deploying High-capacity Tor Middle Relays

Mozilla Deploying High-capacity Tor Middle Relays

Jan 29, 2015
Back in November, Mozilla teamed-up with Tor Project under a new initiative called Polaris , in order to help reduce finite number of Tor connections occurring at the same time by adding high-capacity Tor middle relays to the Tor network , and now the company is ready with its first Tor Middle relays. The Firefox maker has given the Tor network a high-capacity middle relays with the launch of 12 relays , all located in the United States, that will help distribute user traffic; the Tor browser is a great way to keep prying eyes from tracking you. Mozilla is one of the most trusted companies on the internet, particularly when it comes to user privacy. The partnership of Mozilla and Tor aimed at providing more privacy features to Firefox browser, and increased Tor network support. The Polaris Privacy Initiative was an effort of Mozilla, the Tor Project and the Center of Democracy and Technology — an advocacy group for digital rights, in order to help build more privacy ...
