Super Low RPO with Continuous Data Protection: Dial Back to Just Seconds Before an Attack Zerto , a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, can help you detect and recover from ransomware in near real-time. This solution leverages continuous data protection (CDP) to ensure all workloads have the lowest recovery point objective (RPO) possible. The most valuable thing about CDP is that it does not use snapshots, agents, or any other periodic data protection methodology. Zerto has no impact on production workloads and can achieve RPOs in the region of 5-15 seconds across thousands of virtual machines simultaneously. For example, the environment in the image below has nearly 1,000 VMs being protected with an average RPO of just six seconds! Application-Centric Protection: Group Your VMs to Gain Application-Level Control   You can protect your VMs with the Zerto application-centric approach using Virtual Protection Groups (VPGs). This logical grouping of VMs ensures that your whole applica

Besides Timehop , another data breach was discovered last week that affects users of one of the largest web hosting companies in Germany, DomainFactory, owned by GoDaddy. The breach initially happened back in last January this year and just emerged last Tuesday when an unknown attacker himself posted a breach note on the DomainFactory support forum. It turns out that the attacker breached company servers to obtain the data of one of its customers who apparently owes him a seven-figure amount, according to Heise . Later the attacker tried to report DomainFactory about the potential vulnerability using which he broke into its servers, but the hosting provider did not respond, and neither disclosed the breach to its customers. In that situation, the attacker head on to the company's support forum and broke the news with sample data of a few customers as proof, which forced DomainFactory to immediately shut down the forum website and initiate an investigation. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Education has restored its website, weeks after it was taken offline in the latest of a series of hacking attempts on some of the kingdom's most prominent sites. "The website was hacked a few weeks back, but has now been fully restored, and is safe and functional," Mohammed Al Dukhainy, a spokesman for the ministry, told Arab News. The official said that it was a matter of concern that cyber crimes were now becoming more common. The Ministry of Education has been targeted a number of times in the past year. The hackers, who have referred to themselves as the True Promise Organisation, posted a picture of Lebanon's Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Other official bodies to have suffered cyber attacks include the website of King Saud University and the Al Watan online news site. Earlier last year, the homepage of Riyad Bank, one of Saudi Arabia's largest financial institutions, was also hacked. However, the bank later said that none of its customer accounts ha

Top Cyber Attacks of 2020

With so much of the world transitioning to working, shopping, studying, and streaming online during the coronavirus pandemic, cybercriminals now have access to a larger base of potential victims than ever before. "Zoombomb"  became the new photobomb—hackers would gain access to a private meeting or online class hosted on Zoom and shout  profanities and racial slurs  or flash  pornographic images . Nation-state hacker groups mounted attacks against organizations involved in the coronavirus pandemic response, including the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some in an attempt to politicize the pandemic. Even garden-variety cyber attacks like email phishing, social engineering, and refund theft took on a darker flavor in response to the widespread economic precarity brought on by the pandemic.  "Hackers were mostly trying to take advantage of people's fear by offering medical equipment like thermometers and masks for cheap, low

Hackers Targeting Italian Corporate Banking Clients with New Web-Inject Toolkit DrIBAN

May 05, 2023
Italian corporate banking clients are the target of an ongoing financial fraud campaign that has been leveraging a new web-inject toolkit called  drIBAN  since at least 2019. "The main goal of drIBAN fraud operations is to infect Windows workstations inside corporate environments trying to alter legitimate banking transfers performed by the victims by changing the beneficiary and transferring money to an illegitimate bank account," Cleafy researchers Federico Valentini and Alessandro Strino  said . The bank accounts, per the Italian cybersecurity firm, are either controlled by the threat actors themselves or their affiliates, who are then tasked with laundering the stolen funds. The use of web injects is a time-tested tactic that makes it possible for malware to inject custom scripts on the client side by means of a man-in-the-browser ( MitB ) attack and intercept traffic to and from the server. The fraudulent transactions are often realized by means of a technique call

"I need to focus on taking care of my family and rebuilding my reputation," Barr told Threatpost. "It's been a challenge to do that and run a company. And, given that I've been the focus of much of bad press, I hope that, by leaving, HBGary and HBGary Federal can get away from some of that. I'm confident they'll be able to weather this storm." The Australian and New Zealand shopping site of cosmetics retailer Lush has been hacked just weeks after a similar breach occurred on the UK site.  Credit card details and other intimate information of shoppers have been exposed. If you visit the Lush Cosmetics Australian  website  you will find a single banner page announcing that the site has suffered a "Privacy Breach."  This is contained as a single JPG image with no other links on the page.  In fact if you use your favourite search engine to find sub-pages, they all return a 404 error.  It would appear that the entire site has been removed from the server and the single banner page put in its place. In part, the site statement says: We are sorry to have to announce that the Lush Australian and New Zealand websites have been hacked.  We have been alerted today to advise us that entry has been gained and customer personal data may have been obtained by the hackers.
