Arab Countries websites urged to Increase Security Against Israeli Hackers Recent hacking attacks online have gotten the attention of the world's media outlets in a big way. What has been reported as beginning as a youth led hacker attack against an Israeli website quickly escalated when six Israeli hackers decided to strike back. The initial attack was against a sports themed web site based in Israel and exposed the credit card and personal information of a number of nationals in that country.  The response, exposed the credit card and personal details of more than 50,000 people in Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia. While this current episode is rather tame in comparison to the Stuxnet virus which hit Iran in June of 2010, which ended up destroying several centrifuges inside an Iranian nuclear facility. Feb 13, 2018
A zero-day vulnerability has been discovered in the desktop version for end-to-end encrypted Telegram messaging app that was being exploited in the wild in order to spread malware that mines cryptocurrencies such as Monero and ZCash. The Telegram vulnerability was uncovered by security researcher Alexey Firsh from Kaspersky Lab last October and affects only the Windows client of Telegram messaging software. The flaw has actively been exploited in the wild since at least March 2017 by attackers who tricked victims into downloading malicious software onto their PCs that used their CPU power to mine cryptocurrencies or serve as a backdoor for attackers to remotely control the affected machine, according to a blogpost on Securelist. Iranian Hackers Likely Behind Disruptive Cyberattacks Against Albanian Government

Aug 05, 2022
A threat actor working to further Iranian goals is said to have been behind a set of damaging cyberattacks against Albanian government services in mid-July 2022. Cybersecurity firm Mandiant  said  the malicious activity against a NATO state represented a "geographic expansion of Iranian disruptive cyber operations." The  July 17 attacks , according to Albania's National Agency of Information Society, forced the government to "temporarily close access to online public services and other government websites" because of a "synchronized and sophisticated cybercriminal attack from outside Albania." The politically motivated disruptive operation, per Mandiant, entailed the deployment of a new ransomware family called ROADSWEEP that included a ransom note with the text: "Why should our taxes be spent on the benefit of DURRES terrorists?" A front named HomeLand Justice has since claimed responsibility for the cyber offensive, with the group als...
