How easy it is to hack AMC's sites !

Feb 20, 2011
An 'ethical' hacker demonstrates how one can break into the civic corporation's e-governance site and I P Gautam's official domain to access confidential info. The state government's websites are under threat of being hacked. A BCA student, who calls himself an 'ethical' hacker, demonstrated how it was possible to hack into the e-governance site of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and civic chief I P Gautam's official domain.  Falgun Rathod showed on his home PC how these websites are vulnerable to misuse, poking the bubble of the state government that prides itself in winning three National e-Governance Awards recently.  Rathod also demonstrated how one can access the balance sheet of all nagarpalikas in the state that use the double entry accounting system. He pointed out that one can easily update any file on the website or change the face of the websites by using defacer websites.  While checking the AMC website, the 20-year-old student came across the 'Administ...
HTC HD Mini Gets Hacked, Now Runs Android !

HTC HD Mini Gets Hacked, Now Runs Android !

Feb 19, 2011
The HTC HD Mini, also previously known as Photon, is pretty old as far as smartphones go--the Windows Mobile 6.5 phone was first released back in February 2010. So a XDA Developer member has given the cellphone a new lease of life by bringing Android and Linux OS to it. Forum member "Cotulla" managed to get the HD Mini running Android via the Haret Launcher, a file used commonly to boot Android on Windows Mobile phones. The ROM for the hack was created from similar HTC handset HTC Aria, which can be booted from a SD card. Add the files (Cotulla made a developer file and a user file, so pick your camp), launch Haret, and Android for HD Mini is yours! Sadly, the Linux OS is far from complete. Although the hack is up and running, it's not without it's problems. The battery driver doesn't work, and neither does the GSensor or WLAN. Some of the touchscreen buttons are also not perfectly aligned, so need a bit of work. Unfortunately, Cotulla is no longer working on...

BaitTrap: Over 17,000 Fake News Websites Caught Fueling Investment Fraud Globally

Jul 08, 2025Financial Scams / Online Security
A newly released report by cybersecurity firm CTM360 reveals a large-scale scam operation utilizing fake news websites—known as Baiting News Sites (BNS)—to deceive users into online investment fraud across 50 countries. These BNS pages are made to look like real news outlets: CNN, BBC, CNBC, or regional media. They publish fake stories that feature public figures, central banks, or financial brands, all claiming to back new ways to earn passive income. The goal? Build trust quickly and steer readers toward professional-looking scam platforms like Trap10, Solara Vynex, or Eclipse Earn. Scammers use sponsored ads on Google, Meta, and blog networks to push traffic to these sites. Ads often carry clickbait headlines—"You won't believe what a prominent public figure just revealed"—paired with official photos or national flags to make them feel legit. Clicking the ad directs users to a fake article, which then redirects them to a fraudulent trading platform. Many of these scams follow a...

Online security losing cyber battle !

Online security losing cyber battle !

Feb 19, 2011
THE internet was never meant to do sensitive banking transactions, cyber criminals are winning the war against online security and Australia's easy going nature is making us vulnerable targets to ever-more sophisticated internet thugs. That was San Francisco-based internet security watcher and author Joseph Menn's assessment of the current state of the internet before he spoke to the Internet Industry Association's gala dinner in Sydney last night. The only glimmer of hope was that people were becoming more aware of the risks involved with the internet - which he described as a "loaded gun" - but we have to be even more savvy if we are not to be become a cyber crime victim. Mr Menn said when he interviewed the former head of the US Department of Justice's Cyber Crime Unit she said half of all credit cards were in the hands of criminals. "And if your credit card details weren't in criminals' hands it was only because they hadn't got around to...

Yemen, Bahrain, Iran could be next Egypt ,Anonymous Stand With Justice & Truth !

Feb 18, 2011
U.S. officials, while declining to point to a single country that could follow Tunisia and Egypt into regime change, say they believe there are three countries whose protests could, under some circumstances, reach that same level of intensity. The officials cited Yemen, Bahrain and Iran (not necessarily in that order) as being in a separate category from the rest of the Middle East nations. There may be protests and demonstrations in the other countries, but the protests are less widespread or more likely to be put down by brutal state security forces, U.S. officials said. Here's a country-by-country assessment drawn from the accounts of U.S. officials: Yemen: plenty of kindling Yemen has been facing daily protests, and the nation is fraught with all sorts of issues: deep poverty and unemployment, a strong belief that the society is inherently corrupt, an active al-Qaida presence, and an unpopular ruler, who's been in power almost as long as Presidents Ben Ali and Mubarak in...

Anonymous Hackers Help Iranian Activists Fight The Regime !

Feb 18, 2011
The inscrutable "voice" of international Internet collective Anonymous, a shadowy organization that has carried out a number of attacks on websites worldwide. In recent days, with Iranians taking to the streets to protest the government, the country's Islamic authorities have boosted their censorship efforts in a bid to crush opposition activity online. Before and during the largest demonstrations seen in Iran since the unrest that followed President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's disputed reelection in June 2009, the authorities have tried to tamp down opposition activity by blocking opposition websites and other media, as well as disrupting mobile phone connections. This is where Anonymous and its "Operation: Iran" come in. The collective is providing users with special advice forums and tools to fight the Iranian government's censorship. The group has also encouraged Iranian users to use distributed denial of service attacks (DDOS) in order to take dow...

The desire of remote free experience urged Harishankar Narayan a mechanical Engineer to hack into the Microsoft Kinect Xbox and control Tata Sky through Kinetic Movements. In a You Tube video which he has uploaded the man is seen controlling the Tata Sky with the movements of his hands. The mechanical Engineer said that he wanted a remote free experience which led him to fiddle with the remote of Microsoft's Kinect Xbox and by trying and retrying he finally hacked into it to recreate his own codes. He says that he wants every appliance in his home to work according to his gestures. The man built the whole system with keeping in mind the minute details possible like hew had a device called USB UIRP which he connected to his MacMini. The USB acted as a detector of infrared signal and also was a universal remote for all the gadgets. The USB detected the infrared signals for the Tata Sky remote and then from there he set gestures or movemnts to control the Tata Sky. The hack sta...
Chinese hackers targeted House of Commons !

Chinese hackers targeted House of Commons !

Feb 18, 2011
Chinese hackers not only attacked key federal departments: they also cracked into the computer system of the House of Commons, targeting MPs with large ethnic Chinese constituencies, CTV News has learned. Sources say Canada's secret cyber spy agency -- the Communications Security Establishment -- tracked the hacking operation to the Chinese embassy in Ottawa and to computer servers in Beijing. Toronto MP Derek Lee said Canada needs to show it's capable of fighting back. "It's unacceptable and I think we should hold out some threat -- a counter-strike threat," he said. But Canada might be falling behind when it comes to defending -- and retaliating -- against such attacks. Britain spends $1 billion on cyber security and the United States $55 billion, while Canada has a budget of $90 million. Meanwhile, security experts say the Chinese hackers who have targeted Canadian government computers are just the latest in a wave of cyberspace spies, and Ottawa needs to bols...

Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has been asked by The Intelligence Bureau (IB0) to stop the messaging services of Nokia in India until they can be monitored. Once again security concerns have clouded Intelligence department's mind and the incident is not first of its kind. Earlier too similar concerns have cropped up and warnings being sent against Skype, Google's Gmail and BlackBerry. The Intelligence Bureau has communicated to DoT saying that Nokia's push email services for customers and corporate should be discontinued until the Finnish company gives them monitoring access. Intelligence Bureau (IB) has written a letter to telecom department in which it has raised concerns over security and has asked to make monitoring arrangements.
