Suspected Hacker arrested for World's Biggest DDoS attack against Spamhaus

The Dutch police have confirmed the arrest of a 35-year-old man suspected of taking part in a massive DDoS attack against the anti-spam group Spamhaus back in March . The attack's bandwidth peaked at over 300Gbps, making it the largest DDoS attack in history. Their target, Spamhaus, is a company which creates blacklists of spam sites and sells them to Internet Service Providers. Spamhaus was attacked with DDOS and the website overcrowded with traffic and went offline. Later CloudFlare was hired by Spamhaus to protect against such attacks. The suspect was arrested by Spanish authorities in Barcelona based on a European arrest warrant and is expected to be transferred to the Netherlands soon. The man arrested is believed to be Sven Kamphuis, the owner and manager of Dutch hosting firm Cyberbunker that has been implicated in the attack. This DDoS attack was believed to have been sparked when Spamhaus placed CyberBunker on its spam blacklist. A self-proclaimed leader of hacking group Lulzsec has been arrested in Sydney, know by online name " Aush0k ". Australian Federal Police confirmed they arrested the unnamed 24-year-old man from Point Clare yesterday.  The police allege that the man compromised and defaced a government website, triggering an investigation that led to his arrest. The man is reportedly a senior member of staff at a prominent Sydney IT firm, and used his position of trust within the company to get access to sensitive information. His knowledge and skills presented " a significant risk to the clients of the company for which he was employed had he continued his illegal online activities ," police said. He faces a maximum of 12 years in jail. Tor is a web service that allows users to surf the Internet, use IM, and other services while keeping themselves completely anonymous, but  Japan's National Police Agency wants ISPs to block access to Tor if users are found to have abused it. The push by Japanese authorities is because they're worried about an inability to tackle cyber crime enabled in part by anonymizing services such as Tor.  Japanese police is having a hard time when it comes to crimes in the cyberspace. Just last year a hacker, going by the name Demon Killer, took remote control of systems across the country and posted death threats on public message boards. The mother of alleged Anonymous hacktivist Barrett Brown has pleaded guilty to helping her son hide two laptop computers from federal investigators. Brown's mother, Karen McCutchin , pleaded guilty last week to a charge of obstructing the execution of a search warrant. She faces a maximum sentence of 12 months in prison and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. On March 6, 2012, officers with the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Brown's Dallas, Texas apartment in an attempt to execute a search warrant for computers that could contain information involving hacktivist group Anonymous and LulzSec. The feds hadn't found all the computers they were looking for during a search of Brown's apartment that morning and Brown, located at his mother's house, refused to volunteer them. The hacktivist group Anonymous says it's planning to block all live streams of President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night, in an operation entitled " Operation SOTU ". " We reject the State of the Union. We reject the authority of the President to sign arbitrary orders and bring irresponsible and damaging controls to the Internet, " the statement reads. " The President of the United States of America, and the Joint Session of Congress will face an Army tonight. " Anonymous group is upset with a pending Internet security bill. Two high school football players in Steubenville, Ohio are under arrest for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. Newly leaked video sheds more light on what may have happened to a girl who told police she was raped by these high school football players in August. Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond- have been arrested and charged with raping a fellow 16-year-old, taking her to a number of parties when she was too drunk to resist, digitally penetrating her and possibly even urinating on her.  A small group of information activists was able to do what 3 Ohio state law enforcement agencies couldn't. Israel's Prime Minister officially opened a new national program to train teenagers in the art of cyberwarfare. The program named "Magshimim Le'umit", is to prepare them for their future role in the military and intelligence community. Israel Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said the country's computer systems are facing attacks from Iran and other countries, and such attacks are set to increase in the digital age. The new program will accept outstanding pupils aged between 16 and 18 and train them to intercept malicious attacks through a three-year course. Cyber security has become a national priority in Israel, with significant resources being invested in protecting the military and civilian computing networks. Anonymous Croatia hacking crew yesterday deface two Croatian Banks websites and add Anonymous Logo on home pages. The hackers left a message saying: " We are Anonymous. We don't forgive. This Morning Anonymous member with twitter handle @OsamaTheGod leaked a huge database from server of Israeli Musical Act Magazine (act.co.il). The leaked database posted on public note website and includes users ID, username, password in clear text, IP address and phone numbers. Hacker posted data of about 10000 users from the site. Reason of hack yet not mentioned anywhere, but because hacker use #OpIsrael hash in his tweets, so this could be an attack against Israel in fight of Anonymous vs Israel. The Homepage of BSNL ( Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ) https://www.bsnl.co.in/ was hacked today morning by hacking group Anonymous.  BSNL is an Indian state-owned telecommunications company, the largest provider of fixed telephony and fourth largest mobile telephony provider in India, and is also a provider of broadband services. Anonymous hackers once again hit Egyptian Government Websites and taken down. Hackers react under operation named #OpEgypt and hit 30 websites with DDos attack. Hacktivist using the handle @AnonymousGrupo claimed the responsibility of attack. Attacked websites include, The Egyptian Presidency website, The Egyptian Cabinet, Trade Agreements Sector (TAS), Maritime Transport site, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, parliament website, Income Tax and many more. At the time of writing, many sites has been restored, but a few like https://www.presidency.gov.eg/ is still under maintenance. A group of Internet hackers appeared in an Ankara court on Monday on charges of terrorism, the first time alleged cyber criminals have been put on trial in Turkey. Those arrested in suspicion of the attacks are mostly students who deny having the technical skills required to carry out such a hack. RedHack has denied the allegations, saying 10 people currently being tried have no ties with the group and that the allegations of terrorism are simply part of the government's policy against all of its opponents in the country. The defendants, who deny the charges, risk prison sentences ranging from eight to 24 years if convicted. Redhack claims to be affiliated with the international hackers' group Anonymous group, and has carried out several online attacks against state and private domains since 1997. Hacker group Anonymous claims he took down North-side Independent School District's website (www.NISD.net) on Saturday to protest the district's use of tracking badges. On Sunday, Nov. 25, the same hacktivist released a statement via Pastebin giving the school district "1-3 days" to meet with parents and explain the student tracking program in detail. If the district fails to comply with the request, hacktivist promise to "simply shut down" the school district website once again. The hacker group also sent a Twitter message to the NISD account on Thursday, teasingly notifying them that their site was down. " They're tracking students! They have rights too. Internet hacktivist group Anonymous has declared cyberwar on Israel, posting personal data of five thousand Israeli officials online. " It has come to our attention that the Israeli government has ignored repeated warnings about the abuse of human rights, shutting down the internet in Israel and mistreating its own citizens and those of its neighboring countries ," the hackers wrote in a statement. The document contains names, email addresses and ID numbers apparently belonging to Israeli officials. The group also said " Israeli Gov. this is/will turn into a cyberwar. " Earlier, the group hacked over 700 hundred Israeli websites, including the Bank of Jerusalem, the Israeli Defence Ministry, the IDF blog, the President's official website and many others. The Israel's finance minister has acknowledged the recent wave of attacks, saying the government is now waging a war on a "second front."
