Wikileaks Publishes 30,000 Searchable Documents from the Sony Hack

Apr 17, 2015
Remember the largest hack on Sony Pictures Entertainment late last year? Well, nobody can forget it. But let me remind you once again: Sony Picture Entertainment hack was one of the most devastating hacks in the history that leaked several hundred gigabytes of sensitive data, including high-quality versions of five unreleased movies , celebrity phone numbers and their travel aliases, private information of its employees, upcoming film scripts, film budgets and many more. Now, these large troves of hacked Sony data have been republished by Wikileaks. THE SONY ARCHIVES WikiLeaks on Thursday released " The Sony Archives ," a fully searchable online database containing more than 30,000 documents and 173,132 emails that, it claims, were stolen from last year's Sony Pictures hack , proving a devastating and embarrassing security failure for the studio. It is like, Whistleblower Julian Assange has hit the nerve: The massive hack has already cost the e

Sony Xperia Devices Secretly Sending User Data to Servers in China

Oct 29, 2014
If you own a Sony smartphone either the Android 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 KitKat firmware then inadvertently you may be transmitting your data back to the servers in China, even if you haven't installed any application. Quite surprising but it's true. I know many of you haven't expected such practices from a Japanese company, but reports popping up at several forums suggest that some new Sony Xperia handsets seem to contain the Baidu spyware . MYSTERIOUS BAIDU SPYWARE About a month ago, a group of community users of Sony smartphone detected the presence of a strange folder, named " Baidu ", mysteriously appeared from among those present in various versions of Android for these handsets. The creepy part is that the folder is created automatically without the owners permission and there is no way of deleting it. Even if someone tries to remove it, it instantly reappears as well as unticking the folder from device administrator equally seems to do nothing, neither does starting t

Super Low RPO with Continuous Data Protection: Dial Back to Just Seconds Before an Attack Zerto , a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, can help you detect and recover from ransomware in near real-time. This solution leverages continuous data protection (CDP) to ensure all workloads have the lowest recovery point objective (RPO) possible. The most valuable thing about CDP is that it does not use snapshots, agents, or any other periodic data protection methodology. Zerto has no impact on production workloads and can achieve RPOs in the region of 5-15 seconds across thousands of virtual machines simultaneously. For example, the environment in the image below has nearly 1,000 VMs being protected with an average RPO of just six seconds! Application-Centric Protection: Group Your VMs to Gain Application-Level Control   You can protect your VMs with the Zerto application-centric approach using Virtual Protection Groups (VPGs). This logical grouping of VMs ensures that your whole applica
Sony PlayStation Network Taken Down By DDoS Attack

Sony PlayStation Network Taken Down By DDoS Attack

Aug 25, 2014
It's been a bad weekend for Sony Playstation. The entire PlayStation Network was down much of the day after a dedicated distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack by online attackers, which left the network inaccessible to users. It's possible that EVE Online and Guild Wars 2 have also been hit by the attackers. Developers on the EVE Online forums have announced DDoS issues, and many users on the Guild Wars 2 forums have been reporting login issues. Sony's PlayStation Network is an online service that connects PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 video game consoles to the Internet and to over-the-top video services such as Netflix. What's weird about this attack is that it also includes a security threat against the American Airlines plane in which the President of Sony Online Entertainment, John Smedley, was traveling today. The aircraft along with a full load of passengers was diverted to Phoenix due to a bomb threat. WHO BRING DOWN SONY PLAYSTATION NETWORK? Tw

US Congress wants answers from Sony on PlayStation hack !

Apr 30, 2011
US Congress wants answers from Sony on PlayStation hack ! A U.S. congressional committee has asked Sony Computer Entertainment to explain several issues surrounding the massive potential leak of information on customers of its PlayStation Network. The network, which serves as an e-commerce and online gaming platform for the PlayStation 3, has been offline for more than a week after Sony discovered an intruder broke through its cyberdefenses and into the network. The service remains unavailable and Sony has warned its 77 million subscribers that their personal information may have been leaked, including, potentially, credit card numbers. A subcommittee of the House of Representatives' Committee on Energy and Commerce sent a letter to Sony on Friday that seeks answers to many of the same questions that Sony's users have about the attack and the company's response. Chief among those is Sony's apparent slowness in taking the network offline and informing customers.

Sony PlayStation Network hacked again, user passwords compromised ! With Sony's PlayStation Network freshly back online, attackers have once again breached the system, this time going for a vulnerability with the system's password reset. This is getting (more) ridiculous. Not even two days after Sony restored its embattled PlayStation Network for most users worldwide, cyber criminals have once again launched an attack, this time going after the PSN's password reset system. In order for users to reconnect to the PSN, they were required to reset their passwords. You know, for security reasons… News of this third, most recent attack were originally reported on Nyleveia.com, which warned PSN users that "accounts are still not safe." "I want to make this clear to ALL PSN users. Despite the methods currently employed to force a password change when you first reconnect to the PlayStation network, your accounts still remain unsafe," writes Nyleveia.
