Good news for Open Source Lovers! Facebook has open-sourced Hack Codegen – its library for automatically generating Hack code, allowing outside developers to automate some of their routine work while developing large programs. HACK is the Facebook's own programming language designed to build complex web sites and other software quickly and without many flaws. HACK programming language is developed for HipHop Virtual Machine (HHVM) – an open-source virtual machine designed to execute programs written in Hack and PHP. The top 20 open source frameworks on Github run on HHVM. Ninth Grade Students Hack into ATM Machine during School Lunch Break

Ninth Grade Students Hack into ATM Machine during School Lunch Break

Jun 12, 2014
When I was in school, I used to play outdoor games like basketball and badminton. When I was in college, I started taking more interest in playing computer games rather going out. But nowadays, children have completely changed their hobbies to programming, hacking, bug bounties in such a ways that just in half an hour of lunch break between classes they hacked ATM machine . A pair of ninth grade students, Caleb Turon and Matthew Hewlett , both 14 year old broke into a Bank of Montreal ATM during their lunch hours between classes by following an old ATM operators manual found online. The duo used the online manual to access the operator mode of the ATM machine in Winnipeg. They didn't use the accessed data to steal any amount from the ATM, rather they simply broke into the ATM machine and printed off information including users' transaction data, surcharge profits and the total cash held in the unit. HOW THEY HACKED INTO ATM MACHINE? Turon and Hewlett were not expectin...

Researchers Find New Hack to Read Content Of Password Protected PDF Files

Researchers Find New Hack to Read Content Of Password Protected PDF Files

Oct 01, 2019
Looking for ways to unlock and read the content of an encrypted PDF without knowing the password? Well, that's now possible, sort of—thanks to a novel set of attacking techniques that could allow attackers to access the entire content of a password-protected or encrypted PDF file, but under some specific circumstances. Dubbed PDFex , the new set of techniques includes two classes of attacks that take advantage of security weaknesses in the standard encryption protection built into the Portable Document Format, better known as PDF. To be noted, the PDFex attacks don't allow an attacker to know or remove the password for an encrypted PDF; instead, enable attackers to remotely exfiltrate content once a legitimate user opens that document. In other words, PDFex allows attackers to modify a protected PDF document, without having the corresponding password, in a way that when opened by someone with the right password, the file will automatically send out a copy of the decry...

Cybrary Offers Free Online Ethical Hacking and Cyber Security Training

Apr 15, 2015
I frequently receive emails and messages on how to hack my friend's Facebook account , how to become a hacker, how to penetrate networks , how to break into computers, and how to compromise routers? These are some of the most frequent queries I came across, and in this article I'll attempt to answer these along with a solution on how to get started as a beginner. Before we begin, first let's know… ...What is Ethical Hacking? Most people want to learn hacking just for fun to hack into their friend's Facebook account or Gmail. Remember, Hacking is a skill and if you are here for the same reason, sadly but this platform may not work for you. Ethical hacking is testing the IT resources for a good cause and the betterment of technology. Ethical hackers are none other than computer security experts and researchers who focus on penetration testing and weaknesses in the organization's information systems they associated. A way to become an ethical hacker is to get C...
Social Engineering — Free Online Training for Hackers

Social Engineering — Free Online Training for Hackers

Oct 21, 2015
For most of us Hacking is Technological in Nature. But, we usually forget the most important element of hacking that makes a successful hack from 10% to over 90%... ... The Human Element . And here the Social Engineering comes in. Social Engineering deals with non-technical kind of intrusion and manipulation that relies heavily on human interaction rather than technology. Social Engineering is popular because the human element is frequently the weakest part of a system and most prone to mistakes. Most businesses and organizations spend a ton of money on the latest shiny technology that promises to fix their security issues while humans are giving hackers the easiest way to get in. Impact of Social Engineering  Social Engineering has been the primary cause of a number of the most high profile cyber-attacks in recent years. The impact of it on an organisation could result in economic loss, loss of Privacy, temporary or permanent Closure, loss of good...
HackAdemy – Free eLearning Platform

HackAdemy – Free eLearning Platform

Oct 02, 2012
I talked with Marius Corici Co-founder and CEO for Hack a Server project about Hackademy – eLearning Platform . What is HackAdemy? It is a free, eLearning platform specializing in InfoSec courses. HackAdemy is a place where people can learn and teach eachother about online security using principles of Open Knowledge . On HackAdemy all courses will respect three criteria: Free of charge, Free to distribute and Hands on only . Security can be learned Hands on only. Why did we do this? There are two major reasons that made me do this: Searching the internet I realized that there is no such product; a free eLearning platform focused on security industry. That struck me, and from there it wasn't hard to think of and implement an eLearning platform dedicated to InfoSec industry free to everybody. Second, The Internet grows faster than the World's capacity to provide well trained system administrators as well as well-trained coders/programmers regarding securit...

A former University of Georgia (UGA) student under investigation for allegedly hacking into the school's computerized personnel records system committed suicide last month. Stell attended classes at UGA between 2005 and 2007. The Data breach was carried out around two months back near 15th October and that may have led to compromised Full names and Social Security numbers, along with additional sensitive data of 8,500 current and former school employees. According to reports , an investigation into the security breach was ongoing when the suspect, Charles Staples Stell , 26, was found dead at his home in Athens on Nov. 7. The UGA Police Department's computer forensics team was investigating the hack. They said, There is no evidence that the compromised data were used to commit additional crimes. Squirrel Engine Bug Could Let Attackers Hack Games and Cloud Services

Oct 19, 2021
Researchers have disclosed an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Squirrel programming language that can be abused by attackers to break out of the sandbox restrictions and execute arbitrary code within a SquirrelVM, thus giving a malicious actor complete access to the underlying machine.  Tracked as CVE-2021-41556 , the issue occurs when a game library referred to as Squirrel Engine is used to execute untrusted code and affects stable release branches 3.x and 2.x of Squirrel. The vulnerability was responsibly disclosed on August 10, 2021. Squirrel is an open-source, object-oriented programming language that's used for scripting video games and as well as in IoT devices and distributed transaction processing platforms such as Enduro/X. "In a real-world scenario, an attacker could embed a malicious Squirrel script into a community map and distribute it via the trusted Steam Workshop," researchers Simon Scannell and Niklas Breitfeld said in a report shared with ...

5 Popular Web Hosting Services Found Vulnerable to Multiple Flaws

Jan 16, 2019
A security researcher has discovered multiple one-click client-side vulnerabilities in the some of the world's most popular and widely-used web hosting companies that could have put millions of their customers as well as billions of their sites' visitors at risk of hacking. Independent researcher and bug-hunter Paulos Yibelo, who shared his new research with The Hacker News, discovered roughly a dozen serious security vulnerabilities in Bluehost, Dreamhost, HostGator, OVH, and iPage, which amounts to roughly seven million domains. Some of the vulnerabilities are so simple to execute as they require attackers to trick victims into clicking on a simple link or visiting a malicious website to easily take over the accounts of anyone using the affected web hosting providers. Critical Flaws Reported in Popular Web Hosting Services Yibelo tested all the below-listed vulnerabilities on all five web hosting platforms and found several account takeover, cross-scripting, and in...
