When it comes to safeguarding your Internet security, installing an antivirus software or running a Secure Linux OS on your system does not mean you are safe enough from all kinds of cyber-threats. Today majority of Internet users are vulnerable to cyber attacks, not because they aren't using any best antivirus software or other security measures, but because they are using weak passwords to secure their online accounts. Passwords are your last lines of defense against online threats. Just look back to some recent data breaches and cyber attacks, including high-profile data breach at OPM ( United States Office of Personnel Management ) and the extra-marital affair site Ashley Madison , that led to the exposure of hundreds of millions of records online. Master Password Protection added to Google Chrome's Password Manager

Dec 05, 2013
Just like other Web Browsers, The Google Chrome also offers a password manager feature that can save your logins and basic information for automatic form-filling. The Google Chrome browser stores all your passwords in the plain text format and is available for access by opening the following URL in your Chrome browser – " chrome : //settings/passwords ". Unlike Firefox , till now Google Chrome was not offering any Master Protection. Finally Google has implemented a Master Password protection on Chrome password manager in Windows and Mac. Google Improves Its Password Manager to Boost Security Across All Platforms

Jul 01, 2022
Google on Thursday announced a slew of improvements to its  password manager  service aimed at creating a more consistent look and feel across different platforms. Central to the changes is a "simplified and unified management experience that's the same in Chrome and Android settings," Ali Sarraf, Google Chrome product manager,  said  in a blog post. The updates are also expected to automatically group multiple passwords for the same sites as well as introduce an option to manually add passwords. Although Google appears to be not ready yet to make Password Manager as a standalone app, users on Android can now add a shortcut to it on the homescreen. In a related change on iOS, should users opt for Chrome as the  default autofill provider , Password Manager now comes with the ability to generate unique, strong passwords. The built-in Password Checkup feature on Android is receiving an upgrade of its own too. Beyond checking for hacked credentials, it can f...

Hacker Finds a Simple Way to Bypass Google Password Alert

Hacker Finds a Simple Way to Bypass Google Password Alert

May 02, 2015
Less than 24 hours after Google launched the new Phishing alert extension Password Alert , a security researcher was able to bypass the feature using deadly simple exploits. On Wednesday, the search engine giant launched a new Password Alert Chrome extension to alert its users whenever they accidentally enter their Google password on a carefully crafted phishing website that aimed at hijacking users' account. However, security expert Paul Moore easily circumvented the technology using just seven lines of simple JavaScript code that kills phishing alerts as soon as they started to appear, defeating Google's new Password Alert extension. Google shortly fixed the issue and released a new update to Password Alert extension that blocked the Moore's exploit. However, Moore discovered another way to block the new version of Password Alert, as well. The first proof of concept exploit by Moore relied on a JavaScript that looks for instances of warning screen every five mil...

Google Chrome's Built-in Manager Lets Users Update Breached Passwords with One Click

May 21, 2025 Data Breach / Account Security
Google has announced a new feature in its Chrome browser that lets its built-in Password Manager automatically change a user's password when it detects the credentials to be compromised. "When Chrome detects a compromised password during sign in, Google Password Manager prompts the user with an option to fix it automatically," Google's Ashima Arora, Chirag Desai, and Eiji Kitamura said . "On supported websites, Chrome can generate a strong replacement and update the password for the user automatically." The feature builds upon Password Manager 's existing capabilities to generate strong passwords during sign-up and flag credentials that have been detected in a data breach. Google told The Hacker News the feature hasn't been formally launched for end users, and that it's mainly geared towards developers so they can optimize their websites for once the feature launches. With the automated password change, Google said the idea is to reduce fric...
Passwd: A walkthrough of the Google Workspace Password Manager

Passwd: A walkthrough of the Google Workspace Password Manager

Dec 23, 2025 Password Security / Enterprise Software
Passwd is designed specifically for organizations operating within Google Workspace. Rather than competing as a general consumer password manager, its purpose is narrow, and business-focused: secure credential storage, controlled sharing, and seamless Workspace integration. The platform emphasizes practicality over feature overload, aiming to provide a reliable system for teams that already rely on Google's tools.  Security as the starting point Encryption and data protection are the basic building blocks of Passwd. Every credential, file, or sensitive asset gets encrypted with AES-256, an extremely secure encryption standard that is widely recognized. Encryption happens before storage, keeping data protected throughout its lifecycle.  Passwd is based on a zero-knowledge architecture; only the users, not Passwd, are able to access decrypted data. It does not have any visibility of the stored passwords or secrets. The structure reflects an enterprise mindset: Centralize...
Chrome Users Can Now Sync Passkeys Across Devices with New Google PIN Feature

Chrome Users Can Now Sync Passkeys Across Devices with New Google PIN Feature

Sep 20, 2024 Encryption / Digital Security
Google on Thursday unveiled a Password Manager PIN to let Chrome web users sync their passkeys across Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android devices. "This PIN adds an additional layer of security to ensure your passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and can't be accessed by anyone, not even Google," Chrome product manager Chirag Desai said . The PIN is a six-digit code by default, although it's also possible to create a longer alpha-numeric PIN by selecting "PIN options." This marks a change from the previous status quo where users could only save passkeys to save passkeys to Google Password Manager on Android. While the passkeys could be used on other platforms, it was necessary to scan a QR code using the device where they were generated. The latest change removes that step, making it a lot easier for users to sign in to online services using passkeys by simply scanning their biometrics. Google noted that support for iOS is expected to arrive soon...

Android's New Identity Check Feature Locks Device Settings Outside Trusted Locations

Jan 24, 2025 Biometric / Mobile Security
Google has launched a new feature called Identity Check for supported Android devices that locks sensitive settings behind biometric authentication when outside of trusted locations. In doing so, biometric authentication will be required for the following actions - Access saved passwords and passkeys with Google Password Manager Autofill passwords in apps from Google Password Manager, except in Chrome Change screen lock, like PIN, pattern, and password Change biometrics, like Fingerprint or Face Unlock Run a factory reset Turn off Find My Device Turn off any theft protection features View trusted places Turn off Identity Check Set up a new device with your current device Add or remove a Google Account Access Developer options Identity C...

Secure Your Enterprise With Zoho Vault Password Management Software

Jan 11, 2017
Recent data breaches have taught us something very important — online users are spectacularly bad at choosing their strong passwords. Today majority of online users are vulnerable to cyber attacks, not because they are not using any best antivirus or other security measures, but because they are using weak passwords that are easy to remember and reuse same passwords on multiple accounts and reusable passwords to secure their online accounts. Ideally, your password should be at least 16 characters long and should contain a combination of digits, symbols, uppercase letters and lowercase letters. Most of us know about this good password practice, but we just ignore it because it is really painful for us to memorize complex password strings for different accounts. Here comes the need of a Password Manager OR  Password Management Software . Password Manager can significantly reduce your password memorizing problem, along with the cure for your bad habit of setting weak pass...
