CBI Website Hacked: Pakistani Group Claims Responsibility

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) confirmed on Saturday that its website was hacked. The CBI has registered a case under the Information Technology Act. "It has come to the notice of the CBI that its official website was unauthorizedly accessed and defaced during the night of December 3 and 4. A case has been registered in this connection in the cyber crime cell of the CBI," an official spokesperson told the media on Saturday. Efforts are ongoing to restore the website. "Efforts are underway to restore the website with the help of the National Informatics Centre and CBI cybersecurity experts," said the spokesperson. Reports emerged on Friday that the website of India's federal investigating agency had been hacked. The CBI website remained inaccessible today after it was hacked, allegedly by a Pakistani group. Late last year, activists attacked websites belonging to companies that refused to do business with WikiLeaks, an online group that has disclosed classified U.S. government documents. When the activists, who called themselves Anonymous, found out they were being investigated by the Internet security company HBGary Federal, the group hacked the company's servers and stole thousands of private e-mails. And then it dumped them onto the Internet. It was an embarrassment for the security company to get hacked — but the content of some of those e-mails is raising concerns. The cyber war between Pakistani and Indian hackers is intensifying. A group called the Indian Cyber Army (ICA) has claimed access to scripts from more than 375 Pakistani websites, including those belonging to the government, high-level organizations, and notable individuals. Hackers from both countries are targeting significant public and private websites. Last week, a group named Pak Cyber Army (PCA) hacked approximately 300 Indian websites. The ICA has warned it could hack another 375 Pakistani websites by December 31, 2010. In response to these threats, the government has taken serious measures. A special cell under the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), known as the National Response Centre for Cyber Crimes (NR3C), has been established to monitor Pakistani websites, particularly government sites, according to Inam Ghani, Project Director NR3C. Popular Indian news portal www.indiablooms.com, the online version of the national news agency India Blooms News Service (IBNS), was hacked by the Pakistani hackers on Sunday afternoon. " Pakistani Hackers- Your site has been Hacked " said the redirected page of the site which was hacked around Indian time 330 pm. Later the site administrators restored the original index page, but the threat of another attempt looms large. Cryptographer Professor Jean-Jacques Quisquater has become the part of a targeted attack by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and its British counterpart GCHQ, first reported on Saturday morning by De Standaard . A few months back in September 2013 it was revealed that, Belgacom , the largest telecommunications company in Belgium was hacked and number of employees on Belgacom's network, including their servers were compromised. Later in November 2013 , it was revealed that the NSA and GCHQ were behind the infiltration of the company's computers, according to the document provided by the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden . The document detailed that the British intelligence agency GCHQ created fake ' LinkedIn ' and ' Slashdot ' pages to spy on computers of Belgacom network engineers. The official Twitter and YouTube accounts for the US military's Central Command ( CENTCOM ) that oversees operations in Central Asia and the Middle East were hacked on Monday by a hacker group claiming association with Islamic State militant group, also known as ISIS. The hacker group, appears to call itself " CyberCaliphate ", managed to gain access to the CENTCOM social accounts, and posted some screenshots of documents, allegedly internal CENTCOM documents, with links to what they described as leaked military files. Meanwhile, YouTube page related to the US military's Central Command was set to display propaganda videos in support of the terrorist group ISIS. US authorities have arrested two North Carolina men on charges that they were part of the notorious hacking group " Crackas With Attitude ." Crackas with Attitude is the group of hackers who allegedly was behind a series of audacious and embarrassing hacks that targeted personal email accounts of senior officials at the CIA, FBI, the White House, Homeland Security Department, and other US federal agencies. Andrew Otto Boggs, 22, of North Wilkesboro, N.C., who allegedly used the handle " INCURSIO ," and Justin Gray Liverman, 24, of Morehead City, who known online as " D3F4ULT ," were arrested on Thursday morning on charges related to their alleged roles in the computer hacking, according to a press release by Department of Justice. Cybersecurity researchers are calling attention to phishing campaigns that impersonate popular brands and trick targets into calling phone numbers operated by threat actors. "A significant portion of email threats with PDF payloads persuade victims to call adversary-controlled phone numbers, displaying another popular social engineering technique known as Telephone-Oriented Attack Delivery (TOAD), also known as callback phishing," Cisco Talos researcher Omid Mirzaei said in a report shared with The Hacker News. An analysis of phishing emails with PDF attachments between May 5 and June 5, 2025, has revealed Microsoft and Docusign to be the most impersonated brands. NortonLifeLock, PayPal, and Geek Squad are among the most impersonated brands in TOAD emails with PDF attachments.
