Why You Should Enroll In Cyber Security Awareness Training

Why You Should Enroll In Cyber Security Awareness Training

Apr 14, 2015
When it comes to cyber security, even big organizations lack the basic knowledge of how to protect company's data from the outside. Everyday businesses are facing the threat of phishing, ransomware , data breaches and malware attacks that not only results in millions of dollars losses, but also damaged the reputations. A new study shows that five out of six of the most serious IT security threats directly relate to phishing or the aftermath of a successful phishing attack . SEA, short for Syrian Electronic Army , is famous for its advanced phishing attack capabilities and with the help of the same technique they fooled many popular organizations, social media and news media, including Twitter, Microsoft, Skype, Forbes, eBay and Paypal. Where do we lack? According to the annual Verizon Data Breach Investigations report, about 58% of cyber security incidents were caused by employees, either due to failure in handling data or approving malicious data. So, in...
Cross-Domain Attacks: A Growing Threat to Modern Security and How to Combat Them

Cross-Domain Attacks: A Growing Threat to Modern Security and How to Combat Them

Jan 02, 2025 Cloud Security / Threat Intelligence
In the past year, cross-domain attacks have gained prominence as an emerging tactic among adversaries. These operations exploit weak points across multiple domains – including endpoints, identity systems and cloud environments – so the adversary can infiltrate organizations, move laterally and evade detection. eCrime groups like SCATTERED SPIDER and North Korea-nexus adversaries such as FAMOUS CHOLLIMA exemplify the use of cross-domain tactics, leveraging advanced techniques to exploit security gaps across interconnected environments.  The foundation of these attacks is built around the exploitation of legitimate identities. Today's adversaries no longer "break in"; they "log in" – leveraging compromised credentials to gain access and blend seamlessly into their targets. Once inside, they exploit legitimate tools and processes, making them difficult to detect as they pivot across domains and escalate privileges. The Current State of Identity Security The rise in cross-domain...

Perfection is a Myth. Leverage Isn't: How Small Teams Can Secure Their Google Workspace

Perfection is a Myth. Leverage Isn't: How Small Teams Can Secure Their Google Workspace

May 05, 2025 Cloud Security / Security Operations
Let's be honest: if you're one of the first (or the first) security hires at a small or midsize business, chances are you're also the unofficial CISO, SOC, IT Help Desk, and whatever additional roles need filling. You're not running a security department. You are THE security department. You're getting pinged about RFPs in one area, and reviewing phishing alerts in another, all while sifting through endless FP alerts across the board. The tools meant to help are often creating more work than they solve. Security teams end up choosing between letting things slip or becoming the "Department of No." Chances are you inherited your company's Google Workspace. Thankfully, Google handles the infrastructure, the uptime, and the spam filtering. But while Google takes care of a lot, it doesn't cover everything, and it can be difficult for security teams to operationalize all of Google's underlying capabilities without significant engineering work. It's your job to se...

Learn Ethical Hacking — Get 8 Online Courses For Just $29

Oct 17, 2017
With the rise in cyber-crimes, ethical hacking has become a powerful strategy in the fight against online threats. In general terms, ethical hackers are authorised to break into supposedly 'secure' computer systems without malicious intent, but with the aim of discovering vulnerabilities to bring about improved protection. Ethical Hackers are now kind of becoming the alchemists of the 21st century. More and more organisations are being targeted in cyber-attacks, and they must get to know their enemy if they are to protect vital networks. Meet the professional, ethical hacker. Despite this, the common belief among many at-risk companies is that 'to outwit a hacker, you need to hire one'. With so much at stake, even technology providers are turning to those with hacking skills to find the flaws in their products and fix them before the baddies can exploit them. Infamous Apple Hacker Turned Ethical; Hired by Facebook 23-year-old George 'GeoHot' Ho...

THN Recap: Top Cybersecurity Threats, Tools, and Practices (Nov 04 - Nov 10)

Nov 11, 2024 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
⚠️ Imagine this: the very tools you trust to protect you online—your two-factor authentication, your car's tech system, even your security software—turned into silent allies for hackers. Sounds like a scene from a thriller, right? Yet, in 2024, this isn't fiction; it's the new cyber reality. Today's attackers have become so sophisticated that they're using our trusted tools as secret pathways, slipping past defenses without a 🔍 trace. For banks 🏦, this is especially alarming. Today's malware doesn't just steal codes; it targets the very trust that digital banking relies on. These threats are more advanced and smarter than ever, often staying a step ahead of defenses. And it doesn't stop there. Critical systems that power our cities are at risk too. Hackers are hiding within the very tools that run these essential services, making them harder to detect and harder to stop. It's a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek, where each move raises the risk. As these threats grow, let's dive ...

CISA and NSA Issue Urgent Guidance to Secure WSUS and Microsoft Exchange Servers

Oct 31, 2025 Vulnerability / Threat Intelligence
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and National Security Agency (NSA), along with international partners from Australia and Canada, have released guidance to harden on-premise Microsoft Exchange Server instances from potential exploitation. "By restricting administrative access, implementing multi-factor authentication, enforcing strict transport security configurations, and adopting zero trust (ZT) security model principles, organizations can significantly bolster their defenses against potential cyber attacks," CISA said . The agencies said malicious activity aimed at Microsoft Exchange Server continues to take place, with unprotected and misconfigured instances facing the brunt of the attacks. Organizations are advised to decommission end-of-life on-premises or hybrid Exchange servers after transitioning to Microsoft 365. Some of the best practices outlined are listed below - Maintain security updates and patching cadence Migrate end-o...

⚡ Weekly Recap: NFC Fraud, Curly COMrades, N-able Exploits, Docker Backdoors & More

Aug 18, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
Power doesn't just disappear in one big breach. It slips away in the small stuff—a patch that's missed, a setting that's wrong, a system no one is watching. Security usually doesn't fail all at once; it breaks slowly, then suddenly. Staying safe isn't about knowing everything—it's about acting fast and clear before problems pile up. Clarity keeps control. Hesitation creates risk. Here are this week's signals—each one pointing to where action matters most. ⚡ Threat of the Week Ghost Tap NFC-Based Mobile Fraud Takes Off — A new Android trojan called PhantomCard has become the latest malware to abuse near-field communication (NFC) to conduct relay attacks for facilitating fraudulent transactions in attacks targeting banking customers in Brazil. In these attacks, users who end up installing the malicious apps are instructed to place their credit/debit card on the back of the phone to begin the verification process, only for the card data to be sent to an attacker-controlled NFC relay...
