Cleo File Transfer Vulnerability Under Exploitation – Patch Pending, Mitigation Urged

Dec 10, 2024 Vulnerability / Threat Analysis
Users of Cleo-managed file transfer software are being urged to ensure that their instances are not exposed to the internet following reports of mass exploitation of a vulnerability affecting fully patched systems. Cybersecurity company Huntress said it discovered evidence of threat actors exploiting the issue en masse on December 3, 2024. The vulnerability, which impacts Cleo's LexiCom, VLTransfer, and Harmony software, concerns a case of unauthenticated remote code execution. The security hole is tracked as CVE-2024-50623 (CVSS score: 9.8), with Cleo noting that the flaw is the result of an unrestricted file upload that could pave the way for the execution of arbitrary code. The Illinois-based company, which has over 4,200 customers across the world, has since issued another advisory (CVE-2024-55956), warning of a separate "unauthenticated malicious hosts vulnerability that could lead to remote code execution." The development comes after Huntress said the pat...

Leaked Black Basta Ransomware Chat Logs Reveal Inner Workings and Internal Conflicts

Feb 26, 2025 Ransomware / Cyber Threat
More than a year's worth of internal chat logs from a ransomware gang known as Black Basta have been published online in a leak that provides unprecedented visibility into their tactics and internal conflicts among its members. The Russian-language chats on the Matrix messaging platform between September 18, 2023, and September 28, 2024, were initially leaked on February 11, 2025, by an individual who goes by the handle ExploitWhispers , who claimed that they released the data because the group was targeting Russian banks. The identity of the leaker remains a mystery. Black Basta first came under the spotlight in April 2022, using the now-largely-defunct QakBot (aka QBot) as a delivery vehicle. According to an advisory published by the U.S. government in May 2024, the double extortion crew is estimated to have targeted more than 500 private industry and critical infrastructure entities in North America, Europe, and Australia. Per Elliptic and Corvus Insurance, the prolific r...

CL0P-Linked Hackers Breach Dozens of Organizations Through Oracle Software Flaw

Oct 10, 2025 Vulnerability / Threat Intelligence
Dozens of organizations may have been impacted following the zero-day exploitation of a security flaw in Oracle's E-Business Suite (EBS) software since August 9, 2025 , Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) and Mandiant said in a new report released Thursday. "We're still assessing the scope of this incident , but we believe it affected dozens of organizations," John Hultquist, chief analyst of GTIG at Google Cloud, said in a statement shared with The Hacker News. "Some historic Cl0p data extortion campaigns have had hundreds of victims. Unfortunately, large-scale zero-day campaigns like this are becoming a regular feature of cybercrime." The activity, which bears some hallmarks associated with the Cl0p ransomware crew, is assessed to have fashioned together multiple distinct vulnerabilities, including a zero-day flaw tracked as CVE-2025-61882 (CVSS score: 9.8), to breach target networks and exfiltrate sensitive data. Google said it found evidence of ...
