Ruling in Assange Extradition Case Expected Feb. 24,2011 !

Ruling in Assange Extradition Case Expected Feb. 24,2011 !

Feb 12, 2011
Final arguments in the extradition hearing of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange were presented in a London court on Friday. The judge is expected to rule on February 24, but the case is likely to continue long afterward if either side files an appeal. Assange is being sought for questioning in Sweden on rape and coercion allegations stemming from sexual relations he had with two women in that country last August. One woman has claimed that Assange pinned her down to have sex with her and intentionally tore a condom he wore. The second woman claims that he had sex with her while she was initially asleep, failing to wear a condom despite repeated requests for him to do so. Assange has disputed their claims. Assange's attorneys have argued that Swedish prosecutor Marianne Ny had abused the Swedish and U.K. legal process by attempting to extradite Assange without charging him with a crime, and for alleged offenses that are not subject to extradition. They contradicted Ny's assertion that ...

Stuxnet Hit 5 Gateway Targets on Its Way to Iranian Plant !

Feb 12, 2011
Attackers behind the Stuxnet computer worm focused on targeting five organizations in Iran that they believed would get them to their final target in that country, according to a new report from security researchers. The five organizations, believed to be the first that were infected with the worm, were targeted in five separate attacks over a number of months in 2009 and 2010, before Stuxnet was discovered in June 2010 and publicly exposed. Stuxnet spread from these organizations into other organizations on its way to its final target, which is believed to have been a nuclear enrichment facility or facilities in Iran. "These five organizations were infected, and from those five computers Stuxnet spread out — not to just computers in those organizations, but to other computes as well," says Liam O Murchu, manager of operations for Symantec Security Response. "It all started with those five original domains." The new information comes in an updated report from resea...

Nmap 5.51 Latest Version Out Now !

Feb 12, 2011
" Nmap ("Network Mapper") is a free and open source utility for network exploration or security auditing. Many systems and network administrators also find it useful for tasks such as network inventory, managing service upgrade schedules, and monitoring host or service uptime. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, but works fine against single hosts. Nmap runs on all major computer operating systems, and official binary packages are avalable for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. In addition to the classic command-line Nmap executable, the Nmap suite includes an advanced GUI and results viewer (Zenmap), a flexible data transfer, redirection, and debugging tool (Ncat), and a u...

Anti-computer hacking bill coming in U.S. Congress !

Feb 12, 2011
Strengthening cybersecurity is the goal of legislation being introduced in the U.S. Congress after reports of hack attacks on computer networks at Nasdaq OMX Group (NDAQ.O) and at oil and gas companies. "Cyber-threats are not on the horizon, they are upon us," Democratic Senator Robert Menendez, who is introducing the bill, said in a statement on Thursday. The bipartisan Cybersecurity Enhancement Act would fund more cybersecurity research, awareness and education. "Businesses and investors must trust that their investments are secure. We cannot allow security breaches to undermine our trust in the U.S. economy," said Menendez, from New Jersey. Hackers working in China broke into computer systems of five multinational oil and gas companies to steal bidding plans and other critical information, computer security firm McAfee Inc (MFE.N) said on Thursday. Nasdaq OMX, operator of the Nasdaq Stock Market, said over the weekend that it had found "suspicious ...
