Empower Users and Protect Against GenAI Data Loss

Empower Users and Protect Against GenAI Data Loss

Jun 06, 2025 Artificial Intelligence / Zero Trust
When generative AI tools became widely available in late 2022, it wasn't just technologists who paid attention. Employees across all industries immediately recognized the potential of generative AI to boost productivity, streamline communication and accelerate work. Like so many waves of consumer-first IT innovation before it—file sharing, cloud storage and collaboration platforms—AI landed in the enterprise not through official channels, but through the hands of employees eager to work smarter. Faced with the risk of sensitive data being fed into public AI interfaces, many organizations responded with urgency and force: They blocked access. While understandable as an initial defensive measure, blocking public AI apps is not a long-term strategy—it's a stopgap. And in most cases, it's not even effective. Shadow AI: The Unseen Risk The Zscaler ThreatLabz team has been tracking AI and machine learning (ML) traffic across enterprises, and the numbers tell a compelling story. In 2024 ...

Your SaaS Data Isn't Safe: Why Traditional DLP Solutions Fail in the Browser Era

Jun 04, 2025 Browser Security / Enterprise Security
Traditional data leakage prevention (DLP) tools aren't keeping pace with the realities of how modern businesses use SaaS applications. Companies today rely heavily on SaaS platforms like Google Workspace, Salesforce, Slack, and generative AI tools, significantly altering the way sensitive information is handled. In these environments, data rarely appears as traditional files or crosses networks in ways endpoint or network-based DLP tools can monitor. Yet, most companies continue using legacy DLP systems, leaving critical security gaps. A new white paper, Rethinking DLP For The SaaS Era: Why Browser-Centric DLP is the New Mandate , identifies precisely why current DLP methods struggle to secure modern SaaS-driven workflows. It also explores how browser-native security addresses these gaps by focusing security efforts exactly where user interactions occur, in the browser. Why Traditional DLP Tools Fall Short Traditional DLP solutions were built for a simpler time when sensitive...
Perfection is a Myth. Leverage Isn't: How Small Teams Can Secure Their Google Workspace

Perfection is a Myth. Leverage Isn't: How Small Teams Can Secure Their Google Workspace

May 05, 2025 Cloud Security / Security Operations
Let's be honest: if you're one of the first (or the first) security hires at a small or midsize business, chances are you're also the unofficial CISO, SOC, IT Help Desk, and whatever additional roles need filling. You're not running a security department. You are THE security department. You're getting pinged about RFPs in one area, and reviewing phishing alerts in another, all while sifting through endless FP alerts across the board. The tools meant to help are often creating more work than they solve. Security teams end up choosing between letting things slip or becoming the "Department of No." Chances are you inherited your company's Google Workspace. Thankfully, Google handles the infrastructure, the uptime, and the spam filtering. But while Google takes care of a lot, it doesn't cover everything, and it can be difficult for security teams to operationalize all of Google's underlying capabilities without significant engineering work. It's your job to se...

Identity Security Has an Automation Problem—And It's Bigger Than You Think

Identity Security Has an Automation Problem—And It's Bigger Than You Think

May 22, 2025Enterprise Security / Identity Management
For many organizations, identity security appears to be under control. On paper, everything checks out. But new research from Cerby, based on insights from over 500 IT and security leaders, reveals a different reality: too much still depends on people—not systems—to function. In fact, fewer than 4% of security teams have fully automated their core identity workflows . Core workflows, like enrolling in Multi Factor Authentication (MFA), keeping credentials secure and up to date, and revoking access the moment someone leaves—are often manual, inconsistent, and vulnerable to error. And when security execution relies on memory or follow-up, gaps appear fast. Human error remains one of the biggest threats to enterprise security. Verizon's 2025 Data Breach report found that the human element was involved in 60% of breaches. The same manual missteps that led to breaches a decade ago still expose identity systems today. Cerby's 2025 Identity Automation Gap research report shows just how wi...
5 Major Concerns With Employees Using The Browser

5 Major Concerns With Employees Using The Browser

Apr 22, 2025 SaaS Security / Browser Security
As SaaS and cloud-native work reshape the enterprise, the web browser has emerged as the new endpoint. However, unlike endpoints, browsers remain mostly unmonitored, despite being responsible for more than 70% of modern malware attacks . Keep Aware's recent State of Browser Security report highlights major concerns security leaders face with employees using the web browser for most of their work. The reality is that traditional security tools are blind to what happens within the browser , and attackers know it. Key Findings: 70% of phishing campaigns impersonate Microsoft, OneDrive, or Office 365 to exploit user trust. 150+ trusted platforms like Google Docs and Dropbox are being abused to host phishing and exfiltrate data. 10% of AI prompts involve sensitive business content, posing risks across thousands of browser-based AI tools. 34% of file uploads on company devices go to personal accounts, often undetected. New Attack Patterns Bypass Traditional Defenses From phis...
Microsoft Adds Inline Data Protection to Edge for Business to Block GenAI Data Leaks

Microsoft Adds Inline Data Protection to Edge for Business to Block GenAI Data Leaks

Mar 24, 2025 Enterprise Security / Browser Security
Microsoft on Monday announced a new feature called inline data protection for its enterprise-focused Edge for Business web browser. The native data security control is designed to prevent employees from sharing sensitive company-related data into consumer generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) apps like OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and DeepSeek. The list will be expanded over time to include other genAI, email, collaboration, and social media apps. "With the new inline protection capability for Edge for Business, you can prevent data leakage across the various ways that users interact with sensitive data in the browser, including typing of text directly into a web application or generative AI prompt," the tech giant said. The Microsoft Purview browser data loss prevention ( DLP ) controls come as the company announced the General Availability of collaboration security for Microsoft Teams in an effort to tackle phishing attacks against users of the enterprise com...

Recover from Ransomware in 5 Minutes—We will Teach You How!

Apr 18, 2024 Cyber Resilience / Data Protection
Super Low RPO with Continuous Data Protection: Dial Back to Just Seconds Before an Attack Zerto , a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, can help you detect and recover from ransomware in near real-time. This solution leverages continuous data protection (CDP) to ensure all workloads have the lowest recovery point objective (RPO) possible. The most valuable thing about CDP is that it does not use snapshots, agents, or any other periodic data protection methodology. Zerto has no impact on production workloads and can achieve RPOs in the region of 5-15 seconds across thousands of virtual machines simultaneously. For example, the environment in the image below has nearly 1,000 VMs being protected with an average RPO of just six seconds! Application-Centric Protection: Group Your VMs to Gain Application-Level Control   You can protect your VMs with the Zerto application-centric approach using Virtual Protection Groups (VPGs). This logical grouping of VMs ensures that your whole app...

Demystifying a Common Cybersecurity Myth

Demystifying a Common Cybersecurity Myth

Mar 13, 2024 App Security / Cyber Security
One of the most common misconceptions in file upload cybersecurity is that certain tools are "enough" on their own—this is simply not the case. In our latest  whitepaper  OPSWAT CEO and Founder, Benny Czarny, takes a comprehensive look at what it takes to prevent malware threats in today's ever-evolving file upload security landscape, and a big part of that is understanding where the pitfalls are, and how to avoid them. The first step in that process is understanding that three commonly used tools or solutions are not enough on their own. Let's explore this concept and take a closer look at a better solution. Understanding the Challenge Modern web applications are complex, utilizing internet-connected IT systems that interface with critical OT systems, as well as leveraging a wide range of cloud providers and protocols. All these systems transfer and store highly sensitive and valuable data across government, healthcare, power, financial, and other critical sectors the wor...
