Peerio — End-to-End Encrypted Secure Messenger and File Sharing App

Peerio — End-to-End Encrypted Secure Messenger and File Sharing App

Jan 15, 2015
On one end, where governments of countries like U.K is criticizing end-to-end encryption and considering to ban the encrypted communication apps like Snapchat, CryptoCat, WhatsApp and Apple's iMessage. On the other hand, the Internet community has come up with a new and rather more secure encrypted communication app. Dubbed Peerio , an " encrypted productivity suite " designed to offer much more usable alternative to PGP email and file encryption, so that every individual user and business can encrypt everything from Instant Messages to online file storage. Peerio, released on Wednesday, is designed by 24-year-old Nadim Kobeissi – the creator of the end-to-end encrypted group messaging app Cryptocat and the encrypted file-sharing app MiniLock . " With Peerio everything you share or communicate with your team is secured with state-of-the-art encryption , and it's as easy as using Gmail. You don't need to learn to use it, " Kobeissi told Wired. ...

miniLock - Open Source File Encryption Tool from CryptoCat Developer

Jul 06, 2014
It's the age of surveillance what made the Use of Encryption so widely that it has become a need of law enforcement agencies, cyber criminals as well as every individual. But, encryption is not so easy. To solve this problem, a 23-year old Cryptocat developer Nadim Kobeissi is ready to release a simple solution to deliver strong encryption at the HOPE hacker conference in New York later this month, which may soon come as an extension for Google Chrome web browser, Wired reported . The encryption program is dubbed as miniLock , which is a free and open-source browser plugin designed to let anyone encrypt and decrypt files in seconds using a drag-and-drop interface with practically unbreakable cryptographic protection. " The tagline is that this is file encryption that does more with less, " says Kobeissi, activist and security consultant. " It's super simple, approachable, and it's almost impossible to be confused using it. " Drag-and-drop interface here means, miniL...
Protecting Your Software Supply Chain: Assessing the Risks Before Deployment

Protecting Your Software Supply Chain: Assessing the Risks Before Deployment

Feb 11, 2025Software Security / Threat Intelligence
Imagine you're considering a new car for your family. Before making a purchase, you evaluate its safety ratings, fuel efficiency, and reliability. You might even take it for a test drive to ensure it meets your needs. The same approach should be applied to software and hardware products before integrating them into an organization's environment. Just as you wouldn't buy a car without knowing its safety features, you shouldn't deploy software without understanding the risks it introduces. The Rising Threat of Supply Chain Attacks Cybercriminals have recognized that instead of attacking an organization head-on, they can infiltrate through the software supply chain—like slipping counterfeit parts into an assembly line. According to the 2024 Sonatype State of the Software Supply Chain report , attackers are infiltrating open-source ecosystems at an alarming rate, with over 512,847 malicious packages detected last year alone—a 156% increase from the previous year. Traditional sec...
Cryptocat offers End-to End Encryption For Facebook Messenger

Cryptocat offers End-to End Encryption For Facebook Messenger

May 15, 2014
It's an era of Mass Surveillance, where Encryption has become more important today for all of us than any other time in the History. But the trouble is that Crypto programs are too hard for Non-Internet-Savvy to implement and use. Time is loudly announcing the need to switch to some alternatives that provide end-to-end encryption for communication between two devices in order to keep your personal data away from NSA's prying eyes and respect your Privacy . But, many services, including Facebook's messaging application, don't support encryption and therefore are weak in providing security of our online data, which could result in data breach either by cyber criminals or by our own Government under surveillance programs. Because Facebook's messaging application doesn't support end-to-end encryption, an Open-source and most popular crypto chat-encryption application called 'Cryptocat' has made it possible to chat with your Facebook friends and rel...

Encrypted Chat Service 'Cryptocat' released iOS app

Encrypted Chat Service 'Cryptocat' released iOS app

Mar 05, 2014
Cryptocat , an open source encrypted web-based chat client, is now available for iOS Devices from the  Apple's App store , which was initially rejected by the Apple last December. It is not clear why it was rejected previously, but the good news is that, now ' Cryptocat ' is available for all iOS Devices. So far Cryptocat was only available for Linux and Mac OS X, and as an extension for web browsers Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome 3, Apple Safari and Opera . Cryptocat has become quite popular in the wake of the NSA Controversy, because of its end-to-end encryption that doesn't allow anyone in the middle to read your messages. Cryptocat for iPhone uses the OTR protocol for private conversations, a cryptographic protocol for secure instant messaging, and perfect forward secrecy, a system that constantly generates new user keys. So, snoops cannot decrypt older messages. It doesn't require any username or account rather just one time nickname makes the...
CryptorBit Ransomware that scam for Ransom money with fake Decryption Keys

CryptorBit Ransomware that scam for Ransom money with fake Decryption Keys

Jan 28, 2014
We are continuously keeping our eye on new variants of the widely spread Ransomware family like Cryptolocker , Prison Locker, Copycat and Locker which encrypts your files and ask for a random amount to decrypt it.  If infected by such malware, to be very honest, there is no hope for recovering your documents without paying a ransom amount to the cyber criminals. Online users are now facing another similar ransomware called ' CryptorBit ', ( Virustotal report ) first spotted on September 2013. It is not a variant of Cryptolocker but it does exactly the same thing i.e. Encrypt all the files on the Hard Disk. CryptorBit is an infection that activates by clicking links in a spam message or malicious email, or websites while browsing the web, or by opening an attachment in an email from a malicious source. Once your system gets infected by the CryptorBit, it will encrypt your files and hold them until a ransom of $50 - $500 or more is not paid. It will display...

Cryptocat, a Secure and Encrypted chat blocked in Iran

Nov 24, 2013
Users in Iran call Internet as " Filternet ", because of the heavily censored Internet access they have. Million Iranians used VPN servers to access the outside world. In October, 2013 Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter asked Iranian President, ' Are citizens of Iran able to read your tweets? ' In Reply Mr. The President said that he will work to make sure Iranians have access to information globally in what appears to be a reference to reducing online censorship. Just after promising to support Internet Freedom, the Iran Government has banned yet another web application called -  Cryptocat , a tool that allows for secure and encrypted chat. The app is well known for bringing encrypted communications to the masses, popular with human rights activists and journalists around the world. According to ' Blockediniran.com ', Cryptocat website and the associated private chat service were inaccessible to our users in Iran. Currently since Monday.  ' I...
