Hands-on Review: Myrror Security Code-Aware and Attack-Aware SCA

Hands-on Review: Myrror Security Code-Aware and Attack-Aware SCA

Feb 09, 2024 Static Code Analysis
Introduction The modern software supply chain represents an ever-evolving threat landscape, with each package added to the manifest introducing new attack vectors. To meet industry requirements, organizations must maintain a fast-paced development process while staying up-to-date with the latest security patches. However, in practice, developers often face a large amount of security work without clear prioritization - and miss a significant portion of the attack surface altogether. The primary issue arises from the detection and prioritization methods used by traditional Static Code Analysis (SCA) tools for vulnerabilities. These methods lack the organizational-specific context needed to make an informed scoring decision: the score, even if critical, might not  actually  be critical for an organization because its infrastructure works in a unique way - affecting the actual impact the vulnerability might have.  In other words, since these tools depend on a relatively ...
Multi-Stage VOID#GEIST Malware Delivering XWorm, AsyncRAT, and Xeno RAT

Multi-Stage VOID#GEIST Malware Delivering XWorm, AsyncRAT, and Xeno RAT

Mar 06, 2026 Threat Intelligence / Windows Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a multi-stage malware campaign that uses batch scripts as a pathway to deliver various encrypted remote access trojan (RATs) payloads that correspond to XWorm , AsyncRAT , and Xeno RAT . The stealthy attack chain has been codenamed VOID#GEIST by Securonix Threat Research. At a high level, the obfuscated batch script is used to deploy a second batch script, stage a legitimate embedded Python runtime, and decrypt encrypted shellcode blobs, which are executed directly in memory by injecting them into separate instances of "explorer.exe" using a technique called Early Bird Asynchronous Procedure Call (APC) injection . "Modern malware campaigns increasingly shift from standalone executables toward complex, script-based delivery frameworks that closely mimic legitimate user activity," researchers Akshay Gaikwad, Shikha Sangwan, and Aaron Beardslee said in a technical report shared with The Hacker News. "Rath...
A Framework for Enhanced Security: Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM)

A Framework for Enhanced Security: Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM)

May 29, 2023 Cloud Security / Exposure Management
If you're a cybersecurity professional, you're likely familiar with the sea of acronyms our industry is obsessed with. From CNAPP, to CWPP, to CIEM and all of the myriad others, there seems to be a new initialism born each day. In this article, we'll look at another trending acronym – CTEM, which stands for Continuous Threat Exposure Management – and the often-surprising challenges that come along with seeing a CTEM program through to maturity. While the concept of CTEM isn't brand spanking new, having made its in-print debut in July of 2022, we are now at the point where many organizations are starting to try to operationalize the programs that they've been setting into motion over the last few months. And as organizations start to execute their carefully designed plans, they may find themselves bumping up against some unexpected challenges which can lead to setbacks.  What is Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM)? But first, to backtrack, let's just...

From MostereRAT to ClickFix: New Malware Campaigns Highlight Rising AI and Phishing Risks

Sep 09, 2025 Windows Security / AI Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a phishing campaign that delivers a stealthy banking malware-turned-remote access trojan called MostereRAT . The phishing attack incorporates a number of advanced evasion techniques to gain complete control over compromised systems, siphon sensitive data, and extend its functionality by serving secondary plugins, Fortinet FortiGuard Labs said. "These include the use of an Easy Programming Language ( EPL ) to develop a staged payload, concealing malicious operations and disabling security tools to prevent alert triggers, securing command-and-control (C2) communications using mutual TLS (mTLS), supporting various methods for deploying additional payloads, and even installing popular remote access tools," Yurren Wan said . EPL is an obscure visual programming language that supports traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, English, and Japanese variants. It's chiefly meant for users who may not be proficient in English....
Blind Eagle Hackers Return with Refined Tools and Sophisticated Infection Chain

Blind Eagle Hackers Return with Refined Tools and Sophisticated Infection Chain

Jan 05, 2023 Cyber Attack / Malware
A financially motivated threat actor tracked as  Blind Eagle  has resurfaced with a refined toolset and an elaborate infection chain as part of its attacks targeting organizations in Colombia and Ecuador. Check Point's  latest research  offers new insights into the Spanish-speaking group's tactics and techniques, including the use of sophisticated tools and government-themed lures to activate the killchain. Also tracked under the name APT-C-36, Blind Eagle is notable for its narrow geographical focus and launching indiscriminate attacks against South American nations since at least 2018. Blind Eagle's operations have been  documented  by Trend Micro in September 2021, when it described a spear-phishing campaign primarily aimed at Colombian entities that's designed to deliver a commodity malware known as  BitRAT , with a lesser focus towards targets in Ecuador, Spain, and Panama. Attack chains commence with phishing emails containing a booby-trapp...

This Cryptomining Malware Launches Linux VMs On Windows and macOS

Jun 21, 2019
Cybersecurity researchers from at least two firms today unveiled details of a new strain of malware that targets Windows and macOS systems with a Linux-based cryptocurrency mining malware. It may sound strange, but it's true. Dubbed " LoudMiner " and also " Bird Miner, " the attack leverages command-line based virtualization software on targeted systems to silently boot an image of Tiny Core Linux OS that already contains a hacker-activated cryptocurrency mining software in it. Isn't it interesting to use emulation to run single-platform malware on cross-platforms? Spotted by researchers at ESET and Malwarebytes , attackers are distributing this malware bundled with pirated and cracked copies of VST (Virtual Studio Technology) software on the Internet and via Torrent network since August 2018. VST applications contain sounds, effects, synthesizers, and other advanced editing features that allow tech-centric audio professionals to create music. ...
Dutch Police Training Eagles to Take Down Rogue Drones

Dutch Police Training Eagles to Take Down Rogue Drones

Feb 01, 2016
You may have seen number of viral entertainment videos on the Internet, titled: Hawk attacks Drone! Angry Bird takes down Quadcopter, and the best one… Eagle attack: Drone Kidnapped by two Eagles, ...showing eagles, not-so-natural predators, attacking and bringing down drones when someone with a camera tries to invade their private airspace. Inspired from this: The  Dutch National Police  force is training eagles to take down rogue drones, instead of shooting them, using radio jammers,  net-wielding interceptor drones  or anti-drone rifle . We already know the role Sniffer Dogs play for Anti-Bomb squads in detecting hidden bombs and weapons. If dogs can be trained, so can eagles. Keeping this in mind, it is the first time any police authority has trained eagles to safely bring down bad quadcopters in emergency cases. Dutch police reportedly collaborated with a raptor training company called 'Guard From Above ', to train eagles...

Bugs in Managed DNS Services Cloud Let Attackers Spy On DNS Traffic

Aug 11, 2021
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a new class of vulnerabilities impacting major DNS-as-a-Service (DNSaaS) providers that could allow attackers to exfiltrate sensitive information from corporate networks. "We found a simple loophole that allowed us to intercept a portion of worldwide dynamic DNS traffic going through managed DNS providers like Amazon and Google," researchers Shir Tamari and Ami Luttwak from infrastructure security firm Wiz  said . Calling it a "bottomless well of valuable intel," the treasure trove of information contains internal and external IP addresses, computer names, employee names and locations, and details about organizations' web domains. The findings were  presented  at the Black Hat USA 2021 security conference last week. "The traffic that leaked to us from internal network traffic provides malicious actors all the intel they would ever need to launch a successful attack," the researchers added. "More than t...

Product Walkthrough: Securing Microsoft Copilot with Reco

Apr 29, 2025 Data Security / SaaS Security
Find out how Reco keeps Microsoft 365 Copilot safe by spotting risky prompts, protecting data, managing user access, and identifying threats - all while keeping productivity high. Microsoft 365 Copilot promises to boost productivity by turning natural language prompts into actions. Employees can generate reports, comb through data, or get instant answers just by asking Copilot.  However, alongside this convenience comes serious security concerns. Copilot operates across a company’s SaaS apps (from SharePoint to Teams and beyond), which means a careless prompt or a compromised user account could expose troves of sensitive information.  Security experts warn that organizations shouldn't assume default settings will keep them safe. Without proactive controls, every file in your organization could be accessible via Copilot. A malicious actor might use Copilot to discover and exfiltrate confidential data without having to manually search through systems. With the right prom...
Cybercriminals Abusing Cloudflare Tunnels to Evade Detection and Spread Malware

Cybercriminals Abusing Cloudflare Tunnels to Evade Detection and Spread Malware

Aug 02, 2024 Malware / Network Security
Cybersecurity companies are warning about an uptick in the abuse of Clouflare's TryCloudflare free service for malware delivery. The activity, documented by both eSentire and Proofpoint , entails the use of TryCloudflare to create a rate-limited tunnel that acts as a conduit to relay traffic from an attacker-controlled server to a local machine through Cloudflare's infrastructure. Attack chains taking advantage of this technique have been observed delivering a cocktail of malware families such as AsyncRAT, GuLoader, PureLogs Stealer, Remcos RAT, Venom RAT, and XWorm. The initial access vector is a phishing email containing a ZIP archive, which includes a URL shortcut file that leads the message recipient to a Windows shortcut file hosted on a TryCloudflare-proxied WebDAV server. The shortcut file, in turn, executes next-stage batch scripts responsible for retrieving and executing additional Python payloads, while simultaneously displaying a decoy PDF document hosted on ...
