Guide: How Google Workspace-based Organizations can leverage Chrome to improve Security

Aug 16, 2023 Browser Security/ Online Security
More and more organizations are choosing Google Workspace as their default employee toolset of choice. But despite the productivity advantages, this organizational action also incurs a new security debt. Security teams now have to find a way to adjust their security architecture to this new cloud workload. Some teams may rely on their existing network security solutions. According to a  new guide , this is a hit and a miss. Network solutions, the guide claims, just don't cover all SaaS and browsing requirements. Meanwhile, Google offers a wide range of native security functionalities built-in to Chrome. These functionalities enable the organization to leverage the browser for consolidating security, simplifying operations and reducing costs. If you're wary about trusting Chrome with your security, then the guide is recommended to read. In great detail, it explains which security features Chrome offers users. These include: Forcing users to sign into Chrome, to ensure the ...
5 Security Lessons for Small Security Teams for the Post COVID19 Era

5 Security Lessons for Small Security Teams for the Post COVID19 Era

Feb 23, 2021
A full-time mass work from home (WFH) workforce was once considered an extreme risk scenario that few risk or security professionals even bothered to think about. Unfortunately, within a single day, businesses worldwide had to face such a reality. Their 3-year long digital transformation strategy was forced to become a 3-week sprint during which offices were abandoned, and people started working from home. Like in an eerie doomsday movie, servers were left on in the office, but nobody was sitting in the chairs. While everyone hopes that the world returns to its previous state, it's evident that work dynamics have changed forever. From now on, we can assume a hybrid work environment. Even companies that will require their employees to arrive daily at their offices recognize that they have undergone a digital transformation, and work from home habits will remain. The eBook "5 Security Lessons for Small Security Teams for a Post-COVID19 Era" ( download here ) helps ...

EC-Council Launches Center of Advanced Security Training (CAST) !

Mar 10, 2011
EC-Council Launches Center for Advanced Security Training (CAST) to Address the Growing Need for Advanced Information Security Knowledge Mar 9, 2011, Albuquerque, NM  - According to the report, Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44 th  President, released in November 2010 by Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), it is highlighted that technical proficiency is critical to the defense of IT networks and infrastructures. And there is evidently a shortage of such personnel in the current cyber defense workforce. The United States alone needs between 10,000 to 30,000 well-trained personnel who have specialized skills required to effectively guard its national assets. In essence, there is a huge shortage of highly technically skilled information security professionals. The problem is both of quantity, and quality, and this is not a problem just for the government space. Public and private companies are also in dire straits trying to fill such staffing needs. Th...

Between Buzz and Reality: The CTEM Conversation We All Need

Between Buzz and Reality: The CTEM Conversation We All Need

Jun 24, 2025Threat Exposure Management
I had the honor of hosting the first episode of the Xposure Podcast live from Xposure Summit 2025. And I couldn't have asked for a better kickoff panel: three cybersecurity leaders who don't just talk security, they live it. Let me introduce them. Alex Delay , CISO at IDB Bank, knows what it means to defend a highly regulated environment. Ben Mead , Director of Cybersecurity at Avidity Biosciences, brings a forward-thinking security perspective that reflects the innovation behind Avidity's targeted RNA therapeutics. Last but not least, Michael Francess , Director of Cybersecurity Advanced Threat at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, leads the charge in protecting the franchise. Each brought a unique vantage point to a common challenge: applying Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) to complex production environments. Gartner made waves in 2023 with a bold prediction: organizations that prioritize CTEM will be three times less likely to be breached by 2026. But here's the kicker -...
Top 7 Trends Shaping SaaS Security in 2024

Top 7 Trends Shaping SaaS Security in 2024

Dec 18, 2023 SaaS Security / Data Protection
Over the past few years, SaaS has developed into the backbone of corporate IT. Service businesses, such as medical practices, law firms, and financial services firms, are almost entirely SaaS based. Non-service businesses, including manufacturers and retailers, have about 70% of their software in the cloud.  These applications contain a wealth of data, from minimally sensitive general corporate information to highly sensitive intellectual property, customer records, and employee data. Threat actors have noted this shift, and are actively working to breach apps to access the data. Here are the top trends influencing the state of SaaS Security for 2024 — and what you can do about it.  Democratization of SaaS  SaaS apps have transformed the way organizations purchase and use software. Business units purchase and onboard the SaaS tools that best fit their needs. While this is empowering for business units that have long been frustrated by delays in procuring and onboardi...
How SSPM Simplifies Your SOC2 SaaS Security Posture Audit

How SSPM Simplifies Your SOC2 SaaS Security Posture Audit

Feb 03, 2022
An accountant and a security expert walk into a bar… SOC2 is no joke.  Whether you're a publicly held or private company, you are probably considering going through a Service Organization Controls (SOC) audit. For publicly held companies, these reports are required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and executed by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). However, customers often ask for SOC2 reports as part of their vendor due diligence process.  Out of the three types of SOC reports, SOC2 is the standard to successfully pass regulatory requirements and signals high security and resilience within the organization — and is based on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) attestation requirements. The purpose of this report is to evaluate an organization's information systems relevant to security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy — over a period of time (roughly six to twelve months).  As part of a SOC2 au...
Why Defenders Should Embrace a Hacker Mindset

Why Defenders Should Embrace a Hacker Mindset

Nov 20, 2023 Threat Management / Red Team
Today's security leaders must manage a constantly evolving attack surface and a dynamic threat environment due to interconnected devices, cloud services, IoT technologies, and hybrid work environments. Adversaries are constantly introducing new attack techniques, and not all companies have internal Red Teams or unlimited security resources to stay on top of the latest threats. On top of that, today's attackers are indiscriminate and every business - big or small - needs to be prepared. It is no longer enough for security teams to  detect and respond ; we must now also  predict and prevent . To handle today's security environment, defenders need to be agile and innovative. In short, we need to start thinking like a hacker.  Taking the mindset of an opportunistic threat actor allows you to not only gain a better understanding of potentially exploitable pathways, but also to more effectively prioritize your remediation efforts. It also helps you move past potentially harm...

Want More Secure Software? Start Recognizing Security-Skilled Developers

Oct 05, 2022
Professional developers want to do the right thing, but in terms of security, they are rarely set up for success. Organizations must support their upskilling with precision training and incentives if they want secure software from the ground up. The cyber threat landscape grows more complex by the day, with our data widely considered highly desirable "digital gold". Attackers are constantly scanning networks for vulnerable applications, programs, cloud instances, and the latest flavor of the month is APIs, with Gartner  correctly predicting  that they would become the most common attack vector in 2022, and that is in no small part thanks to their often lax security controls.  Threat actors are so persistent that new apps can sometimes be compromised and exploited within hours of deployment. The  Verizon 2022 Data Breach Investigations Report  reveals that errors and misconfigurations were the cause of 13% of breaches, with the human element responsible overal...
Achieve Security Compliance with Wazuh File Integrity Monitoring

Achieve Security Compliance with Wazuh File Integrity Monitoring

May 21, 2024 Threat Detection / Regulatory Compliance
File Integrity Monitoring (FIM) is an IT security control that monitors and detects file changes in computer systems. It helps organizations audit important files and system configurations by routinely scanning and verifying their integrity. Most information security standards mandate the use of FIM for businesses to ensure the integrity of their data. IT security compliance involves adhering to applicable laws, policies, regulations, procedures, and standards issued by governments and regulatory bodies such as PCI DSS, ISO 27001, TSC, GDPR, and HIPAA. Failure to comply with these regulations can lead to severe consequences such as cyber breaches, confidential data loss, financial loss, and reputational damage. Therefore, organizations must prioritize adherence to IT regulations and standards to mitigate risks and safeguard their information systems effectively. The rapid pace of technological advancement and a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals contribute to compliance...

Organizations are losing between $94 - $186 billion annually to vulnerable or insecure APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) and automated abuse by bots. That's according to The Economic Impact of API and Bot Attacks report from Imperva, a Thales company. The report highlights that these security threats account for up to 11.8% of global cyber events and losses, emphasizing the escalating risks they pose to businesses worldwide. Drawing on a comprehensive study conducted by the Marsh McLennan Cyber Risk Intelligence Center, the report analyzes over 161,000 unique cybersecurity incidents. The findings demonstrate a concerning trend: the threats posed by vulnerable or insecure APIs and automated abuse by bots are increasingly interconnected and prevalent. Imperva warns that failing to address security risks associated with these threats could lead to substantial financial and reputational damage. API Adoption and the Expanding Attack Surface APIs have become indispensable to mod...
Understanding the Shared Security Model in Amazon Web Services

Understanding the Shared Security Model in Amazon Web Services

May 21, 2015
Security in the Amazon EC2 environment is a responsibility shared by both the end user and Amazon. This is because within this environment there are specific parts that Amazon has control of and specific parts that are controlled by the end user. For the end user, they are responsible for securing the operating systems running on their instances, as well as the applications running on those operating systems. On the other hand, physical security and security of the hypervisor is Amazon's responsibility. When it comes to the network, security of that layer is a shared responsibility between the user and Amazon. Implications of the Shared Security Model Huge operational efficiencies can be gained in a shared security model, however this comes at the cost of the flexibility to have total control over an environment. In the past, significant security issues have occurred as organizations move to the shared model. During this transition, it's key that organizations under...
Getting Started with Security Testing: A Practical Guide for Startups

Getting Started with Security Testing: A Practical Guide for Startups

Jul 05, 2021
A common misconception among startup founders is that cybercriminals won't waste time on them, because they're not big or well known enough yet. But just because you are small doesn't mean  you're not in the firing line . The size of a startup does not exempt it from cyber-attacks – that's because hackers constantly scan the internet looking for flaws that they can exploit; one slip up, and your business can become front-page news, for the wrong reasons. Fortunately, buyers are also becoming increasingly aware of the importance of cybersecurity and are commonly asking startups about the processes they use to secure their data - meaning cybersecurity is now becoming an important business enabler. So if you're a CTO thinking about ramping up your web or mobile apps' cybersecurity posture, then you are already on the right track, but with so many options, where should you start? To help you get going, we created this guide that covers the following crucial...
