RANsacked: Over 100 Security Flaws Found in LTE and 5G Network Implementations

A group of academics has disclosed details of over 100 security vulnerabilities impacting LTE and 5G implementations that could be exploited by an attacker to disrupt access to service and even gain a foothold into the cellular core network. The 119 vulnerabilities , assigned 97 unique CVE identifiers, span seven LTE implementations – Open5GS , Magma , OpenAirInterface , Athonet , SD-Core , NextEPC , srsRAN – and three 5G implementations – Open5GS, Magma, OpenAirInterface, according to researchers from the University of Florida and North Carolina State University. The findings have been detailed in a study titled "RANsacked: A Domain-Informed Approach for Fuzzing LTE and 5G RAN-Core Interfaces." The Released note is as given below : OpenSSH 3.5p1 Remote Root Exploit for FreeBSD Discovered and Exploited By Kingcope Year 2011 -- The last two days I have been investigating a vulnerability in OpenSSH affecting at least FreeBSD 4.9 and 4.11. These FreeBSD versions run OpenSSH 3.5p1 in the default install. The sshd banner for 4.11-RELEASE is "SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.5p1 FreeBSD-20060930". A working Remote Exploit which spawns a root shell remotely and previous to authentication was developed. The bug can be triggered both through ssh version 1 and ssh version 2 using a modified ssh client. Announcing the results of its experiment, Google says Quantum Computer is More than 100 Million times faster than a regular PC. Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of what appears to be a new strain of Shai Hulud on the npm registry with slight modifications from the previous wave observed last month. The npm package that embeds the novel Shai Hulud strain is " @vietmoney/react-big-calendar ," which was uploaded to npm back in March 2021 by a user named "hoquocdat." It was updated for the first time on December 28, 2025, to version 0.26.2. The package has been downloaded 698 times since its initial publication. The latest version has been downloaded 197 times. Aikido, which spotted the package, said it has not spotted any major spread or infections following the release of the package. "This suggests we may have caught the attackers testing their payload," security researcher Charlie Eriksen said . Over 500 different Android apps that have been downloaded more than 100 million times from the official Google Play Store found to be infected with a malicious ad library that secretly distributes spyware to users and can perform dangerous operations. Since 90 per cent of Android apps is free to download from Google Play Store, advertising is a key revenue source for app developers. For this, they integrate Android SDK Ads library in their apps, which usually does not affect an app's core functionality. But security researchers at mobile security firm Lookout have discovered a software development kit (SDK), dubbed Igexin, that has been found delivering spyware on Android devices. A late-stage candidate encryption algorithm that was meant to withstand decryption by powerful quantum computers in the future has been trivially cracked by using a computer running Intel Xeon CPU in an hour's time. The algorithm in question is SIKE — short for Supersingular Isogeny Key Encapsulation — which made it to the  fourth round  of the Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) standardization process initiated by the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). "Ran on a single core, the appended  Magma   code  breaks the Microsoft  SIKE challenges  $IKEp182 and $IKEp217 in about 4 minutes and 6 minutes, respectively," KU Leuven researchers Wouter Castryck and Thomas Decru  said  in a new paper. "A run on the SIKEp434 parameters, previously believed to meet NIST's quantum security level 1, took about 62 minutes, again on a single core."
