A bittersweet Christmas and New Year for users and fans of the most popular custom Android ROM, Cyanogen OS. Cyanogen that tried and failed to kill Google's Android operating system is now shutting down the custom services that it provides to phones that run its Cyanogen OS as we know it and the "nightly builds" of said OS on December 31st. Cyanogen came with an ambition to build better versions of the Android operating system than those created by Google itself, but following some technical and potential legal issues, the startup has decided to quit. The planned shutdown of Cyanogen was officially announced late Friday through a very brief blog post made by the company, saying "as part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen," it's shutting down all services and nightly builds on December 31. Millions of Xiaomi smartphones are vulnerable to a dangerous remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability that could grant attackers complete control of handsets. The vulnerability, now patched, exists in MIUI – Xiaomi's own implementation of the Android operating system – in versions prior to MIUI Global Stable 7.2 which is based on Android 6.0. The flaw, discovered by IBM X-Force researcher David Kaplan, potentially allows attackers with privileged network access, such as cafe Wi-Fi, to install malware remotely on the affected devices and fully compromise them. OnePlus One users might be waiting for the new Lollipop based ROM for their smartphones. The wait is over as the popular Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has finally released its own custom ROM --  OnePlus OxygenOS , which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Last month, the OnePlus announced the official release of its in-house OxygenOS to 'One' on or before March 27, but was failed to deliver the update due to a couple of security issues discovered in the update. The news disappointed many OnePlus customers, including me, who were looking forward to their Lollipop updates. However, the update is now ready for downloading from the OnePlus servers. Also, a full installation guide has been provided for customers who want to switch from the CyanogenMod 11S to the latest OxygenOS.
