Zero-Day Alert: Three Critical Ivanti CSA Vulnerabilities Actively Exploited

Zero-Day Alert: Three Critical Ivanti CSA Vulnerabilities Actively Exploited

Oct 08, 2024 Zero-Day / Vulnerability
Ivanti has warned that three new security vulnerabilities impacting its Cloud Service Appliance (CSA) have come under active exploitation in the wild. The zero-day flaws are being weaponized in conjunction with another flaw in CSA that the company patched last month, the Utah-based software services provider said. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an authenticated attacker with admin privileges to bypass restrictions, run arbitrary SQL statements, or obtain remote code execution. "We are aware of a limited number of customers running CSA 4.6 patch 518 and prior who have been exploited when CVE-2024-9379, CVE-2024-9380, or CVE-2024-9381 are chained with CVE-2024-8963," the company said . There is no evidence of exploitation against customer environments running CSA 5.0. A brief description of the three shortcomings is as follows - CVE-2024-9379 (CVSS score: 6.5) - SQL injection in the admin web console of Ivanti CSA before version 5.0.2 all...
Cybersecurity Researchers Warn of New Rust-Based Splinter Post-Exploitation Tool

Cybersecurity Researchers Warn of New Rust-Based Splinter Post-Exploitation Tool

Sep 25, 2024 Penetration Testing / Cyber Threat
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged the discovery of a new post-exploitation red team tool called Splinter in the wild. Palo Alto Networks Unit 42 shared its findings after it discovered the program on several customers' systems. "It has a standard set of features commonly found in penetration testing tools and its developer created it using the Rust programming language," Unit 42's Dominik Reichel said . "While Splinter is not as advanced as other well-known post-exploitation tools like Cobalt Strike, it still presents a potential threat to organizations if it is misused." Penetration testing tools are often used for red team operations to flag potential security issues in a company's network. However, such adversary simulation tools can also be weaponized by threat actors to their advantage.  Unit 42 said it has not detected any threat actor activity associated with the Splinter tool set. There is no information as yet on who developed the t...

Want to Grow Vulnerability Management into Exposure Management? Start Here!

Dec 05, 2024Attack Surface / Exposure Management
Vulnerability Management (VM) has long been a cornerstone of organizational cybersecurity. Nearly as old as the discipline of cybersecurity itself, it aims to help organizations identify and address potential security issues before they become serious problems. Yet, in recent years, the limitations of this approach have become increasingly evident.  At its core, Vulnerability Management processes remain essential for identifying and addressing weaknesses. But as time marches on and attack avenues evolve, this approach is beginning to show its age. In a recent report, How to Grow Vulnerability Management into Exposure Management (Gartner, How to Grow Vulnerability Management Into Exposure Management, 8 November 2024, Mitchell Schneider Et Al.), we believe Gartner® addresses this point precisely and demonstrates how organizations can – and must – shift from a vulnerability-centric strategy to a broader Exposure Management (EM) framework. We feel it's more than a worthwhile read an...

Ivanti Releases Urgent Security Updates for Endpoint Manager Vulnerabilities

Sep 11, 2024 Enterprise Security / Vulnerability
Ivanti has released software updates to address multiple security flaws impacting Endpoint Manager (EPM), including 10 critical vulnerabilities that could result in remote code execution. A brief description of the issues is as follows - CVE-2024-29847 (CVSS score: 10.0) - A deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability that allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to achieve code execution. CVE-2024-32840, CVE-2024-32842, CVE-2024-32843, CVE-2024-32845, CVE-2024-32846, CVE-2024-32848, CVE-2024-34779, CVE-2024-34783, and CVE-2024-34785 (CVSS scores: 9.1) - Multiple unspecified SQL injection vulnerabilities that allow a remote authenticated attacker with admin privileges to achieve code execution The flaws impact EPM versions 2024 and 2022 SU5 and earlier, with fixes made available in versions 2024 SU1 and 2022 SU6, respectively. Ivanti said it has found no evidence of the flaws being exploited in the wild as a zero-day, but it's essential that users update to the latest...

The challenge isn't just in choosing the right tools but in efficiently integrating and managing them to ensure seamless security coverage and operational efficiency...
YoroTrooper: Researchers Warn of Kazakhstan's Stealthy Cyber Espionage Group

YoroTrooper: Researchers Warn of Kazakhstan's Stealthy Cyber Espionage Group

Oct 26, 2023 Endpoint Protection / Malware
A relatively new threat actor known as  YoroTrooper  is likely made up of operators originating from Kazakhstan. The assessment, which comes from Cisco Talos, is based on their fluency in Kazakh and Russian, use of Tenge to pay for operating infrastructure, and very limited targeting of Kazakhstani entities, barring the government's Anti-Corruption Agency. "YoroTrooper attempts to obfuscate the origin of their operations, employing various tactics to make its malicious activity appear to emanate from Azerbaijan, such as using VPN exit nodes local to that region," security researchers Asheer Malhotra and Vitor Ventura  said . First documented by the cybersecurity company in March 2023, the adversary is  known to be active  since at least June 2022, singling out various state-owned entities in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Slovak cybersecurity firm ESET is tracking the activity under the name  SturgeonPhisher . YoroTrooper's at...
