⚡ Weekly Recap: VPN Exploits, Oracle's Silent Breach, ClickFix Surge and More

⚡ Weekly Recap: VPN Exploits, Oracle's Silent Breach, ClickFix Surge and More

Apr 07, 2025 Threat Intelligence / Cybersecurity
Today, every unpatched system, leaked password, and overlooked plugin is a doorway for attackers. Supply chains stretch deep into the code we trust, and malware hides not just in shady apps — but in job offers, hardware, and cloud services we rely on every day. Hackers don't need sophisticated exploits anymore. Sometimes, your credentials and a little social engineering are enough. This week, we trace how simple oversights turn into major breaches — and the silent threats most companies still underestimate. Let's dive in. ⚡ Threat of the Week UNC5221 Exploits New Ivanti Flaw to Drop Malware — The China-nexus cyber espionage group tracked as UNC5221 exploited a now-patched flaw in Ivanti Connect Secure, CVE-2025-22457 (CVSS score: 9.0), to deliver an in-memory dropper called TRAILBLAZE, a passive backdoor codenamed BRUSHFIRE, and the SPAWN malware suite. The vulnerability was originally patched by Ivanti on February 11, 2025, indicating that the threat actors studied the patch a...
Fake CAPTCHA PDFs Spread Lumma Stealer via Webflow, GoDaddy, and Other Domains

Fake CAPTCHA PDFs Spread Lumma Stealer via Webflow, GoDaddy, and Other Domains

Feb 28, 2025 Network Security / Malware
Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a widespread phishing campaign that uses fake CAPTCHA images shared via PDF documents hosted on Webflow's content delivery network (CDN) to deliver the Lumma stealer malware. Netskope Threat Labs said it discovered 260 unique domains hosting 5,000 phishing PDF files that redirect victims to malicious websites. "The attacker uses SEO to trick victims into visiting the pages by clicking on malicious search engine results," security researcher Jan Michael Alcantara said in a report shared with The Hacker News. "While most phishing pages focus on stealing credit card information, some PDF files contain fake CAPTCHAs that trick victims into executing malicious PowerShell commands, ultimately leading to the Lumma Stealer malware." The phishing campaign is estimated to have affected more than 1,150 organizations and more than 7,000 users since the second half of 2024, with the attacks primarily singling out victims in Nort...
Malicious npm Package Targets Atomic Wallet, Exodus Users by Swapping Crypto Addresses

Malicious npm Package Targets Atomic Wallet, Exodus Users by Swapping Crypto Addresses

Apr 10, 2025 Malware / Cryptocurrency
Threat actors are continuing to upload malicious packages to the npm registry so as to tamper with already-installed local versions of legitimate libraries and execute malicious code in what's seen as a sneakier attempt to stage a software supply chain attack. The newly discovered package, named pdf-to-office , masquerades as a utility for converting PDF files to Microsoft Word documents. But, in reality, it harbors features to inject malicious code into cryptocurrency wallet software associated with Atomic Wallet and Exodus. "Effectively, a victim who tried to send crypto funds to another crypto wallet would have the intended wallet destination address swapped out for one belonging to the malicious actor," ReversingLabs researcher Lucija Valentić said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The npm package in question was first published on March 24, 2025, and has received three updates since then but not before the previous versions were likely removed by the a...

3,000 YouTube Videos Exposed as Malware Traps in Massive Ghost Network Operation

3,000 YouTube Videos Exposed as Malware Traps in Massive Ghost Network Operation

Oct 24, 2025 Malware / Hacking News
A malicious network of YouTube accounts has been observed publishing and promoting videos that lead to malware downloads, essentially abusing the popularity and trust associated with the video hosting platform for propagating malicious payloads. Active since 2021, the network has published more than 3,000 malicious videos to date, with the volume of such videos tripling since the start of the year. It has been codenamed the YouTube Ghost Network by Check Point. Google has since stepped in to remove a majority of these videos. The campaign leverages hacked accounts and replaces their content with "malicious" videos that are centred around pirated software and Roblox game cheats to infect unsuspecting users searching for them with stealer malware. Some of these videos have racked up hundreds of thousands of views, ranging from 147,000 to 293,000. "This operation took advantage of trust signals, including views, likes, and comments, to make malicious content seem safe,...
Malicious NPM Packages Target Roblox Users with Data-Stealing Malware

Malicious NPM Packages Target Roblox Users with Data-Stealing Malware

Nov 08, 2024 Open Source / Malware
A new campaign has targeted the npm package repository with malicious JavaScript libraries that are designed to infect Roblox users with open-source stealer malware such as Skuld and Blank-Grabber . "This incident highlights the alarming ease with which threat actors can launch supply chain attacks by exploiting trust and human error within the open source ecosystem, and using readily available commodity malware, public platforms like GitHub for hosting malicious executables, and communication channels like Discord and Telegram for C2 operations to bypass traditional security measures," Socket security researcher Kirill Boychenko said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The list of malicious packages is as follows - node-dlls (77 downloads) ro.dll (74 downloads) autoadv (66 downloads) rolimons-api (107 downloads) It's worth pointing out that "node-dlls" is an attempt on part of the threat actor to masquerade as the legitimate node-dll packa...
Malicious Apps Disguised as Banks and Government Agencies Targeting Indian Android Users

Malicious Apps Disguised as Banks and Government Agencies Targeting Indian Android Users

Nov 21, 2023 Android Security / Cryptocurrency
Android smartphone users in India are the target of a new malware campaign that employs social engineering lures to install fraudulent apps that are capable of harvesting sensitive data. "Using social media platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, attackers are sending messages designed to lure users into installing a malicious app on their mobile device by impersonating legitimate organizations, such as banks, government services, and utilities," Microsoft threat intelligence researchers Abhishek Pustakala, Harshita Tripathi, and Shivang Desai  said  in a Monday analysis. The ultimate goal of the operation is to capture banking details, payment card information, account credentials, and other personal data. The attack chains involve sharing malicious APK files via social media messages sent on WhatsApp and Telegram by falsely presenting them as banking apps and inducing a sense of urgency by claiming that the targets' bank accounts will be blocked unless they update their pe...
