A Senior cryptography expert has claimed multiple issues with PGP email encryption - an open source end-to-end encryption  to secure email. Before continuing, I would like to clarify that covering this topic doesn't mean you should stop using PGP encryption , instead we are bringing to you what Security researcher has argued about its fundamental implications.  PGP or Pretty Good Privacy , a program written in 1991, uses symmetric public key cryptography and hashing that allow both Privacy and Security , as well as Authenticity . A group of researchers has developed a side-channel attack targeting virtual machines that could pose a threat to cloud computing environments. Side-channel attacks against cryptography keys have, until now, been limited to physical machines, this attack is the first such attack demonstrated on a symmetric multiprocessing system virtualized using a modern VMM (Xen). A side channel is a form of information leakage that arises as a byproduct of resource exposure, such as the sharing of memory caches. A side-channel attack exploits such leakage to steal secrets, such as cryptographic keys. " In this attack, the researchers were able to extract a private ElGamal decryption key from the target VM’s libgcrypt library; the target was running Gnu Privacy Guard. A new study has demonstrated that it's possible for passive network attackers to obtain private RSA host keys from a vulnerable SSH server by observing when naturally occurring computational faults that occur while the connection is being established. The Secure Shell (SSH) protocol is a method for securely transmitting commands and logging in to a computer over an unsecured network. Based on a client-server architecture, SSH uses cryptography to authenticate and encrypt connections between devices. A host key is a cryptographic key used for authenticating computers in the SSH protocol. Host keys are key pairs that are typically generated using public-key cryptosystems like RSA . Cybersecurity firm Expel, in an update shared on July 25, 2025, said it's retracting its findings about a phishing attack that it said leveraged cross-device sign-in to get around FIDO account protections despite being not in physical proximity to the authenticating client device. "The evidence does show the targeted user's credentials (username and password) being phished and that the attacker successfully passed password authentication for the targeted user," the company said . "It also shows the user received a QR code from the attacker. This QR code, when scanned by a mobile device, initiates a FIDO Cross-Device Authentication flow, which according to FIDO specification requires local proximity to the device which generated the QR code (the WebAuthn client).
