Ransomware Gangs Exploit Unpatched SimpleHelp Flaws to Target Victims with Double Extortion

Ransomware Gangs Exploit Unpatched SimpleHelp Flaws to Target Victims with Double Extortion

Jun 13, 2025 Vulnerability / Ransomware
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Thursday disclosed that ransomware actors are targeting unpatched SimpleHelp Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) instances to compromise customers of an unnamed utility billing software provider. "This incident reflects a broader pattern of ransomware actors targeting organizations through unpatched versions of SimpleHelp RMM since January 2025," the agency said in an advisory. Earlier this year, SimpleHelp disclosed a set of flaws (CVE-2024-57727, CVE-2024-57728, and CVE-2024-57726) that could result in information disclosure, privilege escalation, and remote code execution. The vulnerabilities have since come under repeated exploitation in the wild, including by ransomware groups like DragonForce, to breach targets of interest. Last month, Sophos revealed that a Managed Service Provider's SimpleHelp deployed was accessed by the threat actor using these flaws, and then leveraged it to pivot t...
WordPress Skimmers Evade Detection by Injecting Themselves into Database Tables

WordPress Skimmers Evade Detection by Injecting Themselves into Database Tables

Jan 13, 2025 Payment Security / Web Security
Cybersecurity researchers are warning of a new stealthy credit card skimmer campaign that targets WordPress e-commerce checkout pages by inserting malicious JavaScript code into a database table associated with the content management system (CMS). "This credit card skimmer malware targeting WordPress websites silently injects malicious JavaScript into database entries to steal sensitive payment details," Sucuri researcher Puja Srivastava said in a new analysis. "The malware activates specifically on checkout pages, either by hijacking existing payment fields or injecting a fake credit card form." The GoDaddy-owned website security company said it discovered the malware embedded into the WordPress wp_options table with the option "widget_block," thus allowing it to avoid detection by scanning tools and persist on compromised sites without attracting attention. In doing so, the idea is to insert the malicious JavaScript into an HTML block widget thr...

Fake Recruiter Emails Target CFOs Using Legit NetBird Tool Across 6 Global Regions

Jun 02, 2025 Identity Theft / Email Securi
Cybersecurity researchers have warned of a new spear-phishing campaign that uses a legitimate remote access tool called Netbird to target Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and financial executives at banks, energy companies, insurers, and investment firms across Europe, Africa, Canada, the Middle East, and South Asia.  "In what appears to be a multi-stage phishing operation, the attackers aimed to deploy NetBird, a legitimate wireguard-based remote access tool on the victim's computer," Trellix researcher Srini Seethapathy said in an analysis. The activity, first detected by the cybersecurity company in mid-May 2025, has not been attributed to a known threat actor or group. The starting point of the attack is a phishing email that impersonates a recruiter from Rothschild & Co. and claims to offer a "strategic opportunity" with the company. The email is designed to entice the recipients into opening a purported PDF attachment that, in reality, is a phishin...

Chinese DeepSeek-R1 AI Generates Insecure Code When Prompts Mention Tibet or Uyghurs

Chinese DeepSeek-R1 AI Generates Insecure Code When Prompts Mention Tibet or Uyghurs

Nov 24, 2025 Artificial Intelligence / Web Security
New research from CrowdStrike has revealed that DeepSeek's artificial intelligence (AI) reasoning model DeepSeek-R1 produces more security vulnerabilities in response to prompts that contain topics deemed politically sensitive by China. "We found that when DeepSeek-R1 receives prompts containing topics the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) likely considers politically sensitive, the likelihood of it producing code with severe security vulnerabilities increases by up to 50%," the cybersecurity company said . The Chinese AI company previously attracted national security concerns, leading to a ban in many countries. Its open-source DeepSeek-R1 model was also found to censor topics considered sensitive by the Chinese government, refusing to answer questions about the Great Firewall of China or the political status of Taiwan, among others. In a statement released earlier this month, Taiwan's National Security Bureau warned citizens to be vigilant when using Chinese-m...
Cyberattacks Targeting E-commerce Applications

Cyberattacks Targeting E-commerce Applications

Aug 28, 2023 Pentesting As A Service
Cyber attacks on e-commerce applications are a common trend in 2023 as e-commerce businesses become more omnichannel, they build and deploy increasingly more API interfaces, with threat actors constantly exploring more ways to exploit vulnerabilities. This is why regular testing and ongoing monitoring are necessary to fully protect web applications, identifying weaknesses so they can be mitigated quickly. In this article, we will discuss the recent Honda e-commerce platform attack, how it happened, and its impact on the business and its clients. In addition, to the importance of application security testing, we will also discuss the different areas of vulnerability testing and its various phases. Finally, we will provide details on how a long-term preventative solution such as  PTaaS  can protect e-commerce businesses and the differences between continuous testing (PTaaS) and standard pen testing. ThreatsDay Bulletin: DNS Poisoning Flaw, Supply-Chain Heist, Rust Malware Trick and New RATs Rising

Oct 30, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
The comfort zone in cybersecurity is gone. Attackers are scaling down, focusing tighter, and squeezing more value from fewer, high-impact targets. At the same time, defenders face growing blind spots — from spoofed messages to large-scale social engineering. This week’s findings show how that shrinking margin of safety is redrawing the threat landscape. Here’s what’s making headlines. Hijack Loader expands its reach in Latin America LATAM Targeted by PureHVNC Phishing emails containing SVG file attachments targeting Colombian, Spanish-speaking individuals with themes relating to the Attorney General's office of Colombia have been used to deliver PureHVNC RAT . "The emails entice the user to download an 'official document' from the judicial information system, which starts the infection chain of executing a Hijack Loader executable that leads to the PureHVNC Remote Access Trojan (RAT)," IBM X-Force said . The activity w...

⚡ Weekly Recap: APT Intrusions, AI Malware, Zero-Click Exploits, Browser Hijacks and More

Jun 02, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
If this had been a security drill, someone would’ve said it went too far. But it wasn’t a drill—it was real. The access? Everything looked normal. The tools? Easy to find. The detection? Came too late. This is how attacks happen now—quiet, convincing, and fast. Defenders aren’t just chasing hackers anymore—they’re struggling to trust what their systems are telling them. The problem isn’t too few alerts. It’s too many, with no clear meaning. One thing is clear: if your defense still waits for obvious signs, you’re not protecting anything. You’re just watching it happen. This recap highlights the moments that mattered—and why they’re worth your attention. ⚡ Threat of the Week APT41 Exploits Google Calendar for Command-and-Control — The Chinese state-sponsored threat actor known as APT41 deployed a malware called TOUGHPROGRESS that uses Google Calendar for command-and-control (C2). Google said it observed the spear-phishing attacks in October 2024 and that the malware was hosted on...
