Fake Recruiter Emails Target CFOs Using Legit NetBird Tool Across 6 Global Regions

Fake Recruiter Emails Target CFOs Using Legit NetBird Tool Across 6 Global Regions

Jun 02, 2025 Identity Theft / Email Securi
Cybersecurity researchers have warned of a new spear-phishing campaign that uses a legitimate remote access tool called Netbird to target Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and financial executives at banks, energy companies, insurers, and investment firms across Europe, Africa, Canada, the Middle East, and South Asia.  "In what appears to be a multi-stage phishing operation, the attackers aimed to deploy NetBird, a legitimate wireguard-based remote access tool on the victim's computer," Trellix researcher Srini Seethapathy said in an analysis. The activity, first detected by the cybersecurity company in mid-May 2025, has not been attributed to a known threat actor or group. The starting point of the attack is a phishing email that impersonates a recruiter from Rothschild & Co. and claims to offer a "strategic opportunity" with the company. The email is designed to entice the recipients into opening a purported PDF attachment that, in reality, is a phishin...

Exposing 25 Facebook phishing websites Geeks at Security Web-Center Found 25 Facebook and list them. Sometimes spammers create fake pages that look like the Facebook login page. When you enter your email and password on one of these pages, the spammer records your information and keeps it. This is called phishing . The fake sites, like the one below, use a similar URL to Facebook.com in an attempt to steal people's login information. The people behind these websites, then use the information to access victims' accounts and send messages to their friends, further propagating the illegitimate sites. In some instances, the phishers make money by exploiting the personal information they've obtained. This Phishing Attack is Almost Impossible to Detect On Chrome, Firefox and Opera

Apr 17, 2017
A Chinese infosec researcher has reported about an "almost impossible to detect" phishing attack that can be used to trick even the most careful users on the Internet. He warned, hackers can use a known vulnerability in the Chrome, Firefox and Opera web browsers to display their fake domain names as the websites of legitimate services, like Apple, Google, or Amazon to steal login or financial credentials and other sensitive information from users. What is the best defence against phishing attack? Generally, checking the address bar after the page has loaded and if it is being served over a valid HTTPS connection. Right? Okay, then before going to the in-depth details, first have a look at this demo web page  ( note: you may experience downtime due to high traffic on demo server ), set up by Chinese security researcher Xudong Zheng, who discovered the attack. " It becomes impossible to identify the site as fraudulent without carefully inspecting the site's URL o...

BEWARE – New 'Creative' Phishing Attack You Really Should Pay Attention To

BEWARE – New 'Creative' Phishing Attack You Really Should Pay Attention To

Mar 11, 2019
A cybersecurity researcher who last month warned of a creative phishing campaign has now shared details of a new but similar attack campaign with The Hacker News that has specifically been designed to target mobile users. Just like the previous campaign, the new phishing attack is also based on the idea that a malicious web page could mimic look and feel of the browser window to trick even the most vigilant users into giving away their login credentials to attackers. Antoine Vincent Jebara , co-founder and CEO of password managing software Myki , shared a new video with The Hacker News, demonstrating how attackers can reproduce native iOS behavior, browser URL bar and tab switching animation effects of Safari in a very realistic manner on a web-page to present fake login pages, without actually opening or redirecting users to a new tab. New Phishing Attack Mimics Mobile Browser Animation and Design As you can see in the video, a malicious website that looks like Airbnb pro...

Phishing Campaign Uses UpCrypter in Fake Voicemail Emails to Deliver RAT Payloads

Phishing Campaign Uses UpCrypter in Fake Voicemail Emails to Deliver RAT Payloads

Aug 25, 2025 Malware / Cloud Security
Cybersecurity researchers have flagged a new phishing campaign that's using fake voicemails and purchase orders to deliver a malware loader called UpCrypter . The campaign leverages "carefully crafted emails to deliver malicious URLs linked to convincing phishing pages," Fortinet FortiGuard Labs researcher Cara Lin said . "These pages are designed to entice recipients into downloading JavaScript files that act as droppers for UpCrypter." Attacks propagating the malware have been primarily targeting manufacturing, technology, healthcare, construction, and retail/hospitality sectors across the world since the start of August 2025. The vast majority of the infections have been observed in Austria, Belarus, Canada, Egypt, India, and Pakistan, among others. UpCrypter functions as a conduit for various remote access tools (RATs), such as PureHVNC RAT , DCRat (aka DarkCrystal RAT), and Babylon RAT , each of which enable an attacker to take full control of compromi...

Microsoft, Meta, and DOJ Disrupt Global Cybercrime and Fraudulent Networks

Nov 22, 2024 Financial Fraud / Cybercrime
Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) have announced independent actions to tackle cybercrime and disrupt services that enable scams, fraud, and phishing attacks. To that end, Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) said it seized 240 fraudulent websites associated with an Egypt-based cybercrime facilitator named Abanoub Nady (aka MRxC0DER and mrxc0derii), who advertised for sale a phishing kit called ONNX. Nady's criminal operation is said to date as far back as 2017. "Numerous cybercriminal and online threat actors purchased these kits and used them in widespread phishing campaigns to bypass additional security measures and break into Microsoft customer accounts," Microsoft DCU's Steven Masada said . "While all sectors are at risk, the financial services industry has been heavily targeted given the sensitive data and transactions they handle. In these instances, a successful phish can have devastating real-world consequences...

WARNING – New Phishing Attack That Even Most Vigilant Users Could Fall For

Feb 15, 2019
How do you check if a website asking for your credentials is fake or legit to log in? By checking if the URL is correct? By checking if the website address is not a homograph? By checking if the site is using HTTPS? Or using software or browser extensions that detect phishing domains? Well, if you, like most Internet users, are also relying on above basic security practices to spot if that " Facebook.com " or " Google.com " you have been served with is fake or not, you may still fall victim to a newly discovered creative phishing attack and end up in giving away your passwords to hackers. Antoine Vincent Jebara , co-founder and CEO of password managing software Myki , told The Hacker News that his team recently spotted a new phishing attack campaign "that even the most vigilant users could fall for." Vincent found that cybercriminals are distributing links to blogs and services that prompt visitors to first " login using Facebook acco...

RaccoonO365 Phishing Network Dismantled as Microsoft, Cloudflare Take Down 338 Domains

Sep 17, 2025 Cybercrime / AI Security
Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit said it teamed up with Cloudflare to coordinate the seizure of 338 domains used by RaccoonO365 , a financially motivated threat group that was behind a phishing-as-a-service (Phaas) toolkit used to steal more than 5,000 Microsoft 365 credentials from 94 countries since July 2024. "Using a court order granted by the Southern District of New York, the DCU seized 338 websites associated with the popular service, disrupting the operation's technical infrastructure and cutting off criminals' access to victims," Steven Masada, assistant general counsel at DCU, said . "This case shows that cybercriminals don't need to be sophisticated to cause widespread harm – simple tools like RaccoonO365 make cybercrime accessible to virtually anyone, putting millions of users at risk." The initial phase of the Cloudflare takedown commenced on September 2, 2025, with additional actions occurring on September 3 and September 4. This in...
