New APIs Suggest WPA3 Wi-Fi Security Support Coming Soon to Windows 10

New APIs Suggest WPA3 Wi-Fi Security Support Coming Soon to Windows 10
Nov 12, 2018
Windows 10 users don't have to wait much longer for the support of latest WPA3 Wi-Fi security standard , a new blog post from Microsoft apparently revealed. The third version of Wi-Fi Protected Access, in-short WPA3, is the next generation of the wireless security protocol that has been designed to make it harder for attackers to hack WiFi password . WPA3 was officially launched earlier this year, but the new WiFi security standard won't arrive overnight. Most device manufacturers could take months to get their new routers and networking devices certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance to support WPA3. Meanwhile, technology providers have already started working on software and firmware updates to support the new WPA3 standard, including Microsoft. WPA3-Personal (SAE) Support in Windows 10 Though Microsoft hasn't yet officially announced WPA3 support for its Windows 10 operating system, new APIs introduced in the newly released Windows 10 SDK Preview build 18272 , as ma

KRACK Demo: Critical Key Reinstallation Attack Against Widely-Used WPA2 Wi-Fi Protocol

KRACK Demo: Critical Key Reinstallation Attack Against Widely-Used WPA2 Wi-Fi Protocol
Oct 16, 2017
Do you think your wireless network is secure because you're using WPA2 encryption? If yes, think again! Security researchers have discovered several key management vulnerabilities in the core of Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) protocol that could allow an attacker to hack into your Wi-Fi network and eavesdrop on the Internet communications. WPA2 is a 13-year-old WiFi authentication scheme widely used to secure WiFi connections, but the standard has been compromised, impacting almost all Wi-Fi devices—including in our homes and businesses, along with the networking companies that build them. Dubbed KRACK — Key Reinstallation Attack —the proof-of-concept attack demonstrated by a team of researchers works against all modern protected Wi-Fi networks and can be abused to steal sensitive information like credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, and photos. Since the weaknesses reside in the Wi-Fi standard itself, and not in the implementations or any individua

Code Keepers: Mastering Non-Human Identity Management

Code Keepers: Mastering Non-Human Identity Management
Apr 12, 2024DevSecOps / Identity Management
Identities now transcend human boundaries. Within each line of code and every API call lies a non-human identity. These entities act as programmatic access keys, enabling authentication and facilitating interactions among systems and services, which are essential for every API call, database query, or storage account access. As we depend on multi-factor authentication and passwords to safeguard human identities, a pressing question arises: How do we guarantee the security and integrity of these non-human counterparts? How do we authenticate, authorize, and regulate access for entities devoid of life but crucial for the functioning of critical systems? Let's break it down. The challenge Imagine a cloud-native application as a bustling metropolis of tiny neighborhoods known as microservices, all neatly packed into containers. These microservices function akin to diligent worker bees, each diligently performing its designated task, be it processing data, verifying credentials, or

WiFiPhisher — Automated Phishing Attacks Against Wi-Fi Networks

WiFiPhisher — Automated Phishing Attacks Against Wi-Fi Networks
Jan 05, 2015
A Greek security researcher, named George Chatzisofroniou , has developed a WiFi social engineering tool that is designed to steal credentials from users of secure Wi-Fi networks. The tool, dubbed WiFiPhisher , has been released on the software development website GitHub on Sunday and is freely available for users. "It's a social engineering attack that does not use brute forcing in contrast to other methods. It's an easy way to get WPA passwords ," said George Chatzisofroniou. However, there are several hacking tools available on the Internet that can hack a secure Wi-Fi network, but this tool automates multiple Wi-Fi hacking techniques which make it slightly different from others. WiFiPhisher tool uses "Evil Twin" attack scenario. Same as Evil Twin, the tool first creates a phony wireless Access Point (AP) masquerade itself as the legitimate Wi-Fi AP. It then directs a denial of service (DoS) attack against the legitimate Wi-Fi access poi
