Cisco ASA and FTD Flaw Exploited in the Wild Can Trigger Remote DoS

Cisco ASA and FTD Flaw Exploited in the Wild Can Trigger Remote DoS

Aug 12, 2026 Network Security / Vulnerability
Cisco has warned that a new vulnerability impacting Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software has been exploited in the wild. The high-severity flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-20349 (CVSS score: 8.6), is a case of insufficient error checking when processing HTTP requests that could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to trigger a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. "An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted HTTP request to the Remote Access SSL VPN service on an affected device," Cisco said in a Tuesday advisory. "A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition." The security defects impact devices running a vulnerable version of Secure Firewall ASA Software or Cisco Secure FTD Software and have one or more of the vulnerable configurations listed below - IKEv2 Remote Access VPN (with client services...
Microsoft Patches 398 Flaws Including a Windows Driver Zero-Day Under Active Attack

Microsoft Patches 398 Flaws Including a Windows Driver Zero-Day Under Active Attack

Aug 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Windows Security
Microsoft released its monthly security updates on Tuesday, and one of the flaws it closed is already being used in attacks. The bug sits in a core Windows kernel driver that handles network socket operations. An attacker with code already running on a machine can use it to escalate to SYSTEM. That patch goes out first. The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-68820 (CVSS score: 7.0) and is the only one in this month's release Microsoft flags as under active exploitation. Exploitation depends on triggering a race condition in the driver. Microsoft has not publicly attributed the exploitation. Check Point Research says Lazarus used the zero-day in its Operation Dream Job campaign. Four other flaws in the release need nothing at all from the victim: no account, no password, no click. They affect Windows DNS Server, Windows Deployment Services, Microsoft's implementation of the QUIC transport protocol, and High Performance Computing (HPC) Pack, and each carries a CVSS score of 9.8....
Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Researchers Disclose AI-Assisted SharePoint Exploit Chain Reaching Unauthenticated RCE

Aug 11, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Security researchers found a way to enter Microsoft SharePoint servers as any user, including an administrator, with no valid account. A significant part of the work that found it was done through an AI agent. The flaw, tracked as  CVE-2026-55040  (CVSS 9.1), affects SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server 2019, and SharePoint Server 2016. Microsoft's affected-product list covers only those three on-premises editions, and SharePoint Online is not among them. It lets a remote unauthenticated attacker assume a chosen user's identity. The attack has one prerequisite: the intruder has to know which account they want to become, either by its Active Directory security identifier (SID) or its user principal name (UPN), which is formatted like an email address. Rapid7 then chained the bypass to a separate remote code execution flaw and ran code on the server with no credentials. Microsoft and the firm disclosed that second flaw on August 11 as  CVE-2026...

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Friday added a critical-severity security flaw impacting Progress Kemp LoadMaster to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, following reports of active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-8037 (CVSS score: 9.6), is a command injection flaw that could be weaponized to achieve arbitrary code execution on susceptible devices. "Progress LoadMaster contains a command injection vulnerability that allows an un-authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the LoadMaster appliance by exploiting unsanitized input in multiple command endpoints," CISA said . In an analysis published in June 2026, watchTowr Labs described the issue as present in a function named "escape_quotes()" within the load balancer application and that it stemmed from improper handling of user-supplied input, ultimately enabling command injection. Successful exploitation of the...

Critical Gitea Flaw Let Unauthenticated Attackers Read Server Files via Org-Mode Markup

Critical Gitea Flaw Let Unauthenticated Attackers Read Server Files via Org-Mode Markup

Aug 05, 2026 Vulnerability / DevOps
An unauthenticated attacker can read any file the service account can access on Gitea , the self-hosted Git platform, in versions 1.22.1 through 1.27.0. No login, no repository write access. A public repository and crafted Org-mode markup are enough. The flaw is fixed in Gitea 1.27.1. The file-read flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-59774 , rated Critical with a CVSS score of 9.8, and received its formal advisory on August 2. Gitea 1.27.1 also patches CVE-2026-60004 , a separate remote code execution bug covered in a prior THN report . Gitea said Cloud instances would be upgraded automatically during the release maintenance window. Self-hosted administrators should move to 1.27.1 immediately. The file-read bug is not direct one-request remote code execution. Gitea says it can become command execution if an attacker reads app.ini , extracts INTERNAL_TOKEN , injects a Git hook through the internal logger, and triggers that hook during an anonymous clone. That chain is described in Gite...

Three Recent Chrome Releases Fix 1,442 Flaws, More Than Prior 23 Updates Combined

Jul 31, 2026 Vulnerability / Browser Security
Google on Thursday announced that it fixed a whopping 1,072 security bugs in Chrome versions 149 and 150, surpassing the total number of flaws the company fixed across the prior 23 milestones combined. Both versions were released last month. In its latest patch for Chrome 151, released Wednesday, the tech giant resolved 370 flaws , out of which 349 were reported by Google itself. Seven of the vulnerabilities have been marked critical in severity. The development comes amid an exponential surge in vulnerability discovery, mainly fueled by the advent of large language models (LLMs) that have accelerated the process, leading to an unprecedented spike in new bug reports, so much so that issues are being flagged at a faster rate than companies can fix them. According to statistics shared by the U.S. National Vulnerabilities Database (NVD), 46,872 flaws have been recorded so far in 2026, nearing the 49,920 vulnerabilities reported for the entirety of 2025.

Public PoC Released for Exploited Check Point SmartConsole Authentication Bypass

Jul 29, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Cybersecurity researchers have shared additional technical details about a recently patched critical security flaw impacting Check Point Security Management Server and Multi-Domain Security Management Server (MDS) that has come under active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-16232 (CVSS score: 9.3), is an authentication bypass in the SmartConsole login process that allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to obtain an application login token and use it to authenticate with full administrative privileges. "By leveraging CVE-2026-16232, an unauthenticated attacker can obtain an application login token, use this token to log in through SmartConsole with full administrator privileges, and modify the security policy or security configuration," Rapid7 said . Successful exploitation requires an attacker to have network access to the Management Server and a configuration that does not restrict Trusted Clients. Check Point has disclosed that it...
Researcher Says AI Helped Develop Linux Traffic-Control Race Into Root Exploit

Researcher Says AI Helped Develop Linux Traffic-Control Race Into Root Exploit

Jul 28, 2026 Vulnerability / Linux
STAR Labs has published a Linux kernel exploit that turns an ordinary local user into root on the CentOS Stream 9 build it targeted. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-53264 (CVSS score: 7.8), is a use-after-free race in the kernel's network traffic-control subsystem. Researcher Lee Jia Jie said artificial intelligence (AI) helped him find the bug and speed up exploit development. This is local privilege escalation, not remote code execution, so an attacker needs a foothold on the machine before any of it applies. The demonstrated exploit also requires unprivileged user namespaces, the CONFIG_NET_ACT_GACT and CONFIG_NET_CLS_FLOWER kernel options, and a kernel-specific return-oriented programming (ROP) chain containing hardcoded offsets. Those conditions narrow the immediate exposure, but full exploit source code is now public. The upstream fix landed on June 1, 2026, and has since been backported to several stable kernel branches. The Linux CNA record lists vulnerable ranges begi...

Fastjson 1.x RCE Vulnerability Targeted in Attacks With No Patched Available

Jul 25, 2026 Vulnerability / Application Security
Security firms ThreatBook and Imperva say attackers are targeting a critical flaw in Fastjson, Alibaba's JSON library for Java. In affected Spring Boot applications, a malicious JSON request can execute code without authentication, with the privileges of the Java process. Tracked as CVE-2026-16723 , the vulnerability carries an Alibaba-assigned CVSS score of 9.0. The confirmed chain requires Fastjson 1.2.68 through 1.2.83, a Spring Boot executable fat-JAR, a network-reachable path that sends attacker-controlled JSON to an affected parser, and SafeMode left at its disabled default. AutoType can remain disabled, and no classpath gadget is required. As of July 25, Alibaba had not released a fixed Fastjson 1.x version. Organizations that cannot migrate immediately should enable SafeMode with -Dfastjson.parser.safeMode=true or use com.alibaba:fastjson:1.2.83_noneautotype . Alibaba lists migration to Fastjson2 as the long-term fix. Alibaba published its advisory on July 21 follo...

Ubuntu snap-confine Flaw Could Give Local Users Root on Default Desktop Installs

Jul 22, 2026 Linux / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a new local privilege escalation (LPE) vulnerability in snap-confine that an unprivileged user can trigger to obtain root access and gain complete control of a target environment. The high-severity flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-8933 (CVSS score: 7.8), impacts default installations of Ubuntu Desktop 24.04, 25.10, and 26.04. The disclosure comes as 442 security flaws in Linux have been publicized over the past three days. "The issue stems from a security hardening change that inadvertently introduced a race condition during sandbox initialization," Saeed Abbasi, head of Threat Research Unit (TRU) and director of product at Qualys, said. Snap-confine is a program used internally by snapd to construct the execution environment for snap applications. Snapd is the background service or daemon that manages snap packages on Linux systems. Snaps are nothing but a software packaging format devised by Canonical that allows an app...
N-day is Becoming N-Hour. Patching Faster Won't Save You.

N-day is Becoming N-Hour. Patching Faster Won't Save You.

Jul 21, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Browser Security
Every patch is a confession. The moment a vendor ships a security fix, the diff between the old code and the new code tells anyone watching exactly what was broken and where. Turn that diff back into a working exploit, and you can hit every system that hasn't updated yet. This is N-day exploitation, and it's always been a race: the vendor patches, the clock starts, and defenders try to deploy before an attacker finishes reverse-engineering the fix. For the last thirty-odd years, defenders usually won that race. Reverse-engineering a patch into a reliable exploit was slow, specialized work - usually requiring weeks of expert-level effort. Historically, the gap between a patch and a working public exploit spanned weeks, often months. The traditional playbook assumed you had at least a few weeks. You don't anymore. Not even close. Reverse-engineering a patch used to take weeks. Mythos does it in an hour. Anthropic's red team measured exactly that. Given not...
New 7-Zip Vulnerability Could Let Crafted XZ Archives Run Code During Extraction

New 7-Zip Vulnerability Could Let Crafted XZ Archives Run Code During Extraction

Jul 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Endpoint Security
Opening a crafted XZ archive in 7-Zip could let an attacker run code on the machine. The flaw, CVE-2026-14266 , is a heap-based buffer overflow in how the archiver processes XZ chunked data, and Trend Micro's Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) detailed it on July 15. A fix shipped on June 25 in 7-Zip 26.02 . The overflow lets an attacker "execute code in the context of the current process," per the advisory. The code runs with the token 7-Zip itself holds and gains no privileges of its own. On Windows, a normally launched 7-Zip runs under a filtered standard-user token even on an administrator account, so the attacker inherits those limited rights unless the program was started elevated. The bug came in from Landon Peng of Lunbun LLC, who reported it to 7-Zip on June 5. ZDI rates the flaw 7.0, or High, not the Critical several write-ups reached for. The full CVSS 3.0 vector is AV:L/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H . The AV:L makes it a local attack vector, not a network-re...
New wp2shell WordPress Core Flaw Lets Unauthenticated Attackers Run Code

New wp2shell WordPress Core Flaw Lets Unauthenticated Attackers Run Code

Jul 17, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Updated July 18, 2026: the two flaws now carry CVE IDs, the full mechanism has been published, a persistent-object-cache condition has surfaced, and a working proof-of-concept is public. The story below reflects all of it. An anonymous HTTP request can run code on a WordPress site. The bug is in core, so a bare install with zero plugins is exploitable. Every 6.9 and 7.0 site was in range until Friday, when WordPress shipped 6.9.5 and 7.0.2 and enabled what it calls forced updates through its auto-update system. wp2shell is two bugs, not one, and both now carry CVE IDs. CVE-2026-63030 is the REST API batch-route confusion; CVE-2026-60137 is a SQL injection in WordPress core. Chained, they take an anonymous request all the way to code execution. Since Friday, the full mechanism has been published, and a working proof-of-concept has gone up on GitHub. Adam Kues at Assetnote, Searchlight Cyber's attack surface management arm, found the batch-route bug and reported it throug...

Two SonicWall SMA 1000 Zero-Days Exploited, One Could Enable Admin Commands

Jul 15, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
SonicWall has warned of active exploitation of two zero-day vulnerabilities impacting Secure Mobile Access (SMA) 1000 series appliances, one of which could be exploited to achieve arbitrary command execution. The vulnerabilities are listed below - CVE-2026-15409 (CVSS score: 10.0) - A Server-side request forgery (SSRF) vulnerability that a remote unauthenticated attacker could exploit to potentially cause the appliance to make requests to an unintended location. CVE-2026-15410 (CVSS score: 7.2) - A post-authentication code injection vulnerability rooted in the Appliance Management Console (AMC) that a remote authenticated attacker could exploit to execute arbitrary operating system commands as administrator under certain conditions. SonicWall said it has "investigated multiple cases indicating the active exploitation of the vulnerabilities," urging customers to apply the fixes as soon as possible. The patches are available in the following versions - 1...
Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Microsoft Patches Record 622 Flaws, Including Two Zero-Days Under Active Attack

Jul 14, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
Microsoft shipped its largest Patch Tuesday on record today, and two of the fixes close holes that attackers are already exploiting. The release covers 622 of Microsoft's own CVEs by its  Security Update Guide  count, more than triple  June's previous high of around 200 . Those two live bugs are the ones to grab first. Microsoft credits incident responders for both. Both are elevation-of-privilege flaws in identity and collaboration infrastructure: CVE-2026-56164 in on-premises SharePoint Server and CVE-2026-56155 in Active Directory Federation Services. Neither is one of the splashy remote code execution criticals. They are privilege bugs in two systems that matter more than their scores suggest: the company document store, and the box that signs its logins. The two zero-days to patch first CVE-2026-56164 , a SharePoint Server flaw Microsoft says is being exploited in attacks, lets an unauthenticated attacker escalate privileges over the ne...
Unpatched XRING Flaw in XQUIC Lets Remote Clients Crash HTTP/3 Servers

Unpatched XRING Flaw in XQUIC Lets Remote Clients Crash HTTP/3 Servers

Jul 10, 2026 Vulnerability / Server Security
A single wrong variable on one line in XQUIC, Alibaba's QUIC and HTTP/3 library, lets any remote client crash the server with a short burst of completely legal traffic. There is no patch. FoxIO researcher Sébastien Féry  disclosed the flaw on July 8  and nicknamed it XRING. He says it needs no login and no malformed packets: about 260 bytes of ordinary QPACK traffic takes the server process down. XQUIC is open-source, so the risk is not Alibaba's alone: any server that embeds it and serves HTTP/3 with the default QPACK settings is exposed. That includes Tengine, Alibaba's Nginx-based web server, which FoxIO says fronts the company's cloud and CDN on sites including Taobao and Alipay. Every release through v1.9.4, the latest, is affected. There is no fixed release and no CVE as of July 10. Until a fix ships, operators can set SETTINGS_QPACK_MAX_TABLE_CAPACITY to 0, which turns off QPACK's dynamic table, or drop HTTP/3 support entirely. The bug lives in how H...
Summer of Clearinghouses

Summer of Clearinghouses

Jul 09, 2026 AI Security / Application Security
Everyone seems to have announced a clearinghouse over the past few weeks. We did too. Ours is called Athena , and the main thing that sets it apart is that it was already real and running when we announced it — built quietly months earlier, heads down, taking findings and shipping fixes, because customers kept asking us to. We only announced it now because everyone else started announcing theirs, and staying quiet started to look like something it wasn't. The others arrived louder and, as far as anyone outside the press releases could tell, didn't exist yet. Here's the part none of those announcements will tell you: the clearinghouse is the least important thing to build. When a project we'd deliberately kept private, a  five-billion-dollar press release , and  the White House all reach for the same word inside a few weeks, that's not a trend. Trends are optional. This is the shape of a problem changing under everyone at once. So let me explain why these thin...
