New Attacks Against 4G, 5G Mobile Networks Re-Enable IMSI Catchers

New Attacks Against 4G, 5G Mobile Networks Re-Enable IMSI Catchers

At NDSS Symposium 2019, a group of university researchers yesterday revealed newly discovered cellular network vulnerabilities that impact both 4G and 5G LTE protocols. According to a paper published by the researchers, " Privacy Attacks to the 4G and 5G Cellular Paging Protocols Using Side Channel Information, " the new attacks could allow remote attackers to bypass security protections implemented in 4G and 5G, re-enabling IMSI catching devices like " Stingrays " to intercept users' phone calls and track their location. Here below, we have described all the three attacks, how they work, what are their impacts, and why you should be concerned about these attacks. ToRPEDO Attack — Location Verification, DoS, Inject Fake Alerts Short for "TRacking via Paging mEssage DistributiOn," TorPEDO is the most concerning attack that leverages paging protocol, allowing remote attackers to verify a victim device's location, inject fabricated paging mess

Elisa , one of the biggest Finnish Internet Service Providers (ISP), claims to have achieved a new world record for 4G network with 1.9 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) data download speed using Huawei technology. Currently, Sweden and the United Kingdom have been crowned as the top countries across the world when it comes to fastest mobile 3G and 4G speeds, but now Finland is also working hard to give them a tough competition. Elisa set this record-breaking benchmark with the help of technology provided by Chinese telecom giant Huawei that could allow real-world mobile 4G users to download a Blu-ray film in just 40-45 seconds. 4G and 5G Technology: The future of Mobile Networks In February last year, a team of researchers from the University of Surrey managed to achieve a record-breaking speed of 1 Terabit per second (1Tbps) during a test of 5G wireless data connections, which is over 500 times faster than Elisa's 4G speed. While, in June last year, the International Tele

Would you enjoy If Drones hovering outside your window or above your head, just because it is offering High-Speed Internet Service? Most Americans may simply prefer to "Shoot Down" unwelcome items. Well, Google is working on a similar secret project, codenamed Project Skybender , to beam faster internet service, as fast as 5G , from the air. Google is currently testing multiple prototypes of Solar-powered Internet Drones in the New Mexico desert, as per some documents obtained by the Guardian under public records laws. To ensure security, Google is also said to have installed its own dedicated flight control centre near Spaceflight Operations Center at the Spaceport America facility in the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Google's Project SkyBender Drones are equipped with millimetre-wave radio transmissions to deliver next generation 5G wireless Internet, up to 40 times faster than 4G LTE systems. While many of us are battling with the slow data access and still awaiting the roll-out of 4G Networks, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is already looking forward to the next generation of telecommunication network technology. Yes folks, we are talking about the future 5G standard for mobile networking . Since 5G standard is currently in the definition stage, the ITU has announced a timeline for a name, demonstration, and distribution. During a conference held in San Diego from June 10th to 18th, 12 member delegation sat to draw up the specifications to be established for the upcoming 5G network standard and to set a roadmap as to how the objective will be achieved. What's the Standard Data Speed for 5G Network? When I talk about data speed, the ITU has decided that 5G compliant networks will have to provide a peak data speed of up to 20Gbps , which means it's 20 times faster than the peak speed specification (1Gbps) of 4G LTE network

New Generations usually bring new base technologies, more network capacity for more data per user, and high speed Internet service, for which Internet service providers usually advertise. However, it is believed that the fifth generation (5G Technology) of mobile network will be beyond our thoughts. 1TBPS OVER 5G Security researchers from the University of Surrey have just achieved Record-Breaking data speeds during a recent test of 5G wireless data connections, achieving an incredible One Terabit per second (1Tbps) speed – many thousands of times faster than the existing 4G connections. After 4G, 5G is the next generation of mobile communication technology that aims at offering far greater capacity and be faster, more energy-efficient and more cost-effective than anything that has seen before. The boffins say 5G will be different – very different. The 5G test was conducted at the university's 5G Innovation Centre ( 5GIC ), which was founded by a host of telecoms
