U.S. Seizes Domains Used by AI-Powered Russian Bot Farm for Disinformation

U.S. Seizes Domains Used by AI-Powered Russian Bot Farm for Disinformation

Jul 12, 2024 Disinformation / Artificial Intelligence
The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) said it seized two internet domains and searched nearly 1,000 social media accounts that Russian threat actors allegedly used to covertly spread pro-Kremlin disinformation in the country and abroad on a large scale. "The social media bot farm used elements of AI to create fictitious social media profiles — often purporting to belong to individuals in the United States — which the operators then used to promote messages in support of Russian government objectives," the DoJ said . The bot network, comprising 968 accounts on X, is said to be part of an elaborate scheme hatched by an employee of Russian state-owned media outlet RT (formerly Russia Today), sponsored by the Kremlin, and aided by an officer of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB), who created and led an unnamed private intelligence organization. The developmental efforts for the bot farm began in April 2022 when the individuals procured online infrastructure while anon...

DIGITAL INDIA – A Flagship Programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society as well as a knowledge economy. Yes, I am a proud Indian, and I support Digital India too, but I am absolutely not supporting Facebook's Internet.org Project. Yesterday, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met at Facebook's Headquarter. The Historic meeting between PM Modi and Zuckerberg went great. Hours after this event, Facebook launched a tool that allows you to change your Facebook profile picture to a Tricolor shade of Indian Flag, just like few months back 30 Millions Facebook users had changed their Profile picture with Rainbow color to support "Gay Marriages." The Latest Tool with URL https://fb.com/supportdigitalindia is to support the "Digital India" campaign by the PM Modi Government. Ever since Zuckerberg changed his Facebook profile picture to an Indian ...
Google Launches New Maps Feature to Help Businesses Report Review-Based Extortion Attempts

Google Launches New Maps Feature to Help Businesses Report Review-Based Extortion Attempts

Nov 07, 2025 Data Protection / Malware
Google on Thursday said it's rolling out a dedicated form to allow businesses listed on Google Maps to report extortion attempts made by threat actors who post inauthentic bad reviews on the platform and demand ransoms to remove the negative comments. The approach is designed to tackle a common practice called review bombing , where online users intentionally post negative user reviews in an attempt to harm a product, a service, or a business. "Bad actors try to circumvent our moderation systems and flood a business's profile with fake one-star reviews," Laurie Richardson, vice president of Trust & Safety at Google, said . "Following this initial attack, the scammers directly contact the business owner, often through third-party messaging apps, to demand payment." The threat actors warn of further escalation should the victim fail to pay the fee, risking potential damage to their public rating and reputation. These ploys are seen as an attempt to coe...

Real Identity of Hacker Who Sold LinkedIn, Dropbox Databases Revealed

Nov 21, 2018
The real identity of Tessa88—the notorious hacker tied to several high-profile cyber attacks including the LinkedIn , DropBox and MySpace mega breaches—has been revealed as Maksim Vladimirovich Donakov (Максим Владимирович Донаков), a resident of Penza, Russian Federation. In early 2016, a hacker with pseudonym Tessa88 emerged online offering stolen databases from some of the biggest social media websites in the world, including LinkedIn, MySpace, VKontakte (vk.com), Dropbox, Rambler , and Twitter , for sale in various underground hacking forums. The stolen data, taken years ago from several social media sites, included more than half a billion username and password combinations, which were then used in phishing, account takeover, and other cyber attacks. Though Tessa88's profile was active for a few months between February and May 2016, the OPSEC analysis revealed that the same person was involved in various cybercriminal activities since as early as 2012 under different...

ThreatsDay Bulletin: DNS Poisoning Flaw, Supply-Chain Heist, Rust Malware Trick and New RATs Rising

Oct 30, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
The comfort zone in cybersecurity is gone. Attackers are scaling down, focusing tighter, and squeezing more value from fewer, high-impact targets. At the same time, defenders face growing blind spots — from spoofed messages to large-scale social engineering. This week's findings show how that shrinking margin of safety is redrawing the threat landscape. Here's what's making headlines. Hijack Loader expands its reach in Latin America LATAM Targeted by PureHVNC Phishing emails containing SVG file attachments targeting Colombian, Spanish-speaking individuals with themes relating to the Attorney General's office of Colombia have been used to deliver PureHVNC RAT . "The emails entice the user to download an 'official document' from the judicial information system, which starts the infection chain of executing a Hijack Loader executable that leads to the PureHVNC Remote Access Trojan (RAT)," IBM X-Force said . The activity w...
Microsoft Flags AI-Driven Phishing: LLM-Crafted SVG Files Outsmart Email Security

Microsoft Flags AI-Driven Phishing: LLM-Crafted SVG Files Outsmart Email Security

Sep 29, 2025 Email Security / Artificial Intelligence
Microsoft is calling attention to a new phishing campaign primarily aimed at U.S.-based organizations that has likely utilized code generated using large language models (LLMs) to obfuscate payloads and evade security defenses. "Appearing to be aided by a large language model (LLM), the activity obfuscated its behavior within an SVG file, leveraging business terminology and a synthetic structure to disguise its malicious intent," the Microsoft Threat Intelligence team said in an analysis published last week. The activity, detected on August 28, 2025, shows how threat actors are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools into their workflows, often with the goal of crafting more convincing phishing lures, automating malware obfuscation, and generating code that mimics legitimate content. In the attack chain documented by the Windows maker, bad actors have been observed leveraging an already compromised business email account to send phishing messages to stea...
