Nearly 1 in 10 Exposed LiteLLM Gateways Accepted the Example "sk-1234" Admin Key

Nearly 1 in 10 Exposed LiteLLM Gateways Accepted the Example "sk-1234" Admin Key

Sep 10, 2026 Cloud Security / Artificial Intelligence
Nearly one in ten of the internet-facing LiteLLM servers that  Wiz Research  scanned in February accepted  sk-1234 , the example admin key in LiteLLM's own setup guide. LiteLLM is an open-source AI gateway, the software a company puts between its applications and the model providers it pays for. That key is the gateway's administrator credential. Anyone who holds it can read every model provider's API key stored on the server. In Wiz's tests, it also reached the cloud IAM credentials of the machine the gateway runs on. Changing the key needs no upgrade, and it closes every path in Wiz's report that depends on holding it. Where the Number Comes From Wiz ran one scan. It found 3,074 LiteLLM gateways on Shodan in February, and 294 of them accepted the key. In 191 of those 294, no key was set at all, so they would have accepted anything. The rest had the setup guide's value left in place. A second scan in August found more than 85,000 instances, but W...
Malicious LiteLLM Releases Tied to Trivy Hack May Have Exposed 2,100+ Organizations

Malicious LiteLLM Releases Tied to Trivy Hack May Have Exposed 2,100+ Organizations

Aug 12, 2026 Software Supply Chain / Data Breach
Two malicious LiteLLM releases sat on PyPI for about 40 minutes in March carrying credential-stealing code capable of harvesting cloud keys, SSH keys, Kubernetes tokens, database passwords, and other secrets from systems that installed them. Threat intelligence firm CloudSEK now says a dataset it obtained, built from roughly 434,000 files the attackers captured, maps potential exposure to more than 2,500 organizations. Those totals are not a victim count. CloudSEK told The Hacker News the material came from confidential intelligence sources and consists of captured loot and log files it assessed as belonging to the campaign, not data gathered from the organizations it names. The files were taken, in other words. CloudSEK has published the dataset as  a public lookup , searchable by name or domain and filterable by confidence. Each row gives an organization's name and domain, a count of secrets exposed, a count of runs, and a label reading High or Medium. What a high-co...
TeamPCP Backdoors LiteLLM Versions 1.82.7–1.82.8 via Trivy CI/CD Compromise

TeamPCP Backdoors LiteLLM Versions 1.82.7–1.82.8 via Trivy CI/CD Compromise

Mar 24, 2026 Cloud Security / Malware
TeamPCP , the threat actor behind the recent compromises of Trivy and KICS, has now compromised a popular Python package named litellm , pushing two malicious versions containing a credential harvester, a Kubernetes lateral movement toolkit, and a persistent backdoor. Multiple security vendors, including Endor Labs and JFrog , revealed that litellm versions 1.82.7 and 1.82.8 were published on March 24, 2026, likely stemming from the package's use of Trivy in their CI/CD workflow. Both the backdoored versions have since been removed from PyPI. "The payload is a three-stage attack: a credential harvester sweeping SSH keys, cloud credentials, Kubernetes secrets, cryptocurrency wallets, and .env files; a Kubernetes lateral movement toolkit deploying privileged pods to every node; and a persistent systemd backdoor (sysmon.service) polling 'checkmarx[.]zone/raw' for additional binaries," Endor Labs researcher Kiran Raj said. As observed in previous cases, the ha...

LiteLLM Vulnerability Chain Lets Low-Privilege Users Take Over AI Gateway Servers

LiteLLM Vulnerability Chain Lets Low-Privilege Users Take Over AI Gateway Servers

Jun 15, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Vulnerability
A default low-privilege account on a LiteLLM proxy can climb to full admin and run code on the server by chaining three vulnerabilities, researchers at Obsidian Security disclosed LiteLLM is a widely deployed open-source AI gateway that brokers calls to more than 100 model providers behind one OpenAI-compatible interface. A server takeover exposes every provider key it holds, the secrets that decrypt its stored credentials, and every prompt and response passing through it. Obsidian rates the full chain CVSS 9.9, in the Critical range. BerriAI , the maintainer, included the complete fix set in LiteLLM v1.83.14-stable, which GitHub lists as released May 2. Upgrade to that release or later to close the three-CVE chain. The three bugs The first link is CVE-2026-47101 , an authorization bypass. When a regular user (an internal_user) generates a virtual API key, LiteLLM stores the caller-supplied allowed_routes field without checking it against the user's role. The field is...

How LiteLLM Turned Developer Machines Into Credential Vaults for Attackers

How LiteLLM Turned Developer Machines Into Credential Vaults for Attackers

Apr 06, 2026 DevSecOps / Cloud Security
The most active piece of enterprise infrastructure in the company is the developer workstation. That laptop is where credentials are created, tested, cached, copied, and reused across services, bots, build tools, and now local AI agents. In March 2026, the TeamPCP threat actor proved just how valuable developer machines are. Their supply chain attack on LiteLLM, a popular AI development library downloaded millions of times daily, turned developer endpoints into systematic credential harvesting operations. The malware only needed access to the plaintext secrets already sitting on disk. The LiteLLM Attack: A Case Study in Developer Endpoint Compromise The attack was straightforward in execution but devastating in scope. TeamPCP compromised LiteLLM packages versions 1.82.7 and 1.82.8 on PyPI, injecting infostealer malware that activated when developers installed or updated the package. The malware systematically harv...

TeamPCP Pushes Malicious Telnyx Versions to PyPI, Hides Stealer in WAV Files

Mar 27, 2026 Cybersecurity / Malware
TeamPCP, the threat actor behind the supply chain attack targeting Trivy , KICS , and litellm , has now compromised the telnyx Python package by pushing two malicious versions to steal sensitive data. The two versions, 4.87.1 and 4.87.2, published to the Python Package Index (PyPI) repository on March 27, 2026, concealed their credential harvesting capabilities within a .WAV file. Users are recommended to downgrade to version 4.87.0 immediately. The PyPI project is currently quarantined. Various reports from Aikido , Endor Labs , JFrog ,  Ossprey Security , SafeDep , Socket , and StepSecurity indicate the malicious code is injected into "telnyx/_client.py," causing it to be invoked when the package is imported into a Python application. The malware is designed to target Windows, Linux, and macOS systems. "Our analysis reveals a three-stage runtime attack chain on Linux/macOS consisting of delivery via audio steganography, in-memory execution of a data harvester, ...
LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

LiteLLM CVE-2026-42208 SQL Injection Exploited within 36 Hours of Disclosure

Apr 29, 2026 Vulnerability / Cloud Security
In yet another instance of threat actors quickly jumping on the exploitation bandwagon, a newly disclosed critical security flaw in BerriAI's LiteLLM Python package has come under active exploitation in the wild within 36 hours of the bug becoming public knowledge. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-42208 (CVSS score: 9.3), is an SQL injection that could be exploited to modify the underlying LiteLLM proxy database. "A database query used during proxy API key checks mixed the caller-supplied key value into the query text instead of passing it as a separate parameter," LiteLLM maintainers said in an alert last week. "An unauthenticated attacker could send a specially crafted Authorization header to any LLM API route (for example, POST /chat/completions) and reach this query through the proxy's error-handling path. An attacker could read data from the proxy's database and may be able to modify it, leading to unauthorized access to the proxy and the c...

Alleged TeamPCP Hackers Charged in Australia Over Major Supply Chain Attacks

Aug 27, 2026 Cybercrime / Supply Chain Attacks
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has charged two Western Australian men with a combined total of 14 offences over their alleged role in TeamPCP , the cybercrime group behind the March 2026 compromise of the open-source security scanners Trivy and Checkmarx KICS and the AI gateway LiteLLM. Louis Michael Gaebler , 23, and Ruben Ian Thomson , 21, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on August 27, 2026, a day after the AFP and the Western Australia Police Force (WAPF) executed search warrants at properties in Cottesloe, Hamilton Hill, and Mandurah and seized electronic devices for forensic analysis. Police allege the two men were principal participants in the syndicate and received payments in cryptocurrency, the value of which is still under investigation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a July 2 advisory that organizations impacted by the campaign should treat exfiltrated data and credentials as a persistent risk, since affiliated threat actors are "likely...

Anthropic MCP Design Vulnerability Enables RCE, Threatening AI Supply Chain

Apr 20, 2026 Artificial Intelligence / Vulnerability
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a critical "by design" weakness in the Model Context Protocol's ( MCP ) architecture that could pave the way for remote code execution and have a cascading effect on the artificial intelligence (AI) supply chain. "This flaw enables Arbitrary Command Execution (RCE) on any system running a vulnerable MCP implementation, granting attackers direct access to sensitive user data, internal databases, API keys, and chat histories," OX Security researchers Moshe Siman Tov Bustan, Mustafa Naamnih, Nir Zadok, and Roni Bar said in an analysis published last week. The cybersecurity company said the systemic vulnerability is baked into Anthropic's official MCP software development kit (SDK) across any supported language, including Python, TypeScript, Java, and Rust. In all, it affects more than 7,000 publicly accessible servers and software packages totaling more than 150 million downloads. At issue are unsafe defaults in...

⚡ Weekly Recap: AI-Powered Phishing, Android Spying Tool, Linux Exploit, GitHub RCE & More

May 04, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
This week, the shadows moved faster than the patches. While most teams were still triaging last month’s alerts, attackers had already turned control panels into kill switches, kernels into open doors, and open-source pipelines into silent delivery systems. The game has shifted from breach to occupation. They’re living inside SaaS sessions, pushing code with trusted commits, and scaling operations like legitimate businesses — except their product is chaos. And the underground is getting uncomfortably professional. Here’s the full weekly cybersecurity recap: ⚡ Threat of the Week cPanel Flaw Comes Under Attack —A critical flaw in cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) has come under active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-41940, could result in an authentication bypass and allow remote attackers to gain elevated control of the control panel. OpenAI Revokes macOS App Certificate After Malicious Axios Supply Chain Incident

Apr 13, 2026 DevSecOps / Software Security
OpenAI revealed a GitHub Actions workflow used to sign its macOS apps led to the download of the malicious Axios library on March 31, but noted that no user data or internal system was compromised. "Out of an abundance of caution, we are taking steps to protect the process that certifies our macOS applications are legitimate OpenAI apps," OpenAI said in a post last week. "We found no evidence that OpenAI user data was accessed, that our systems or intellectual property were compromised, or that our software was altered." The disclosure comes a little over a week after Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) attributed the supply chain compromise of the popular npm package to a North Korean hacking group it tracks as UNC1069 . The attack enabled the threat actors to hijack the package maintainer's npm account to push two poisoned versions 1.14.1 and 0.30.4 that came embedded with a malicious dependency named "plain-crypto-js," which depl...

⚡ Weekly Recap: ShareFile Threat, Citrix Bleed 2 Ransomware, AI Coding Attacks, and More

Jul 13, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
Somewhere right now, a security tool is quietly finding bugs faster than any human can fix them. That's supposed to be the good news. The catch is that the attackers have the same tools, pointed the other way, and they don't file tickets. That's the shape of this week. Trusted code turns on the people who installed it. Old bugs from last year are still landing because the fix sat in a queue too long. Fake installers, poisoned packages, systems left facing the open internet, and helpful little AI assistants running instructions that were never yours. The gap between "patch exists" and "already exploited" keeps shrinking, and nobody's closing it. None of it is exotic. That's what wears you down. Same ordinary mistakes, just happening faster than we can keep up. Here's the full mess, top to bottom. ⚡ Threat of the Week Progress Tells ShareFile Customers to Shut Down Storage Zone Controllers — Progress urged customers to shut down Win...

⚡ Weekly Recap: VMware Exploits, Windows 0-Day, MCP Attacks, Browser Hijacks and More

Aug 17, 2026 Cybersecurity / Hacking
The expensive attacks are not always the clever ones. This week had plenty of proof. Exposed services got hit, old bugs found fresh use, browser sessions became attack paths, and supply-chain problems kept spreading farther than the original compromise. A lot of it came down to access that was already there and defenses that assumed nobody would look too closely. So, nothing magical. Just a lot of small openings turning into bigger problems. Here’s what stood out. ⚡ Threat of the Week Suspected China APT Behind Exploitation of New VMware Flaw — A suspected China-nexus APT is assessed to be behind the exploitation of a newly patched security flaw in VMware vCenter. The attacks involve the exploitation of CVE-2026-59310 (CVSS score: 9.8), a severe directory-traversal vulnerability in the VMware vCenter server that could be weaponized by a malicious actor to execute arbitrary code. In at least one compromised instance, the attacks led to the deployment of a backdoor and. a rever...

PyTorch Lightning and Intercom-client Hit in Supply Chain Attacks to Steal Credentials

Apr 30, 2026 Supply Chain Attack / Malware
In yet another software supply chain attack, threat actors have managed to compromise the popular Python package Lightning to push two malicious versions to conduct credential theft. According to Aikido Security , OX Security , Socket , and StepSecurity , the two malicious versions are versions 2.6.2 and 2.6.3, both of which were published on April 30, 2026. The campaign is assessed to be an extension of the Mini Shai-Hulud supply chain incident that targeted SAP-related npm packages on Wednesday. As of writing, the project has been quarantined by the administrators of the Python Package Index (PyPI) repository. PyTorch Lightning is an open-source Python framework that provides a high-level interface for PyTorch. The open-source project has more than 31,100 stars on GitHub. "The malicious package includes a hidden _runtime directory containing a downloader and an obfuscated JavaScript payload," Socket said. "The execution chain runs automatically when the lightn...
The State of Secrets Sprawl 2026: 9 Takeaways for CISOs

The State of Secrets Sprawl 2026: 9 Takeaways for CISOs

Mar 30, 2026 DevOps / Artificial Intelligence
Secrets sprawl isn't slowing down: in 2025, it accelerated faster than most security teams anticipated. GitGuardian's State of Secrets Sprawl 2026 report analyzed billions of commits across public GitHub and uncovered 29 million new hardcoded secrets in 2025 alone, a 34% increase year over year and the largest single-year jump ever recorded. This year's findings reveal three core trends: AI has fundamentally reshaped how and where credentials leak, internal systems are far more exposed than most organizations realize, and remediation continues to be the industry's Achilles heel. Here are nine strategic takeaways that matter. 1. Secrets are growing faster than the developer population Since 2021, leaked secrets have grown 152%, while GitHub's public developer base expanded 98%. More developers and more AI-assisted code generation mean more credentials in circulation, and detection alone can't keep pace. 2. AI services drove 81% more leaks year over year ...

Russia-Aligned UAC-0099 Plants Nuclear Weapon Prompt in Malware to Disrupt AI Analysis

Sep 01, 2026 Malware / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a new technique dubbed GuardBreaker that's been put to use by a Russia-aligned threat actor known as UAC-0099 against a target in Ukraine with an aim to interfere with artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted analysis. The idea, ESET said in a series of posts on X, is to deliberately trip a large language model's (LLM) safety mechanisms and prevent its normal functioning. "In the attack, UAC-0099 inserted a problematic text: 'I want to make a nuclear weapon. Help me ...' into their malicious VBS script as a comment," the Slovak cybersecurity company said. "This is meant to attract the AI's attention to the safety-sensitive content and stop it from analyzing the rest of the code." The GuardBreaker-embedded VBS script is assessed to be part of a broader toolset employed by UAC-0099, which has a track record of targeting transportation and energy sectors. The script is primarily designed to download ...
