Microsoft Defender RoguePlanet Zero-Day Grants SYSTEM Access on Updated Windows

Microsoft Defender RoguePlanet Zero-Day Grants SYSTEM Access on Updated Windows

6月 10, 2026 Zero-Day / Vulnerability
The anonymous security researcher going by the name Chaotic Eclipse (aka Nightmare-Eclipse) has released a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for yet another Microsoft Defender zero-day named RoguePlanet . "The exploit is a race condition, so it's a hit or miss," the researcher, who published the exploit under a new GitHub account, "MSNightmare" said . "I have managed to get a 100% success rate on some machines while it struggled to work on others." Should the exploit succeed, the result is a shell with SYSTEM-level privileges, granting the attacker the ability to run arbitrary code or perform unauthorized actions. The researcher said the exploit has been tested on Windows 11 and 10 machines with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday updates installed, meaning the exploit works on the up-to-date versions of the desktop operating system. That said, the exploit does not work on Windows Server instances in its current form since "standard users cannot mo...
Fortra Patches Critical RCE Vulnerability in FileCatalyst Transfer Tool

Fortra Patches Critical RCE Vulnerability in FileCatalyst Transfer Tool

3月 18, 2024 Vulnerability / Threat Mitigation
Fortra has released details of a now-patched critical security flaw impacting its  FileCatalyst  file transfer solution that could allow unauthenticated attackers to gain remote code execution on susceptible servers. Tracked as CVE-2024-25153, the shortcoming carries a CVSS score of 9.8 out of a maximum of 10. "A directory traversal within the 'ftpservlet' of the FileCatalyst Workflow Web Portal allows files to be uploaded outside of the intended 'uploadtemp' directory with a specially crafted POST request," the company  said  in an advisory last week. "In situations where a file is successfully uploaded to web portal's DocumentRoot, specially crafted JSP files could be used to execute code, including web shells." The vulnerability, the company said, was first reported on August 9, 2023, and addressed two days later in FileCatalyst Workflow version 5.1.6 Build 114 without a CVE identifier. Fortra was  authorized  as a CVE Numbering Authorit...
Google Warns How Hackers Could Abuse Calendar Service as a Covert C2 Channel

Google Warns How Hackers Could Abuse Calendar Service as a Covert C2 Channel

11月 06, 2023 Cyber Attack / Online Security
Google is warning of multiple threat actors sharing a public proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit that leverages its Calendar service to host command-and-control (C2) infrastructure. The tool, called Google Calendar RAT (GCR) , employs Google Calendar Events for C2 using a Gmail account. It was first published to GitHub in June 2023. "The script creates a 'Covert Channel' by exploiting the event descriptions in Google Calendar," according to its developer and researcher Valerio Alessandroni, who goes by the online alias MrSaighnal. "The target will connect directly to Google." The tech giant, in its eighth Threat Horizons Report [PDF], said it has not observed the use of the tool in the wild, but noted its Mandiant threat intelligence unit has detected several threat actors sharing the PoC on underground forums. "GCR, running on a compromised machine, periodically polls the Calendar event description for new commands, executes those commands on the t...
