Over 80,000 Microsoft Entra ID Accounts Targeted Using Open-Source TeamFiltration Tool

Jun 12, 2025 Enterprise Security / Active Directory
Cybersecurity researchers have uncovered a new account takeover (ATO) campaign that leverages an open-source penetration testing framework called TeamFiltration to breach Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) user accounts. The activity, codenamed UNK_SneakyStrike by Proofpoint, has targeted over 80,000 user accounts across hundreds of organizations' cloud tenants since a surge in login attempts was observed in December 2024, leading to successful account takeovers. "Attackers leverage Microsoft Teams API and Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers located in various geographical regions to launch user-enumeration and password-spraying attempts," the enterprise security company said . "Attackers exploited access to specific resources and native applications, such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Outlook, and others." TeamFiltration, publicly released by researcher Melvin "Flangvik" Langvik in August 2022 at the DEF CON security conference...
Seven Bolt-Ons to Make Your Entra ID More Secure for Critical Sessions

Seven Bolt-Ons to Make Your Entra ID More Secure for Critical Sessions

Dec 09, 2024 Identity Security / Passwordless
Identity security is all the rage right now, and rightfully so. Securing identities that access an organization's resources is a sound security model. But IDs have their limits, and there are many use cases when a business should add other layers of security to a strong identity. And this is what we at SSH Communications Security want to talk about today. Let's look at seven ways to add additional security controls for critical and sensitive sessions for privileged users as a bolt-on to other systems. Bolt-on 1: Securing access for high-impact IDs Since strong ID is a key element in privileged access, our model is to natively integrate with identity and access management (IAM) solutions, like Microsoft Entra ID. We use IAM as a source for identities and permissions and make sure your organization stays up–to–date with any changes in Entra ID on identities, groups, or permissions in real-time. The native integration allows automating the joiners-movers-leavers process since if a u...
New Silver SAML Attack Evades Golden SAML Defenses in Identity Systems

New Silver SAML Attack Evades Golden SAML Defenses in Identity Systems

Feb 29, 2024 Threat Intelligence / Cyber Threat
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a new attack technique called  Silver SAML  that can be successful even in cases where mitigations have been applied against Golden SAML attacks. Silver SAML "enables the exploitation of SAML to launch attacks from an identity provider like Entra ID against applications configured to use it for authentication, such as Salesforce," Semperis researchers Tomer Nahum and Eric Woodruff  said  in a report shared with The Hacker News. Golden SAML (short for  Security Assertion Markup Language ) was  first documented  by CyberArk in 2017. The attack vector, in a nutshell, entails the abuse of the interoperable authentication standard to impersonate almost any identity in an organization. It's also similar to the  Golden Ticket attack  in that it grants attackers the ability to gain unauthorized access to any service in a federation with any privileges and to stay persistent in this environment in a stealth...

Between Buzz and Reality: The CTEM Conversation We All Need

Between Buzz and Reality: The CTEM Conversation We All Need

Jun 24, 2025Threat Exposure Management
I had the honor of hosting the first episode of the Xposure Podcast live from Xposure Summit 2025. And I couldn't have asked for a better kickoff panel: three cybersecurity leaders who don't just talk security, they live it. Let me introduce them. Alex Delay , CISO at IDB Bank, knows what it means to defend a highly regulated environment. Ben Mead , Director of Cybersecurity at Avidity Biosciences, brings a forward-thinking security perspective that reflects the innovation behind Avidity's targeted RNA therapeutics. Last but not least, Michael Francess , Director of Cybersecurity Advanced Threat at Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, leads the charge in protecting the franchise. Each brought a unique vantage point to a common challenge: applying Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM) to complex production environments. Gartner made waves in 2023 with a bold prediction: organizations that prioritize CTEM will be three times less likely to be breached by 2026. But here's the kicker -...
