An emerging threat actor out of China has been traced to a new hacking campaign aimed at government agencies in India and residents of Hong Kong intending to steal sensitive information, cybersecurity firm Malwarebytes revealed in the latest report shared with The Hacker News. The attacks were observed during the first week of July, coinciding the passage of controversial security law in Hong Kong and India's ban of 59 China-made apps over privacy concerns, weeks after a violent skirmish along the Indo-China border. Attributing the attack with "moderate confidence" to a new Chinese APT group, Malwarebytes said they were able to track their activities based on the "unique phishing attempts" designed to compromise targets in India and Hong Kong. Telegram, one of the most popular encrypted messaging app, briefly went offline yesterday for hundreds of thousands of users worldwide after a powerful distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack hit its servers. Telegram founder Pavel Durov later revealed that the attack was mainly coming from the IP addresses located in China, suggesting the Chinese government could be behind it to sabotage Hong Kong protesters. Whistleblower Edward Snowden made a public appearance yesterday at a Moscow airport, beside a staff member of the Wikileaks organization, met with representatives of a half-dozen or so human rights groups. Snowden has not been seen in public and was stuck in the transit area of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport since arriving there on June 23 from Hong Kong . Tse Man- lai,  28-year-old businessman, owner of an information technology company, launched denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on Hong Kong stock exchange last year on August 12 and 13 , was sentenced to nine months in jail on Friday. According to SCMP , Tse Man- lai, who had pleaded not guilty to two counts of obtaining access to a computer with criminal or dishonest intent, was convicted of both counts in the District Court on October 24.  The attacked website is one of the most important economic platform of Hong Kong. Trading in the shares of seven companies was suspended. The seven companies, which included HSBC, Cathay Pacific Airways and HKEx itself, had a combined market value of HK$1.5 trillion.
