Google Silently Adds 'Panic Detection Mode" to Android 7.1 – How It's Useful

Jul 11, 2017
How often do you click the 'back' or the 'Home' button on your mobile device to exit an application immediately? I believe, several times in a single day because a large number of apps do not have an exit button to directly force-close them instead of going back and back and back until they exit. Sometimes Android users expect the back button to take them back to the back page, but sometimes they really want to exit the app immediately. Often this has severe usability implications when a majority of users are already dealing with their low-performance mobile devices and believe that clicking back button multiple times would kill the app and save memory, but it doesn't. Google has now addressed this issue and silently included a feature within Android 7.1 Nougat that allows users to exit from apps by pressing the 'back' key successively within 0.3 seconds for over four times. Dubbed " Panic Detection Mode ," the feature runs in the background o

No, it's not Nutella. Google has finally announced the official name of the latest version of its Android mobile software, codenamed Android N: " Nougat ." Yes, the next version of sugary snack-themed Android and the successor to Android Marshmallow will now be known as Android Nougat, the company revealed on Snapchat and Twitter. Android has maintained its tradition of naming its Android mobile operating system by the names of alphabetically-ordered sugary delights starting from Android Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, and Marshmallow . The final release of Android Nougat is still in beta and due later this summer. The good news is that the Google Android team has brought several meaningful features to your smartphone and tablet with the release of Android Nougat. Andro

Cyber Story Time: The Boy Who Cried "Secure!"

As a relatively new security category, many security operators and executives I've met have asked us "What are these Automated Security Validation (ASV) tools?" We've covered that pretty extensively in the past, so today, instead of covering the " What is ASV?" I wanted to address the " Why ASV?" question. In this article, we'll cover some common use cases and misconceptions of how people misuse and misunderstand ASV tools daily (because that's a lot more fun). To kick things off, there's no place to start like the beginning. Automated security validation tools are designed to provide continuous, real-time assessment of an organization's cybersecurity defenses. These tools are continuous and use exploitation to validate defenses like EDR, NDR, and WAFs. They're more in-depth than vulnerability scanners because they use tactics and techniques that you'll see in manual penetration tests. Vulnerability scanners won't relay hashes or combine vulnerabilities to further attacks, whic
