Atlassian Data Center Flaw Draws Exploitation Attempts Within Two Hours of Public Details

Oct 07, 2026 Vulnerability / Web Security
Threat actors have begun to exploit a newly disclosed critical security flaw impacting Atlassian Data Center products that could allow access to sensitive files under certain conditions. The arbitrary file access flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-21589 (CVSS score: 9.3) affects multiple products, including Bitbucket Data Center, Confluence Data Center, Jira Service Management Data Center, Jira Software Data Center, Bamboo Data Center, Crowd Data Center, Crucible, and Fisheye. "This arbitrary file access vulnerability allows an unauthenticated attacker to access specific files within the web application root directory in affected versions," the Australian company said. "Exploitation requires prior knowledge of the target file's exact name and path; this vulnerability does not allow attackers to enumerate or list directory contents. In some configurations, there may be sensitive files present that increase your risk." Atlassian said impacted Atlassian Cloud pro...
Atlassian Drops Patches for Critical Jira Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

Atlassian Drops Patches for Critical Jira Authentication Bypass Vulnerability

Apr 23, 2022
Atlassian has published a security advisory warning of a critical vulnerability in its Jira software that could be abused by a remote, unauthenticated attacker to circumvent authentication protections. Tracked as  CVE-2022-0540 , the flaw is rated 9.9 out of 10 on the CVSS scoring system and resides in Jira's authentication framework, Jira Seraph. Khoadha of Viettel Cyber Security has been credited with discovering and reporting the security weakness. "A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this by sending a specially crafted HTTP request to bypass authentication and authorization requirements in WebWork actions using an affected configuration," Atlassian  noted . The flaw affects the following Jira products - Jira Core Server, Jira Software Server and Jira Software Data Center: All versions before 8.13.18, 8.14.x, 8.15.x, 8.16.x, 8.17.x, 8.18.x, 8.19.x, 8.20.x before 8.20.6, and 8.21.x Jira Service Management Server and Jira Service Management Data Cent...
Atlassian Rovo Can Be Tricked Into Sending Jira and Confluence Data to Attackers

Atlassian Rovo Can Be Tricked Into Sending Jira and Confluence Data to Attackers

Aug 08, 2026 AI Security / Enterprise Security
Attacker-controlled instructions can make Atlassian's Rovo assistant collect Jira or Confluence data that a signed-in user can access, then send it to an outside server. Two security firms found that behavior independently, by different routes. Only one of those routes is confirmed closed. PromptArmor , an AI security firm, hid the instructions in content Rovo reads. It said an uploaded file was enough to make the assistant gather internal data and send it out through a URL request, with no separate approval step. The firm published on August 5, 2026 and said the chain still worked with Rovo's web-search option switched off. That bypass is single-sourced, and the report establishes the finding's status only on that date; a later remediation is not confirmed here. Varonis Threat Labs put the instructions in a link instead. It found that the rovoChatPrompt URL parameter would preload attacker instructions into Rovo Chat, so one click from an authenticated user was enou...

Atlassian Rolls Out Security Patch for Critical Confluence Vulnerability

Atlassian Rolls Out Security Patch for Critical Confluence Vulnerability

Jul 21, 2022
Atlassian has rolled out fixes to remediate a critical security vulnerability pertaining to the use of hard-coded credentials affecting  the Questions For Confluence  app for Confluence Server and Confluence Data Center. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2022-26138 , arises when the app in question is enabled on either of two services, causing it to create a Confluence user account with the username "disabledsystemuser." While this account, Atlassian says, is to help administrators migrate data from the app to Confluence Cloud, it's also created with a hard-coded password, effectively allowing viewing and editing all non-restricted pages within Confluence by default. "A remote, unauthenticated attacker with knowledge of the hard-coded password could exploit this to log into Confluence and access any pages the  confluence-users group  has access to," the company  said  in an advisory, adding that "the hard-coded password is trivial to obtain after downloading an...

Atlassian's HipChat Hacked — Users' Data May Have Been Compromised

Atlassian's HipChat Hacked — Users' Data May Have Been Compromised

Apr 25, 2017
Atlassian's group chat platform HipChat is notifying its users of a data breach after some unknown hacker or group of hackers broke into one of its servers over the weekend and stole a significant amount of data, including group chat logs. What Happened? According to a security notice published on the company's website today, a vulnerability in a "popular third-party" software library used by its HipChat.com service allowed hackers to break into its server and access customer account information. However, HipChat did not say exactly which programming blunder the hackers exploited to get into the HipChat cloud server. What type of Information? Data accessed by the hackers include user account information such as customers' names, email addresses and hashed password information. Besides information, attackers may have obtained metadata from HipChat "rooms" or groups, including room name and room topic. While metadata is not as critical as d...
Snowflake GitHub Actions Flaw Lets Crafted Issues Trigger Command Injection

Snowflake GitHub Actions Flaw Lets Crafted Issues Trigger Command Injection

Aug 17, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers at Wiz have disclosed a new GitHub Actions workflow injection vulnerability in Snowflake's public  snowflakedb/snowflake-connector-net repository that it said could be exploited through a crafted GitHub issue to execute commands in a workflow containing internal Jira credentials. The issue was present in  .github/workflows/jira_issue.yml , which ran when a public issue was opened and exposed JIRA_BASE_URL, JIRA_USER_EMAIL, and JIRA_API_TOKEN to the same workflow step. The weakness was confined to the repository's CI/CD automation, with no affected Snowflake Connector for .NET release identified. The workflow inserted attacker-controlled issue title and body values directly into a shell run: block. It also checked github.event.pull_request.user.login even though the event was an issue, meaning the referenced pull request property did not exist. GitHub says , "If you attempt to dereference a nonexistent pr...

⚡ Weekly Recap: Helpdesk 0-Days, Rogue Certs, ShinyHunters Arrest, AI-Fooling Malware and More

Oct 12, 2026 Cybersecurity News / Hacking
Some meetings last longer than it took attackers to jump on a newly disclosed security flaw this week. Within hours, they were already testing it. That's not much time to read the warning, let alone do something about it. But speed is only part of the problem. A secure connection didn't always mean a safe destination. People offering to fix a ransomware mess had questions to answer themselves. Malware got better at hiding its tracks. And some systems turned out to be easier to break into than anyone would like to admit. The odd part is how normal much of it looked until someone checked closer. There's more going on here than a few bad bugs and clever attacks. Some of the smaller stories are just as telling. This week's full recap is worth a read, especially the bits that didn't make the big headlines. ⚡ Threat of the Week Atlassian Flaw Exploited in the Wild — Threat actors have begun to exploit a newly disclosed critical security flaw impacting Atlassian...
4 Instructive Postmortems on Data Downtime and Loss

4 Instructive Postmortems on Data Downtime and Loss

Mar 01, 2024 Data Security / Disaster Recovery
More than a decade ago, the concept of the  ‘blameless’  postmortem changed how tech companies recognize failures at scale. John Allspaw, who coined the term during his tenure at Etsy, argued postmortems were all about controlling our natural reaction to an incident, which is to point fingers: “One option is to assume the single cause is incompetence and scream at engineers to make them ‘pay attention!’ or ‘be more careful!’ Another option is to take a hard look at how the accident actually happened, treat the engineers involved with respect, and learn from the event.” What can we, in turn, learn from some of the most honest and blameless—and public—postmortems of the last few years? GitLab: 300GB of user data gone in seconds What happened : Back in 2017, GitLab experienced a painful 18-hour outage. That story, and GitLab’s subsequent honesty and transparency, has significantly impacted how organizations handle data security today. The incident began when GitLab’s second...

⚡ Weekly Recap: WSUS Exploited, LockBit 5.0 Returns, Telegram Backdoor, F5 Breach Widens

Oct 27, 2025 Cybersecurity / Hacking News
Security, trust, and stability — once the pillars of our digital world — are now the tools attackers turn against us. From stolen accounts to fake job offers, cybercriminals keep finding new ways to exploit both system flaws and human behavior. Each new breach proves a harsh truth: in cybersecurity, feeling safe can be far more dangerous than being alert. Here’s how that false sense of security was broken again this week. ⚡ Threat of the Week Newly Patched Critical Microsoft WSUS Flaw Comes Under Attack — Microsoft released out-of-band security updates to patch a critical-severity Windows Server Update Service (WSUS) vulnerability that has since come under active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability in question is CVE-2025-59287 (CVSS score: 9.8), a remote code execution flaw in WSUS that was originally fixed by the tech giant as part of its Patch Tuesday update published last week. According to Eye Security and Huntress, the security flaw is being weaponized to drop a .N...

AndroxGh0st Malware Integrates Mozi Botnet to Target IoT and Cloud Services

Nov 08, 2024 IoT Security / Vulnerability
The threat actors behind the AndroxGh0st malware are now exploiting a broader set of security flaws impacting various internet-facing applications, while also deploying the Mozi botnet malware. "This botnet utilizes remote code execution and credential-stealing methods to maintain persistent access, leveraging unpatched vulnerabilities to infiltrate critical infrastructures," CloudSEK said in a new report. AndroxGh0st is the name given to a Python-based cloud attack tool that's known for its targeting of Laravel applications with the goal of sensitive data pertaining to services like Amazon Web Services (AWS), SendGrid, and Twilio. Active since at least 2022, it has previously leveraged flaws in the Apache web server ( CVE-2021-41773 ), Laravel Framework ( CVE-2018-15133 ), and PHPUnit ( CVE-2017-9841 ) to gain initial access, escalate privileges, and establish persistent control over compromised systems.
