Malicious Sicoob NuGet Steals Banking Credentials as npm Packages Target Cloud Secrets

Malicious Sicoob NuGet Steals Banking Credentials as npm Packages Target Cloud Secrets

May 29, 2026 Software Supply Chain / Threat Intelligence
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a malicious NuGet package that masquerades as a C# software development kit for Sicoob, one of Brazil's largest cooperative financial systems, to siphon client IDs and PFX certificates. According to Socket , versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.4 of " Sicoob.Sdk " contain functionality to exfiltrate sensitive information, including PFX certificates that are used to authenticate businesses with the Sicoob banking network in order to automate banking operations, such as processing instant payments and generating dynamic Pix QR codes. The package is estimated to have been downloaded nearly 500 times. "When a developer instantiates SicoobClient with a client ID, a PFX file path, and a PFX password, the package reads the PFX file from disk, Base64-encodes its contents, and sends the supplied client ID, PFX password, and encoded PFX data to a hardcoded third-party Sentry endpoint," security researcher Kirill Boychenko said. New Wave of DPRK Attacks Uses AI-Inserted npm Malware, Fake Firms, and RATs

Apr 29, 2026 Malware / Social Engineering
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered malicious code in an npm package after a malicious package as a dependency to the project by Anthropic's Claude Opus large language model (LLM). The package in question is " @validate-sdk/v2 ," which is listed on npm as a utility software development kit (SDK) for hashing, validation, encoding/decoding, and secure random generation. However, its real functionality is to plunder sensitive secrets from the compromised environment. The package, which shows signs of being vibe-coded using generative artificial intelligence (AI), was first uploaded to the repository in October 2025. The malware campaign has been codenamed PromptMink by ReversingLabs, which linked the activity as part of a broader campaign mounted by the North Korean threat actor known as Famous Chollima (aka Shifty Corsair), which is behind the long-running Contagious Interview campaign and the fraudulent IT Worker scam . "The new malware campaign [...] inv...
Malicious npm Package Targets Atomic Wallet, Exodus Users by Swapping Crypto Addresses

Malicious npm Package Targets Atomic Wallet, Exodus Users by Swapping Crypto Addresses

Apr 10, 2025 Malware / Cryptocurrency
Threat actors are continuing to upload malicious packages to the npm registry so as to tamper with already-installed local versions of legitimate libraries and execute malicious code in what's seen as a sneakier attempt to stage a software supply chain attack. The newly discovered package, named pdf-to-office , masquerades as a utility for converting PDF files to Microsoft Word documents. But, in reality, it harbors features to inject malicious code into cryptocurrency wallet software associated with Atomic Wallet and Exodus. "Effectively, a victim who tried to send crypto funds to another crypto wallet would have the intended wallet destination address swapped out for one belonging to the malicious actor," ReversingLabs researcher Lucija Valentić said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The npm package in question was first published on March 24, 2025, and has received three updates since then but not before the previous versions were likely removed by the a...
