Most organizations still picture cyber defense as a fortress problem: build stronger walls, add more guards, buy another detection engine. But modern incidents rarely crash through the front gate. Gitea Vulnerability Exposes Private Container Images without Authentication

Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed a security flaw in Gitea, an open-source, self-hosted platform for version control, that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to pull private container images from Gitea deployments without requiring an account, password, or other credentials. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-27771 (CVSS score: 8.2), affects all versions of Gitea prior to 1.26.2 , which addresses the issue. According to Noscope, the security defect likely impacts more than 30,000 deployments across over 30 countries and went undetected for close to four years. The vast majority of the exposures are in China, the U.S., Germany, France, and the U.K. Affected organizations span healthcare providers, aerospace manufacturers, retail infrastructure, and internet service providers. Microsoft has warned of an active cryptojacking campaign that makes use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot interactions as a mechanism for surfacing malicious download sites. "This emerging delivery technique extends social engineering beyond conventional search results and increases the visibility of malicious software recommendations," Microsoft Defender Experts and the Microsoft Defender Security Research Team said in a report published Tuesday. The activity, per the tech giant, impersonates legitimate system utilities like CrystalDiskInfo, HWMonitor, Display Driver Uninstaller, FurMark, K-Lite Codec Pack, and PDFgear, likely in an attempt to target users who own high-performance GPUs. The idea is to focus on compromising systems with higher mining value than indiscriminately infecting a large number of machines, it added. The Iranian hacking group known as MuddyWater has been linked to a new campaign affecting at least nine organizations across nine countries on four continents in the first quarter of 2026. The activity targeted industrial and electronics manufacturing, education and public-sector bodies, financial services, and professional services, per the Threat Hunter Team from Symantec and Carbon Black. Among the victims is a major South Korean electronics manufacturer, with the attackers spending a week inside its network in February 2026. Also singled as part of the sprawling espionage effort were an international airport in the Middle East, Southeast Asian industrial manufacturers, and a Latin American financial-services provider. Microsoft has rolled out updates to fix a remote code execution vulnerability impacting SharePoint that could be exploited by bad actors in attacks without requiring any specialized conditions to be met. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-45659 , carries a CVSS score of 8.8. It has been assigned an important severity. "Deserialization of untrusted data in Microsoft Office SharePoint allows an authorized attacker to execute code over a network," Microsoft said in an advisory released last week. Microsoft noted that the vulnerability could be triggered by any authenticated attacker, and that it does not require administrator or other elevated privileges. "In a network-based attack, an authenticated attacker, who has a minimum of Site Member permissions (PR:L), could execute code remotely on the SharePoint Server," the Windows maker added.
