The investigation was launched by the bureau after it received a report from the website's operator who said its site was hacked in March. During initial investigations, Shih confessed to the police that he hacked into the website's customer database and made unauthorized changes to customer data. Shih also confessed that he has used a hacking technique called SQL injection to attack the website's database . SQL injection is a technique used to take advantage of non-validated input vulnerabilities to pass SQL commands through a Web application for execution by a backend database. The result is that the attacker can execute arbitrary SQL queries and/or commands on the backend database server through the Web application. The  Criminal Investi

Yahoo! Blind SQL Injection could lead to data leakage
Apr 26, 2013
It seems that 2013 is the " Data Leakage Year "! Many customers' information and confidential data have been published on the internet coming from government institutions, famous vendors, and companies too. Ebrahim Hegazy(@Zigoo0) an Egyptian information security advisor who found a high severity vulnerability in " Avira license daemon " days ago, is on the news again, but this time for finding and reporting Blind SQL Injection vulnerability in one of Yahoo! E-marketing applications. SQL Injection vulnerabilities are ranked as Critical vulnerabilities, because if used by Hackers it will cause a database breach which will lead to confidential information leakage. A time based blind SQL Injection web vulnerability is detected in the official Yahoo! TW YSM Marketing Application Service. A hacker with handle name (~!White!~) today disclose SQL injection vulnerabilities in dozens of Military, United Nation and Pentagon domains. SQL Injection is one of the many web attack mechanisms used by hackers to steal data from organizations. Through a Pastebin note hacker announce more details about his findings in many sensitive websites, including Pentagon Defense Post Office Website, Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs, Wiesbaden Military Community, NMCI Legacy Applications, Darby Military Community, Department of Economic and Social Affairs at United Nation and many more. Because the passwords was stored in plain text, that make more easy for those hacker to access the domain panels of each domain and changing the DNS entries to shift websites on a rouge server with defaced page. The defaced message as shown below: Defaced domains : www.youtube.tm www.gmail.tm www.msdn.tm www.intel.tm www.officexp.tm www.xbox.tm www.windowsvista.tm www.orkut.tm www.google.tm Mirror of hacks are available at Zone-H .

Red Hat patches multiple web application Vulnerabilities

Red Hat patches multiple web application Vulnerabilities
Jan 04, 2013
RED HAT has fixed multiple web application security issues that allowed hackers to extract website database using Blind SQL injection. Red Hat also confirmed a cross site scripting and Local File Inclusion Vulnerabilities on their website. Mohamed Ramadan Security Researcher and Trainer Attack-Secure , told ' The Hacker News ' that last year he reported 3 flaws to the company and they finally confirm and patch those in January 2013. Blind SQL injection is identical to normal SQL Injection except that when an attacker attempts to exploit an application, rather than getting a useful error message, they get a generic page specified by the developer instead. This makes exploiting a potential SQL Injection attack more difficult but not impossible. Local file inclusion is a vulnerability that allows the attacker to read files, that are stored locally through the web application. This happens because the code of the application does not properly sanitize the include

Yahoo data leak by Virus_Hima, Why do we need a proactive security?
Dec 17, 2012
In November I was contacted for first time by the Egyptian Hacker named ViruS_HimA who announced me to have hacked into Adobe servers and leaked private data. The hacker violated Adobe servers gaining full access and dumping the entire database with more of 150,000 emails and hashed passwords of Adobe employees and customers/partner of the firm such as US Military, USAF, Google, Nasa DHL and many other companies. ViruS_HimA specifically addressed the inefficient and slow patch management process that leaves exposed for long period "big companies".  " When someone report vulnerability to them, It take 5-7 days for the notification that they've received your report!! It even takes 3-4 months to patch the vulnerabilities! Such big companies should really respond very fast and fix the security issues as fast as they can ." Like , we reported two days before that one month old reported critical vulnerability of account hijacking in Outlook and Hotmail  is still wo

The Hack incident was performed in 3 Phases as described below: Phase 1: A Hacker , with nickname " FastFive" posted a few sql injection vulnerable Educational sites on a famous Hacking Forum last week which included the SQLi vulnerable link for the Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy website, as you can see in the list in the above screenshot taken by me. Phase 2 : Almost 100's of Hackers have seen the post from " FastFive " and they got some juicy information for their next targets. One of them named, " Vansh " successfully exploit the Harvard's site and  extracted the database onto his computer. He Found the username and Password from the table and tried to login on the Admin access panel location
