You Can Hijack Nearly Any Drone Mid-flight Using This Tiny Gadget

You Can Hijack Nearly Any Drone Mid-flight Using This Tiny Gadget

Oct 27, 2016
Now you can hijack nearly any drone mid-flight just by using a tiny gadget. Security researcher Jonathan Andersson has devised a small hardware, dubbed Icarus, that can hijack a variety of popular drones mid-flight, allowing attackers to lock the owner out and give them complete control over the device. Andersson, who is the manager of Trend Micro's TippingPoint DVLab division, demonstrated this new hack at this year's PacSec security conference in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday. Besides Drones, the new gadget has the capability of fully hijacking a wide variety of radio-controlled devices, including helicopters, cars, boats and other remote control gears that run over the most popular wireless transmission control protocol called DSMx. DSMx is a protocol used to facilitate communication between radio controllers and devices, including drones, helicopters, and cars. This is not the first hardware that can hijack drones mid-flight . There are jamming devices available in...

In a joint surveillance program, the US intelligence agency NSA ( National Security Agency ) and the British intelligence agency GCHQ ( Government Communications Headquarters ) hacked into, decrypted, and tracked live video feeds of Israeli Military Drones and Fighter Jets . This could be one of the most shocking and embarrassing disclosures for Israel, who is the United States' ally and prides itself on its technical capabilities. Published by The Intercept, the newly released documents from the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed that in an operation dubbed " Anarchist ," UK and US intelligence officials have been… ...regularly accessing Israeli drone cameras, allowing them to watch live video feeds from drones and fighter jets while Israel bombed Gaza and spied on Syria. But, how the intelligence officials were able to do so. Also Read: Google Wants to Fly Drones Over Your Head ...
The Future of Serverless Security in 2025: From Logs to Runtime Protection

The Future of Serverless Security in 2025: From Logs to Runtime Protection

Nov 28, 2024Cloud Security / Threat Detection
Serverless environments, leveraging services such as AWS Lambda, offer incredible benefits in terms of scalability, efficiency, and reduced operational overhead. However, securing these environments is extremely challenging. The core of current serverless security practices often revolves around two key components: log monitoring and static analysis of code or system configuration. But here is the issue with that: 1. Logs Only Tell Part of the Story Logs can track external-facing activities, but they don't provide visibility into the internal execution of functions. For example, if an attacker injects malicious code into a serverless function that doesn't interact with external resources (e.g., external APIs or databases), traditional log-based tools will not detect this intrusion. The attacker may execute unauthorized processes, manipulate files, or escalate privileges—all without triggering log events. 2. Static Misconfiguration Detection is Incomplete Static tools that check ...

This is How Tokyo Police Catching Rogue Drones in the Sky

Dec 14, 2015
So how do you catch rogue drones that take your sky? With another Giant Drone, of course! This is exactly how the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is catching unwanted and potentially dangerous drones flying over the city, according to Japan Today. The department is launching an anti-drone squad in order to prevent people from flying their drones overcrowded residential areas and important buildings in Tokyo, including the Prime Minister's Office. How So? Instead using a dragnet on the ground, the police authorities will use a drone armed with a net to scoop up the suspected drones and carry them away to safety. Watch the Video: The Tokyo Metropolitan Police have also released a video that shows its special Net-Wielding Drone in action. You can look at the video above. It looks like the police are using a DJI Spreading Wings 900 with a 3 x 2 m² of Net tied to its feet. As soon as a rogue drone is spotted in the sky, the squad will first a...

Weaponized Drones For Police Now Legal In North Dakota

Aug 31, 2015
Drones also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have contributed enormously by acting as an interface for conducting surveillance operations, or delivering products, or attacking a war site to name a few. We have seen Drones like ' Snoopy ' that are capable to intercept data from your Smartphones, even without authentication or interaction, using spoofed wireless networks. And now the reports depict... The first U.S. state to get permission for flying drones with "less lethal weapons" is North Dakota. It now has the powers to grant permissions to the local police departments to attach weapons like: rubber bullets, pepper spray, tear gas, sound cannons, and tasers. Earlier, the law's author Rick Becker had restricted the police to get a warrant for conducting drone surveillance. However, the things didn't turn up his way as, an officer from the North Dakota Peace Officers Association Bruce Burkett , controlled things his way by get...

Drones Spying on Cell Phone Users for Advertisers

Mar 05, 2015
Do you know, apart from United States National Security Agency (NSA) , Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and law enforcement, a few advertising companies are also monitoring unsuspecting users' cell phone data with the help of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS) called Drones. Yes it's True! A Singapore-based advertising firm AdNear , which described itself as "the leading location intelligence platform," is using a number of small drones flying around the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles since early February in order to track Wi-Fi and cellular transmission signals. ADNEAR DRONES TRACKS YOU EVERYWHERE The drones have ability to sniff out device' cellular or wireless Internet signals, which is then identify by device ID. Using this gathered information, the drones track each and every movements and behaviors of individual users. Generally, the reason behind spying on people's cell phone signals is the company's interest to deliver hyper-targe...

MalDrone — First Ever Backdoor Malware for Drones

Jan 27, 2015
The use of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) called Drones is rapidly transforming the way we go to war. Drones were once used for land surveillance, Delivering Pizza's, then equipped with bombs that changed the way nations conduct war and last year, these hovering drones were also used to hack Smartphones. Recently, a security researcher has found a backdoor in the Parrot AR Drones manufactured by a French-based company, that could allow a malicious hacker to remotely hijacked the radio controlled flying quadcopter helicopter. The Parrot AR Drone, revealed at the International CES 2010 in Las Vegas, is a quadricopter helicopter which you can control with your smartphone or tablet. It features two built-in cameras, is easy to fly, and can be controlled without too much danger of it flipping over or smashing into things. FIRST EVER MALWARE FOR DRONES Security researcher, Rahul Sasi claimed to have developed the first ever backdoor malware for AR drone ARM L...

New U.S. drone hacked by IRAN ? Reality or propaganda?

Dec 05, 2012
It's known, drones are privileged vehicles for reconnaissance and attacks, technology has achieved level of excellence and their use is largely diffused, that's why defense companies are providing new solution to make them increasingly effective. But the incredible amount of technological components could be itself a point of weakness, last year in fact an U.S. stealthy RQ-170 Sentinel drone was captured by Iranian military near the city of Kashmar. The vehicle was used in reconnaissance mission, it took off from near Afghanistan, exactly from Kandahar airfield. In this hours government of Teheran has announced to have captured a new drone, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi reported that on Dec. 5th Iranian defense has captured a Scan Eagle drone that violated the fly zone over the Persian Gulf, around Kharg Island, in southern Iran. The zone is a strategic area, the place provides a sea port for the export o...
