Two Unitree G1 EDU Humanoid Robot Flaws Enable Root RCE, One Starts Over Bluetooth

Two Unitree G1 EDU Humanoid Robot Flaws Enable Root RCE, One Starts Over Bluetooth

Aug 28, 2026 Vulnerability / IoT Security
Security researcher Olivier Laflamme has disclosed two independent root remote code execution (RCE) chains affecting the Unitree G1 EDU , including a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) path that can reach root on the robot's Locomotion PC. The flaws are tracked as  CVE-2026-76639  and  CVE-2026-76640 , with the first involving a network-adjacent path through chat_go and bashrunner and the second beginning from BLE proximity. An exact fixed firmware release has not been verified in any accessible Unitree guidance, leaving G1 EDU owners without a confirmed release target for either vulnerability. Laflamme said Unitree patched the cloud account-to-robot ownership check in July 2026. As of the August 27 disclosure, the current cloud-assisted route requires an account bound to the target G1 or the relevant key material already in hand. Laflamme published the research on August 27, 2026, describing the two issues as separate root-RCE paths. The research timeline shows Laflamm...
A Malicious SIM Card Can Run Attacker Code Inside the Modems Behind Cellular IoT Devices

A Malicious SIM Card Can Run Attacker Code Inside the Modems Behind Cellular IoT Devices

Aug 11, 2026 IoT Security / Mobile Security
A malicious SIM card can order the device it sits in to run commands of the attacker's choosing. On the cellular modules built into electric-vehicle chargers, industrial routers, and car telematics units, that is enough to take the whole device over. Researchers at the University of Birmingham and the security firm Fuzzware tested 26 phones and cellular modules for the capability, found it switched on in 9 of them, and used it to run their own code on a commercial EV charger. Six of the eight cellular modules they tested accepted the command. Only 3 of 18 phones did: the OPPO Find X5, the OPPO Reno 14 F 5G, and the ASUS Zenfone 9. No iPhone or Pixel was among them. The exposure is in machine-to-machine hardware. Five of the six were Quectel parts, three of them pulled from an EV charger, an industrial router, and a car's telematics control unit. Knowing the victim's number is not enough: every attack starts with a hostile card already in the slot, swapped by hand,...
AirDrop and Quick Share Flaws Let Nearby Attackers Trigger Crashes and Bypass Checks

AirDrop and Quick Share Flaws Let Nearby Attackers Trigger Crashes and Bypass Checks

Jun 30, 2026 Vulnerability / Wireless Security
Two researchers have found six security flaws in AirDrop and Quick Share , the wireless features that beam files between nearby devices with no cables or shared network. An attacker within wireless range, with just a laptop and no prior connection, can crash the sharing service on a Mac or iPhone set to receive from anyone, with no tap or prompt. The same research found Quick Share flaws that bypass Samsung's session checks and trigger a potentially exploitable crash in Google's Windows app. The two features run inside an ecosystem of more than five billion active Apple and Android devices, though the tested bugs hit specific implementations and versions. The work, laid out in a  new research paper  by Arash Ale Ebrahim and Nils Ole Tippenhauer of the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security, is the first to pull both stacks apart side by side, above the radio layer, where discovery becomes session handling, parsing, and trust decisions. The fixes have alre...
