Incapsula Updated Review — New Security Options, Improved Delivery and Reliability

Sep 06, 2017
It's been close to five years since we last looked at Incapsula , a security-focused CDN service known for its DDoS mitigation and web application security features. As one would expect, during these five years the company has expanded and improved, introducing lots of new features and even several new products. Most recently, Incapsula underwent an extensive network expansion that includes new PoPs in Asia including two new data centers in New Delhi and Mumbai. This seems like an excellent opportunity to revisit the service and see how it has evolved. Acquisition, Award and Growth Before we jump into Incapsula's service upgrades, we want to mention the changes in the company itself briefly. The most notable of those is Incapsula's 2014 acquisition by Imperva—an authority in web application security and a four-time Gartner Magic Quadrant leader for web application firewalls. The acquisition boosted Incapsula's security capabilities, resulting in its own cloud

Multiple Critical Remotely Exploitable Flaws Discovered in Memcached Caching System

Nov 02, 2016
Hey Webmasters, are you using Memcached to boost the performance of your website? Beware! It might be vulnerable to remote hackers. Three critical Remote Code Execution vulnerabilities have been reported in Memcached by security researcher Aleksandar Nikolich at Cisco Talos Group that expose major websites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, to hackers. Memcached is a fabulous piece of open-source distributed caching system that allows objects to be stored in memory. It has been designed to speed up dynamic web applications by reducing stress on the database that helps administrators to increase performance and scale web applications. Memcached is widely used by thousands upon thousands of websites, including popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, Github, and many more. Nikolich says that he discovered multiple integer overflow bugs in Memcached that could be exploited to remotely run arbitrary code on the targeted s

Timing is Everything: The Role of Just-in-Time Privileged Access in Security Evolution

To minimize the risk of privilege misuse, a trend in the privileged access management (PAM) solution market involves implementing just-in-time (JIT) privileged access. This approach to  privileged identity management  aims to mitigate the risks associated with prolonged high-level access by granting privileges temporarily and only when necessary, rather than providing users with continuous high-level privileges. By adopting this strategy, organizations can enhance security, minimize the window of opportunity for potential attackers and ensure that users access privileged resources only when necessary.  What is JIT and why is it important?   JIT privileged access provisioning  involves granting privileged access to users on a temporary basis, aligning with the concept of least privilege. This principle provides users with only the minimum level of access required to perform their tasks, and only for the amount of time required to do so. One of the key advantages of JIT provisioning
