Facebook releases 'Conceal' API for Android developers to Encrypt data on Disk

Many Smartphone applications support, installation or app data storage to an external SD Card, that can be helpful in saving space on the internal memory, but also vulnerable to hackers. Typically, an app that has permission to read and write data from an SD card has the permission to read all data on that card, including information written by other apps. This means that if you install a malicious application by mistake, it can easily steal any sensitive data from your Phone's SD Card. To prevent the data from being misused by any other app, the best implementation is to encrypt the data, but that will drop the performance of the device. On its 10th birthday, as a treat for mobile developers, Facebook has unveiled the source code of its Android security tool called ' Conceal ' cryptographic API Java library, that will allow app developers to encrypt data on disk in the most resource efficient way, with an easy-to-use programming interface. How is it possible to exploit SD Card, USB stick and other mobile devices for hacking? Another interesting hack was presented at the Chaos Computer Congress (30C3), in Hamburg, Germany. The researchers demonstrated how it is possible to hack the microcontroller inside every SD and MicroSD flash cards that allow arbitrary code execution and can be used to perform a man in the middle attack . The Hardware Hackers  Andrew “ bunnie ” Huang and Sean “xobs”  described the exploitation method on their blog post ," it also enables the possibility for hardware enthusiasts to gain access to a very cheap and ubiquitous source of microcontrollers. " It seems that to reduce SD cards price and increase their storage capability, engineers have to consider a form of internal entropy that could affect data integrity on every Flash drive. Almost every NAND flash memory is affected by defects and presents problems like electron leakage between adjacent cells. " Flash memory is really

Android's Firefox app Vulnerability allows hacker to steal files from SD card

Mobile Browsers are complicated applications and locking them down against threats is extremely difficult. According to a Mobile Security Researcher, Sebastián Guerrero from ' viaForensics' , Android's Firefox browser app is vulnerable to Hackers. He responsibly disclosed the details to Mozilla, that allows hackers to access both the contents of the SD card and the browser's private data. He posted a video showing how hackers will be able to access data on the device. The flaw works only if a user install  a malicious application or opened a locally stored HTML file in the vulnerable Firefox app that included malicious Javascript code. Successful Exploitation allows attacker to access to files on the SD Card including all of users’ cookies, login credentials, bookmarks etc. This is a privacy issue and could be severe depending on what is stored there, including personal pictures and video, or data placed there by other applications. Files are access
