ASUS Confirms Critical Flaw in AiCloud Routers; Users Urged to Update Firmware

ASUS has disclosed a critical security flaw impacting routers with AiCloud enabled that could permit remote attackers to perform unauthorized execution of functions on susceptible devices. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-2492 , has a CVSS score of 9.2 out of a maximum of 10.0. "An improper authentication control vulnerability exists in certain ASUS router firmware series," ASUS said in an advisory. "This vulnerability can be triggered by a crafted request, potentially leading to unauthorized execution of functions." The shortcoming has been addressed with firmware updates for the following branches - 3.0.0.4_382 3.0.0.4_386 3.0.0.4_388, and 3.0.0.6_102 For optimal protection, it's recommended to update their instances to the latest version of the firmware. Custom Backdoor Exploiting Magic Packet Vulnerability in Juniper Routers

Enterprise-grade Juniper Networks routers have become the target of a custom backdoor as part of a campaign dubbed J-magic . According to the Black Lotus Labs team at Lumen Technologies, the activity is so named for the fact that the backdoor continuously monitors for a "magic packet" sent by the threat actor in TCP traffic.  "J-magic campaign marks the rare occasion of malware designed specifically for Junos OS, which serves a similar market but relies on a different operating system, a variant of FreeBSD," the company said in a report shared with The Hacker News. Evidence gathered by the company shows that the earliest sample of the backdoor dates back to September 2023, with the activity ongoing between mid-2023 and mid-2024. Zyxel Patches Critical OS Command Injection Flaw in Access Points and Routers

Zyxel has released software updates to address a critical security flaw impacting certain access point (AP) and security router versions that could result in the execution of unauthorized commands. Tracked as CVE-2024-7261 (CVSS score: 9.8), the vulnerability has been described as a case of operating system (OS) command injection. "The improper neutralization of special elements in the parameter 'host' in the CGI program of some AP and security router versions could allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute OS commands by sending a crafted cookie to a vulnerable device," Zyxel said in an advisory. Chengchao Ai from the ROIS team of Fuzhou University has been credited with discovering and reporting the flaw.
