Three Flaws in Anthropic MCP Git Server Enable File Access and Code Execution

Three Flaws in Anthropic MCP Git Server Enable File Access and Code Execution

Jan 20, 2026 Vulnerability / Artificial Intelligence
A set of three security vulnerabilities has been disclosed in mcp-server-git , the official Git Model Context Protocol ( MCP ) server maintained by Anthropic, that could be exploited to read or delete arbitrary files and execute code under certain conditions. "These flaws can be exploited through prompt injection, meaning an attacker who can influence what an AI assistant reads (a malicious README, a poisoned issue description, a compromised webpage) can weaponize these vulnerabilities without any direct access to the victim's system," Cyata researcher Yarden Porat said in a report shared with The Hacker News. Mcp-server-git is a Python package and an MCP server that provides a set of built-in tools to read, search, and manipulate Git repositories programmatically via large language models (LLMs). The security issues, which have been addressed in versions 2025.9.25 and 2025.12.18 following responsible disclosure in June 2025, are listed below - CVE-2025-68143 (CV...
CISA Adds Three Exploited Vulnerabilities to KEV Catalog Affecting Citrix and Git

CISA Adds Three Exploited Vulnerabilities to KEV Catalog Affecting Citrix and Git

Aug 26, 2025 Vulnerability / Data Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Monday added three security flaws impacting Citrix Session Recording and Git to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog, based on evidence of active exploitation. The list of vulnerabilities is as follows - CVE-2024-8068 (CVSS score: 5.1) - An improper privilege management vulnerability in Citrix Session Recording that could allow for privilege escalation to NetworkService Account access when an attacker is an authenticated user in the same Windows Active Directory domain as the session recording server domain CVE-2024-8069 (CVSS score: 5.1) - A deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability in Citrix Session Recording that allows limited remote code execution with the privileges of a NetworkService Account access when an attacker is an authenticated user on the same intranet as the session recording server CVE-2025-48384 (CVSS score: 8.1) - A link following vulnerability in Git that arises as a ...
GitHub Desktop Vulnerability Risks Credential Leaks via Malicious Remote URLs

GitHub Desktop Vulnerability Risks Credential Leaks via Malicious Remote URLs

Jan 27, 2025 Vulnerability / Software Security
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been disclosed in GitHub Desktop as well as other Git-related projects that, if successfully exploited, could permit an attacker to gain unauthorized access to a user's Git credentials. "Git implements a protocol called Git Credential Protocol to retrieve credentials from the credential helper ," GMO Flatt Security researcher Ry0taK, who discovered the flaws, said in an analysis published Sunday. "Because of improper handling of messages, many projects were vulnerable to credential leakage in various ways." The list of identified vulnerabilities, dubbed Clone2Leak, is as follows - CVE-2025-23040 (CVSS score: 6.6) - Maliciously crafted remote URLs could lead to credential leaks in GitHub Desktop  CVE-2024-50338 (CVSS score: 7.4) - Carriage-return character in remote URL allows the malicious repository to leak credentials in Git Credential Manager CVE-2024-53263 (CVSS score: 8.5) - Git LFS permits retrieval of cre...

Git Users Urged to Update Software to Prevent Remote Code Execution Attacks

Git Users Urged to Update Software to Prevent Remote Code Execution Attacks

Jan 18, 2023 DevOpsSec / Software Security
The maintainers of the  Git  source code version control system have released updates to remediate two critical vulnerabilities that could be exploited by a malicious actor to achieve remote code execution. The flaws, tracked as  CVE-2022-23521  and  CVE-2022-41903 , impacts the following versions of Git: v2.30.6, v2.31.5, v2.32.4, v2.33.5, v2.34.5, v2.35.5, v2.36.3, v2.37.4, v2.38.2, and v2.39.0. Patched versions include v2.30.7, v2.31.6, v2.32.5, v2.33.6, v2.34.6, v2.35.6, v2.36.4, v2.37.5, v2.38.3, and v2.39.1. X41 D-Sec security researchers Markus Vervier and Eric Sesterhenn as well as GitLab's Joern Schneeweisz have been credited with reporting the bugs. "The most severe issue discovered allows an attacker to trigger a heap-based memory corruption during clone or pull operations, which might result in code execution," the German cybersecurity company  said  of CVE-2022-23521. CVE-2022-41903, also a critical vulnerability, is triggered during...
