SolarMarker Malware Evolves to Resist Takedown Attempts with Multi-Tiered Infrastructure

SolarMarker Malware Evolves to Resist Takedown Attempts with Multi-Tiered Infrastructure

May 21, 2024 Data Breach / Malware
The persistent threat actors behind the  SolarMarker  information-stealing malware have established a multi-tiered infrastructure to complicate law enforcement takedown efforts, new findings from Recorded Future show. "The core of SolarMarker's operations is its layered infrastructure, which consists of at least two clusters: a primary one for active operations and a secondary one likely used for testing new strategies or targeting specific regions or industries," the company  said  in a report published last week. "This separation enhances the malware's ability to adapt and respond to countermeasures, making it particularly difficult to eradicate." SolarMarker , known by the names Deimos, Jupyter Infostealer, Polazert, and Yellow Cockatoo, is a sophisticated threat that has  exhibited a continuous evolution  since its emergence in September 2020. It has the capability to steal data from several web browsers and cryptocurrency wallets, as well...
New Banking Trojan CHAVECLOAK Targets Brazilian Users via Phishing Tactics

New Banking Trojan CHAVECLOAK Targets Brazilian Users via Phishing Tactics

Mar 11, 2024 Phishing Attack / Mobile Security
Users in Brazil are the target of a new banking trojan known as  CHAVECLOAK  that's propagated via phishing emails bearing PDF attachments. "This intricate attack involves the PDF downloading a ZIP file and subsequently utilizing DLL side-loading techniques to execute the final malware," Fortinet FortiGuard Labs researcher Cara Lin  said . The attack chain involves the use of contract-themed DocuSign lures to trick users into opening PDF files containing a button to read and sign the documents. In reality, clicking the button leads to the retrieval of an installer file from a remote link that's shortened using the Goo.su URL shortening service. Present within the installer is an executable named "Lightshot.exe" that leverages DLL side-loading to load "Lightshot.dll," which is the CHAVECLOAK malware that facilitates the theft of sensitive information. This includes gathering system metadata and running checks to determine whether the compromis...
Product Walkthrough: Securing Microsoft Copilot with Reco

Product Walkthrough: Securing Microsoft Copilot with Reco

Apr 29, 2025Data Security / SaaS Security
Find out how Reco keeps Microsoft 365 Copilot safe by spotting risky prompts, protecting data, managing user access, and identifying threats - all while keeping productivity high. Microsoft 365 Copilot promises to boost productivity by turning natural language prompts into actions. Employees can generate reports, comb through data, or get instant answers just by asking Copilot.  However, alongside this convenience comes serious security concerns. Copilot operates across a company's SaaS apps (from SharePoint to Teams and beyond), which means a careless prompt or a compromised user account could expose troves of sensitive information.  Security experts warn that organizations shouldn't assume default settings will keep them safe. Without proactive controls, every file in your organization could be accessible via Copilot. A malicious actor might use Copilot to discover and exfiltrate confidential data without having to manually search through systems. With the right prom...

Experts Uncover Malware Attacks Targeting Corporate Networks in Latin America

Jul 08, 2021
Cybersecurity researchers on Thursday took the wraps off a new, ongoing espionage campaign targeting corporate networks in Spanish-speaking countries, specifically Venezuela, to spy on its victims. Dubbed " Bandidos " by ESET owing to the use of an upgraded variant of Bandook malware, the primary targets of the threat actor are corporate networks in the South American country spanning across manufacturing, construction, healthcare, software services, and retail sectors. Written in both Delphi and C++,  Bandook  has a history of being sold as a commercial remote access trojan (RAT) dating all the way back to 2005. Since then, numerous variants have emerged on the threat landscape and put to use in different surveillance campaigns in 2015 and 2017, allegedly by a cyber-mercenary group known as Dark Caracal on behalf of government interests in Kazakhstan and Lebanon. In a continuing resurgence of the Bandook Trojan, Check Point last year  disclosed  three new sampl...
