New Facebook Tool Let Users Transfer Their Photos and Videos to Google

Dec 02, 2019
Facebook has finally started implementing the open source data portability framework as the first phase of ' Data Transfer Project ,' an initiative the company launched last year in collaboration with Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Twitter. Facebook today announced a new feature that will allow its users to transfer their Facebook photos and videos to their Google Photos accounts—directly and securely without needing to download and reupload it. The feature is only available to Facebook users in Ireland for now, as a test, and expected to be available to the rest of the world in early 2020. Google launches 'Data Transfer Project' to make it easier to switch services

Jul 23, 2018
A lot of new online services are cropping up every day, making our life a lot easier. But it is always harder for users to switch to another product or service, which they think is better because the process usually involves downloading everything from one service and then re-uploading it all again to another. Thanks to GDPR—stands for General Data Protection Regulation, a legal regulation by European Union that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of users' personal information by companies—many online services have started providing tools that allow their users to download their data in just one click. But that doesn't completely simplify and streamline the process of securely transferring your data around services. To make this easier for users, four big tech companies— Google , Facebook , Microsoft , and Twitter —have teamed up to launch a new open-source, service-to-service data portability platform, called the Data Transfer Project . What is Dat...

Protecting Your Software Supply Chain: Assessing the Risks Before Deployment

Imagine you're considering a new car for your family. Before making a purchase, you evaluate its safety ratings, fuel efficiency, and reliability. You might even take it for a test drive to ensure it meets your needs. The same approach should be applied to software and hardware products before integrating them into an organization's environment. Just as you wouldn't buy a car without knowing its safety features, you shouldn't deploy software without understanding the risks it introduces. The Rising Threat of Supply Chain Attacks Cybercriminals have recognized that instead of attacking an organization head-on, they can infiltrate through the software supply chain—like slipping counterfeit parts into an assembly line. According to the 2024 Sonatype State of the Software Supply Chain report , attackers are infiltrating open-source ecosystems at an alarming rate, with over 512,847 malicious packages detected last year alone—a 156% increase from the previous year. Traditional sec...
