The Death of the Security Checkbox: BAS Is the Power Behind Real Defense

The Death of the Security Checkbox: BAS Is the Power Behind Real Defense

10月 30, 2025 Breach Simulation / AI Security
Security doesn't fail at the point of breach. It fails at the point of impact.  That line set the tone for this year's Picus Breach and Simulation (BAS) Summit , where researchers, practitioners, and CISOs all echoed the same theme: cyber defense is no longer about prediction. It's about proof. When a new exploit drops, scanners scour the internet in minutes. Once attackers gain a foothold, lateral movement often follows just as fast. If your controls haven't been tested against the exact techniques in play, you're not defending, you're hoping things don't go seriously pear-shaped. That's why pressure builds long before an incident report is written. The same hour an exploit hits Twitter, a boardroom wants answers. As one speaker put it, "You can't tell the board, 'I'll have an answer next week.' We have hours, not days." BAS has outgrown its compliance roots and become the daily voltage test of cybersecurity, the current you run through your stack to see what actuall...
ChatGPT Atlas Browser Can Be Tricked by Fake URLs into Executing Hidden Commands

ChatGPT Atlas Browser Can Be Tricked by Fake URLs into Executing Hidden Commands

10月 27, 2025 AI Security / Vulnerability
The newly released OpenAI ChatGPT Atlas web browser has been found to be susceptible to a prompt injection attack where its omnibox can be jailbroken by disguising a malicious prompt as a seemingly harmless URL to visit. "The omnibox (combined address/search bar) interprets input either as a URL to navigate to, or as a natural-language command to the agent," NeuralTrust said in a report published Friday. "We've identified a prompt injection technique that disguises malicious instructions to look like a URL, but that Atlas treats as high-trust 'user intent' text, enabling harmful actions." Last week, OpenAI launched Atlas as a web browser with built-in ChatGPT capabilities to assist users with web page summarization, inline text editing, and agentic functions. In the attack outlined by the artificial intelligence (AI) security company, an attacker can take advantage of the browser's lack of strict boundaries between trusted user input and untru...
Meta Rolls Out New Tools to Protect WhatsApp and Messenger Users from Scams

Meta Rolls Out New Tools to Protect WhatsApp and Messenger Users from Scams

10月 21, 2025 Cryptocurrency / Encryption
Meta on Tuesday said it's launching new tools to protect Messenger and WhatsApp users from potential scams. To that end, the company said it's introducing new warnings on WhatsApp when users attempt to share their screen with an unknown contact during a video call so as to prevent them from giving away sensitive information like bank details or verification codes. On Messenger, users can opt to enable a setting called "Scam detection" by navigating to Privacy & safety settings. Once it's turned on, users are alerted when they receive a potentially suspicious message from an unknown connection that may contain signs of a scam. "Because detection happens on your device, chats with end-to-end encryption stay secure," Meta said in a support document. "If you're notified that a chat may contain signs of a scam, we'll ask if you'd like to send recent messages you received to AI review. Messages that are shared with AI are no longer end-...

Red Hat OpenShift AI Flaw Exposes Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure to Full Takeover

10月 01, 2025 AI Security / Cloud Security
A severe security flaw has been disclosed in the Red Hat OpenShift AI service that could allow attackers to escalate privileges and take control of the complete infrastructure under certain conditions. OpenShift AI is a platform for managing the lifecycle of predictive and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) models at scale and across hybrid cloud environments. It also facilitates data acquisition and preparation, model training and fine-tuning, model serving and model monitoring, and hardware acceleration. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-10725 , carries a CVSS score of 9.9 out of a maximum of 10.0. It has been classified by Red Hat as "Important" and not "Critical" in severity owing to the need for a remote attacker to be authenticated in order to compromise the environment. "A low-privileged attacker with access to an authenticated account, for example, as a data scientist using a standard Jupyter notebook, can escalate their privileges to ...
Microsoft Expands Sentinel Into Agentic Security Platform With Unified Data Lake

Microsoft Expands Sentinel Into Agentic Security Platform With Unified Data Lake

9月 30, 2025 Artificial Intelligence / Threat Detection
Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled the expansion of its Sentinel Security Incidents and Event Management solution (SIEM) as a unified agentic platform with the general availability of the Sentinel data lake. In addition, the tech giant said it's also releasing a public preview of Sentinel Graph and Sentinel Model Context Protocol ( MCP ) server to turn telemetry into a security graph and allow AI agents access an organization's security context in a standardized manner. "With graph-based context, semantic access, and agentic orchestration, Sentinel gives defenders a single platform to ingest signals, correlate across domains, and empower AI agents built in Security Copilot, VS Code using GitHub Copilot, or other developer platforms," Vasu Jakkal, corporate vice president at Microsoft Security, said in a post shared with The Hacker News. Microsoft released Sentinel data lake in public preview earlier this July as a purpose-built, cloud-native tool to ingest, manage...
Crash Tests for Security: Why BAS Is Proof of Defense, Not Assumptions

Crash Tests for Security: Why BAS Is Proof of Defense, Not Assumptions

9月 26, 2025 Security Validation / Enterprise Security
Car makers don't trust blueprints. They smash prototypes into walls. Again and again. In controlled conditions. Because design specs don't prove survival. Crash tests do. They separate theory from reality. Cybersecurity is no different. Dashboards overflow with "critical" exposure alerts. Compliance reports tick every box.  But none of that proves what matters most to a CISO: The ransomware crew targeting your sector can't move laterally once inside. That a newly published exploit of a CVE won't bypass your defenses tomorrow morning. That sensitive data can't be siphoned through a stealthy exfiltration channel, exposing the business to fines, lawsuits, and reputational damage. That's why Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) matters.  BAS is the crash test for your security stack. It safely simulates real adversarial behaviors to prove which attacks your defenses can stop, and which would break through. It exposes those gaps before attackers exploit them or regulators d...

Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed two security flaws in Wondershare RepairIt that exposed private user data and potentially exposed the system to artificial intelligence (AI) model tampering and supply chain risks. The critical-rated vulnerabilities in question, discovered by Trend Micro, are listed below - CVE-2025-10643 (CVSS score: 9.1) - An authentication bypass vulnerability that exists within the permissions granted to a storage account token CVE-2025-10644 (CVSS score: 9.4) - An authentication bypass vulnerability that exists within the permissions granted to an SAS token Successful exploitation of the two flaws can allow an attacker to circumvent authentication protection on the system and launch a supply chain attack, ultimately resulting in the execution of arbitrary code on customers' endpoints. Trend Micro researchers Alfredo Oliveira and David Fiser said the AI-powered data repair and photo editing application "contradicted its privacy policy by...
How to Gain Control of AI Agents and Non-Human Identities

How to Gain Control of AI Agents and Non-Human Identities

9月 22, 2025 AI Security / Cloud Security
We hear this a lot: "We've got hundreds of service accounts and AI agents running in the background. We didn't create most of them. We don't know who owns them. How are we supposed to secure them?" Every enterprise today runs on more than users. Behind the scenes, thousands of non-human identities, from service accounts to API tokens to AI agents, access systems, move data, and execute tasks around the clock. They're not new. But they're multiplying fast. And most weren't built with security in mind. Traditional identity tools assume intent, context, and ownership. Non-human identities have none of those. They don't log in and out. They don't get offboarded. And with the rise of autonomous agents, they're beginning to make their own decisions, often with broad permissions and little oversight. It's already creating new blind spots. But we're only at the beginning. In this post, we'll look at how non-human identity risk is evolving, where most organizations are still exposed, and...
Rethinking AI Data Security: A Buyer's Guide

Rethinking AI Data Security: A Buyer's Guide

9月 17, 2025 AI Security / Shadow IT
Generative AI has gone from a curiosity to a cornerstone of enterprise productivity in just a few short years. From copilots embedded in office suites to dedicated large language model (LLM) platforms, employees now rely on these tools to code, analyze, draft, and decide. But for CISOs and security architects, the very speed of adoption has created a paradox: the more powerful the tools, the more porous the enterprise boundary becomes. And here's the counterintuitive part: the biggest risk isn't that employees are careless with prompts. It's that organizations are applying the wrong mental model when evaluating solutions, trying to retrofit legacy controls for a risk surface they were never designed to cover. A new guide ( download here ) tries to bridge that gap. The Hidden Challenge in Today's Vendor Landscape The AI data security market is already crowded. Every vendor, from traditional DLP to next-gen SSE platforms, is rebranding around "AI security." On paper, this seems to of...

RaccoonO365 Phishing Network Dismantled as Microsoft, Cloudflare Take Down 338 Domains

9月 17, 2025 Cybercrime / AI Security
Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit said it teamed up with Cloudflare to coordinate the seizure of 338 domains used by RaccoonO365 , a financially motivated threat group that was behind a phishing-as-a-service (Phaas) toolkit used to steal more than 5,000 Microsoft 365 credentials from 94 countries since July 2024. "Using a court order granted by the Southern District of New York, the DCU seized 338 websites associated with the popular service, disrupting the operation's technical infrastructure and cutting off criminals' access to victims," Steven Masada, assistant general counsel at DCU, said . "This case shows that cybercriminals don't need to be sophisticated to cause widespread harm – simple tools like RaccoonO365 make cybercrime accessible to virtually anyone, putting millions of users at risk." The initial phase of the Cloudflare takedown commenced on September 2, 2025, with additional actions occurring on September 3 and September 4. This in...
Securing the Agentic Era: Introducing Astrix's AI Agent Control Plane

Securing the Agentic Era: Introducing Astrix's AI Agent Control Plane

9月 16, 2025 AI Security / Enterprise Security
AI agents are rapidly becoming a core part of the enterprise, being embedded across enterprise workflows, operating with autonomy, and making decisions about which systems to access and how to use them. But as agents grow in power and autonomy, so do the risks and threats.  Recent studies show 80% of companies have already experienced unintended AI agent actions, from unauthorized system access to data leaks. These incidents aren't edge cases. They are the inevitable outcome of deploying AI agents at scale without purpose-built security mechanisms. Traditional IAM wasn't designed for this. Agents move too fast, operate 24/7, while relying on non-human identities (NHIs) to define precisely what they can and can't do. How can organizations possibly secure what they cannot see or control? To address this challenge, a new approach is needed—one that enables secure-by-design AI agent deployment across the enterprise. Enter: Astrix's Agent Control Plane (ACP) Astrix's AI Agent Cont...
Cursor AI Code Editor Flaw Enables Silent Code Execution via Malicious Repositories

Cursor AI Code Editor Flaw Enables Silent Code Execution via Malicious Repositories

9月 12, 2025 AI Security / Vulnerability
A security weakness has been disclosed in the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered code editor Cursor that could trigger code execution when a maliciously crafted repository is opened using the program. The issue stems from the fact that an out-of-the-box security setting is disabled by default, opening the door for attackers to run arbitrary code on users' computers with their privileges. "Cursor ships with Workspace Trust disabled by default, so VS Code-style tasks configured with runOptions.runOn: 'folderOpen' auto-execute the moment a developer browses a project," Oasis Security said in an analysis. "A malicious .vscode/tasks.json turns a casual 'open folder' into silent code execution in the user's context." Cursor is an AI-powered fork of Visual Studio Code, which supports a feature called Workspace Trust to allow developers to safely browse and edit code regardless of where it came from or who wrote it. With this option disab...

From MostereRAT to ClickFix: New Malware Campaigns Highlight Rising AI and Phishing Risks

9月 09, 2025 Windows Security / AI Security
Cybersecurity researchers have disclosed details of a phishing campaign that delivers a stealthy banking malware-turned-remote access trojan called MostereRAT . The phishing attack incorporates a number of advanced evasion techniques to gain complete control over compromised systems, siphon sensitive data, and extend its functionality by serving secondary plugins, Fortinet FortiGuard Labs said. "These include the use of an Easy Programming Language ( EPL ) to develop a staged payload, concealing malicious operations and disabling security tools to prevent alert triggers, securing command-and-control (C2) communications using mutual TLS (mTLS), supporting various methods for deploying additional payloads, and even installing popular remote access tools," Yurren Wan said . EPL is an obscure visual programming language that supports traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, English, and Japanese variants. It's chiefly meant for users who may not be proficient in English....
