Sony PlayStation Social Media Accounts Hacked; Claims PSN Database Breach

Aug 21, 2017
After hacking social media accounts of HBO and its widely watched show Game of Thrones , a notorious group of hackers calling itself OurMine took control over the official Twitter and Facebook accounts for Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) on Sunday. After taking over the accounts, OurMine, Saudi Arabian group of hackers which claims to be a "white hat" security firm, posted its first tweet on Sunday evening, claiming to have breached PlayStation Network and stolen its database. The tweet followed by a series of tweets encouraging the company to contact the hacking group through its website to buy its IT security service in an effort to protect itself from future cyber attacks. "PlayStation Network Databases leaked #OurMine," the first tweet by OurMine on the compromised PlayStation Twitter account read.  "No, we aren't going to share it, we are a security group if you work at PlayStation then please go to our website," the followed Twe

Making Sense of Operational Technology Attacks: The Past, Present, and Future

Mar 21, 2024Operational Technology / SCADA Security
When you read reports about cyber-attacks affecting operational technology (OT), it's easy to get caught up in the hype and assume every single one is sophisticated. But are OT environments all over the world really besieged by a constant barrage of complex cyber-attacks? Answering that would require breaking down the different types of OT cyber-attacks and then looking back on all the historical attacks to see how those types compare.  The Types of OT Cyber-Attacks Over the past few decades, there has been a growing awareness of the need for improved cybersecurity practices in IT's lesser-known counterpart, OT. In fact, the lines of what constitutes a cyber-attack on OT have never been well defined, and if anything, they have further blurred over time. Therefore, we'd like to begin this post with a discussion around the ways in which cyber-attacks can either target or just simply impact OT, and why it might be important for us to make the distinction going forward. Sony PlayStation Network hacked again, user passwords compromised ! With Sony's PlayStation Network freshly back online, attackers have once again breached the system, this time going for a vulnerability with the system's password reset. This is getting (more) ridiculous. Not even two days after Sony restored its embattled PlayStation Network for most users worldwide, cyber criminals have once again launched an attack, this time going after the PSN's password reset system. In order for users to reconnect to the PSN, they were required to reset their passwords. You know, for security reasons… News of this third, most recent attack were originally reported on Nyleveia.com, which warned PSN users that "accounts are still not safe." "I want to make this clear to ALL PSN users. Despite the methods currently employed to force a password change when you first reconnect to the PlayStation network, your accounts still remain unsafe," writes Nyleveia. "A new hack is currently doin

Sony has removed Linux capability of original PS3 and PS3 Slim. In their presentation, at the Chaos Communication Conference, the PS3 hacker team elaborately explained how they managed to hack the gaming device from Sony. The PlayStation 3 has been hacked before, originally with the PSJailbreak dongle and fail0verflow, but Sony managed to fight back with Firmware 3.60 which managed to ingeniously re-secure the console. But Hackers have released a custom firmware which allows compromised consoles to log into PSN, alongside LV0 decryption keys which allow the user to bypass future security updates. The hacker group ' The Three Musketeers ' claims that they already had the keys for a while but decided not to publish them. The information also came into the hands of another Chinese hacking group called BlueDiskCFW which was about to release the Iv0 keys for a fee.
