New cPanel Critical Flaw Could Let Hosting Customers Run SQL as Database Root

New cPanel Critical Flaw Could Let Hosting Customers Run SQL as Database Root

Aug 04, 2026 Vulnerability / Database Security
cPanel has patched a flaw that let an authenticated hosting customer execute SQL in the database's root context, crossing the privilege boundary between a cPanel account and the server's administrative database identity. It shipped in a targeted security release that closes two other routes past account boundaries. The database bug is tracked as CVE-2026-58048 (CVSS 4.0 score: 9.4) and affects all supported versions of cPanel & WHM, along with WP Squared. Reaching it requires a valid cPanel account and access to the MySQL/MariaDB feature. From there, the vendor says the account holder could execute arbitrary database commands with full administrative privileges. Depending on the operating system and database engine configuration, “this may extend to operating-system-level compromise.” cPanel patched CVE-2026-58048 in these builds: 11.110.0.137 11.118.0.71 11.126.0.78 11.134.0.48 11.136.0.32 138.1.6 for WP Squared Servers that cannot update immediately can ...
DOUBLECUP Uses ClickFix and Cached PNGs to Deliver CountLoader and DeviceManager RAT

DOUBLECUP Uses ClickFix and Cached PNGs to Deliver CountLoader and DeviceManager RAT

Aug 04, 2026 Social Engineering / Cybercrime
A new Russian loader-as-a-service (LaaS) codenamed DOUBLECUP has been using ClickFix lures as a way to stage malware-laced PNG images in victims' browser cache and ultimately deliver CountLoader and a previously undocumented remote access trojan called DeviceManager . "The first stage drops a steganographic PNG image into the browser's cache, retrieves its hidden content, and executes the second stage," SOCRadar said in a technical report. "This second stage decrypts the final payload in memory via a custom SHA-256 stream cipher in Counter (CTR) mode along with bitwise XOR using the victim's public IP address as the cryptographic key." Payloads delivered via the loader service include CountLoader , with variants for both Windows and macOS, and DeviceManager, which utilizes EtherHiding to resolve its command-and-control (C2) infrastructure and communicate with the server over HTTP or DNS tunneling. The service is assessed to be active since ea...
CISA Adds Exploited N-able N-central Flaw to KEV After Customer Compromises

CISA Adds Exploited N-able N-central Flaw to KEV After Customer Compromises

Aug 04, 2026 Vulnerability / Enterprise Security
The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Monday added a high-severity security flaw impacting N-able N-central to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities ( KEV ) catalog following reports of active exploitation in the wild. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-18577 (CVSS score: 8.2), is a case of incomplete patching for CVE-2026-18556 (CVSS score: 8.2) that allows authentication bypass and account takeover in susceptible versions of the software. The issue has been addressed in version 2026.3 HF1. "N-able N-central contains an authentication bypass using an alternate path or channel [that] allows for authentication bypass and account takeover in N-central," CISA said. Successful exploitation of the vulnerability can permit remote attackers to gain administrative access to vulnerable N-central servers and then abuse the built-in Take Control feature to pivot into managed endpoints and deploy persistence mechanisms. N-able has shared the fol...

18 Malicious npm Packages Deliver Cross-Platform RAT to Alibaba Tool Users

18 Malicious npm Packages Deliver Cross-Platform RAT to Alibaba Tool Users

Aug 03, 2026 Malware / Software Supply Chain
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a new set of malicious npm packages that target users of Alibaba developer tools with a cross-platform remote access trojan (RAT) as part of a sophisticated, targeted software supply chain attack targeting Chinese-speaking environments. One of the packages in question is " lib-mtop ," an unscoped package with the same name as a private Alibaba package under the "@ali" scope. Although the npm package was first published sometime in November 2023 with no functionality, three new versions (v1.0.1, v1.0.2, and v1.0.3) were uploaded earlier this March and April. It's currently not clear if this was the result of a maintainer account takeover or the project developer opting to go rogue. Regardless of how the malicious changes were pushed, the newly added changes feature a loader that's designed to fetch a remote JavaScript payload using curl and then execute it. The same maintainer account " ch4ce ," whic...
Google Password Manager Attacks Could Let Malware Hijack Passkey-Protected Accounts

Google Password Manager Attacks Could Let Malware Hijack Passkey-Protected Accounts

Aug 03, 2026 Authentication / Web Security
Malware running as an ordinary user on a Windows machine can sign into a victim's passkey-protected accounts without a fingerprint, a PIN, or anything at all appearing on the victim's screen. Unit 42 detailed three attack paths against Chrome's Google Password Manager cloud authenticator, which it calls Pass-ta-key , Silver Pass-ta-key and Golden Pass-ta-key ; the strongest targets the master key protecting the user's synced passkeys. None of this breaks the cryptography. The attacks go after the code around the passkey: how Chrome stores its device keys, how it re-enrolls a device after that state disappears, and whether the site you are signing into bothers to check that a human was verified at all. The attacks can silently obtain a valid authentication assertion, install an attacker-controlled user-verification key, or extract the 32-byte Security Domain Secret (SDS) used to decrypt synced passkey private keys. The researchers said the last two paths can p...
